A beautiful Spring day flat lining Rapala Shadow Raps for trout and salmon on the nearshore waters of Lake Ontario in our 15 ft. semi-v with 8 hp. tiller. We introduce numerous tactics for effectively targeting these big water fish out of a small boat.

Forgot to mention this in the video, but both the Coho and Steelhead were full of 4 - 5" Smelt. They were very close in size and color to the Shadow Raps I was using.

Love seeing videos of close to home. I have always wondered about taking my boat out there and doing just what you are doing. Maybe one of these days I will see you out there as I fish all year.

You can usually always get a fish or two inside 100 feet if you get a good day. I have some clamp on riggers I need to get set up on the duck boat.

I just want to say thank you for the response. I have one hand crank down rigger for my boat and a couple of dipsey divers. I can't wait to get out and hopefully hook into a salmon this year

Great vid - beautiful day too. Water is so calm which isn’t always the case out there!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed. Yeah I've fished plenty of crazy rough days out there, makes you appreciate the calm ones for sure.

Thanks! I've fished hundreds of days out there on 30 ft. charter style boats, but my favorite most memorable days are all out of the small boat. Just have to watch that weather a little more closely.

Yeah learned that the hard way. ....Put in at Olcott and ended up in Wilson...I pay close attention to wind/wave reports nowadays. ... Really looking forward to spring.....

Well done my friend. Looks like a lot of fun fishing out there in peace and quiet without a lot of boat traffic around you. I love fishing for salmon as well, mostly in the fall out of my small pontoon boat. Can’t wait for them to start coming in. Big 👍 from me brother.

Awesome Video man, Oak Oarchard is my home port, I grew up just up from the Black North Bar. I think I was out there the same day you were, only later in the after noon. If you're interested, maybe we could meet up in the spring, and do some fishing. I've got a 17 foot Tracker set up for trolling. I love how you fish out of your duck boat, that shows that it doesn't take a lot of money to go out and do that kind of fishing. .. Tight lines :)

That looks like a lot of fun, not having a flasher and a ton of other gear between you and the fish, and being able to stop and fight. One thing I don't really like about the charter boats is that they don't stop, so you have to work just to crank the fish to the boat.

I agree 100%. I'm working on a new video now back out trolling in the duck boat. Should be done soon.

I always wonder how much 16 foot Sylvan would Do on a big Lake for trolling since I live on Lake Michigan

Lake Michigan is great. I used to fish out of Ludington and St. Joseph. You can troll with a 16 footer no problem, just have to pick the good weather days.

It’s definitely been running through my mind since I bought the boat last month man Was nervous but I felt like just how you say it if I take a good day with no choppy waves I’ll be OK, I was ready for icefishing but now I’m ready for summer

Get some small handcrank or electric downriggers and set them up on the back corners. Get a couple rod holders on the gunnels up around the middle of the boat for flat lines or dipsy divers and boom, you're ready to roll.

I have fished out of sodus past 3 yrs but have been beaten to hell by ruthless wind. I am looking at the rochester orchard area since it seems to be more upfront lake access instead of that monster bay travel to access the lake. Do you see any difference in the wave sizes near rochester to oak?

No, not really. I fish both areas quite a bit. You just have to watch the wind forecast and pick your days. Plenty of days though, especially in the summer, when it's easily fishable in the small boat. One advantage to being further west is the depth drops off more quickly so you don't have to run as far to get deep.

Really like your video, but can’t believe any would consume anything from Lake Ontario. Not trying to preach and each to there own, but arnt you concerned about the pollutants that are in those fish?

alternative3d . I’d sooner eat a salmon I caught from Lake O than any fish from a grocery store. Salmon only live for 3-4 years. Pick and choose the fish you harvest . I stay away from large rainbow and won’t touch a lake trout. It’s like anything, a little bit okay, too much no good.
