and I still would. 2k18s soundtrack is just awful (for a wrestling game). I'm about to throw the dang game out the window if i hear One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" one more time.
I cant stop listening to this, I was about 8 or 9 when this was released. What made this game so special was the soundtrack. Once you heard this shit you wanted to play regardless.
That honeycomb background surging with electricity was so cool with this music...I played the newer games, and the UI is so...lifeless in comparison...

This game has a cool vibe to it, I know the graphics weren't the best but the vibe and the whole feel to this game was pretty awesome. Of course the roster was great too with Kane as my favorite to play as.
Underrated game in the series, in my opinion. It feels lackluster compared to SD2, but it has a charm to it, it has a great roster (when you unlock the extra wrestlers), and i prefer the slower gameplay compared to the previous entries.
This right here is what the wrestling games of old would hook you in with, like that next fix a junkie's after. It made the entire thing interesting, engaging and seam otherworldly on a otherwise limited console with tech restraints. Most games in today's world, can't even hold a candle to this game's (and many others of a similar variety) soundtrack. The effort now is all gone, everything looks samey/homogenous and developers are being f'd over by investors or crunch. Sad times we live in.
The first three Smackdown games were okay but the AESTHETIC. Ridiculous. It feels like I could be playing anything in this menu but I’m really about to watch my shitty CAW fight Steven Richards and hear Michael Cole and Taz say inane shit. Not one of those people who bashes every new game or whatever but there’s for real no style to them anymore.
Why did such a mediocre game like the early Smackdown games get such a great soundtrack, while great wrestling games like No Mercy always got generic shit?
+PixelReviver It might be because the N64 used cartridges, and so couldn't have decent CD-quality music (although you're right that they still could've reproduced better synthesised music via MIDI)
