This is a 100% truth. I was visiting my mom a few weeks back. Took her guitar out to her patio and gave a 6 minute guitar lesson with lots of value for the viewer. Shot it on my ipad, zero editing, YT chose the thumbnail and the video is close to 130K views and still going. Authenticity and value are the most important things you can do. Keep going everyone!
Great video, I think that for small channels the most important thing is to get good presence from the beginning. Otherwise, you are going to be far behind everyone else, and eventually quit. Even though I am not beginner anymore, I know how hard it could be (and if I haven't used a lot of Famester, I would have quit a long time ago). It made everything much more easier, especially getting over subs and views requirements to get monetized.
Good point on creating a video that is very "Raw", I don't like videos with a bunch of editing tricks and fancy effects, I like to see a video that actually teaches me something. My videos are very raw, I do videos with my phone, nothing else, nothing fancy. Pure raw footage so people can have a personal connection. We are still a small channel but steadily growing. Thank you Sean for the great advise.
@@ryanburgess I cannot stand these RU-vidr gurus preaching about providing value while their videos are all about click baity headlines and rehashed old crap in their content.
@@UneditedCoDGameplays if you want no-fluff and only practical stuffs that you can actually execute, you should check out The AI Guy. I basically build my faceless channel using his guidance freely available on his RU-vid channel.
I tend to overthink the cuts, music and transitions to the point sometimes I forget to remember what value I give to the viewer. Thank you so much for reminding me 🙏🏼
Been at this craft for 8 years and still struggling. I think there is some validity to what Sean says since my newer videos which are very polished have less retention than my older more raw videos. Food for thought.
Good to hear you resonate with some of this. Yeah its one of the biggest things I learned in my journey that had the biggest impact for growing my channel. Keep at it, awesome you have been going for so long.
@@BodyBoostRevolution I think it's also the fact that RU-vid is much more saturated with videos today than say 10 years ago and subscribers don't matter anymore. You're competing for the same number of viewership but with way more supply. The algorithm is going to favour a video for any given viewer for the highest reward and that can be from a small or big creator.
@@RileySerola Agreed! So many creators say it doesn't matter and that there is room for everyone, but the ones that started 10-13 years ago who were committed to posting absolutely made bank. Millions of subs and are making millions of dollars. Channels from the last few years don't get even a fraction of subs and views
Great video man! I will take these tips to practice! I finally had the courage to upload my first ever video and regardless of the statistics, I am proud of the work I put into it and the result. There is more to come and pls everyone don't give up!
I just started my channel 4 days ago and only have 3 subscribers but I KNOW I will get to my goal in the near future. Will keep finding ways to improve and hope every small channel gets to their goal! 🙌🏽
This video is so inspiring! The idea of focusing on delivering real value rather than flashy edits really clicked with me. Thanks for sharing your journey and insights! 🙌
Thank you for reiterating this core concept which sometimes gets overlooked as a creator.. it’s always about how much value the video provides to the viewer ❤
Just make videos. You will get better as you continue to make them. I have two channels and anyone will tell you that your first 50 plus videos will be terrible. That’s okay. Like I said, you will get better. At some point, hire a editor.
Same! 2 weeks ago this weekend. You already have 87 subs though, that's awesome! I have 21 very few views. 87 seems like an impossible number for me right now
100% agree! Thank you Sean! Im not a techy guy and your channel greatly help me in making vids.. 🥳 But for me.. it was never for the monetization of the channel.. not saying it is not something i dont want.. but more like secondary.. ultimately.. i just enjoy having my camera with me and immortalizing my life stories.. i dont have any siblings.. somehow youtube gave me an outlet and a place for me to go back in time when the day comes that i can no longer walk or do what i love.
Straight facts here! My best performing videos are the ones that are the least produced, most raw that get to the point quickly. They are also unscripted and feel more natural like a conversation. Even a stupid video that took 5 minutes to film that I just posted about the DJI Mic 2 firmware is outperforming way more polished videos. From now own - I'm just going to keep asking myself in the edit - IS THIS ADDING VALUE?!!! Great video as always Sean!
Very wise words. tHanks. My videos offer nothing, the last year or more I've been trying to better the edits so that my disasterpieces are at the very least, easier to digest.
Hahaha yeah its a tricky one. Unfortunately I feel too many people go that way and think things like better editing will make better videos. Build value first, then everything else to make them more pleasing to watch, that would be my approach at least.
@@seankitching Sage advice. I've been thinking and really draw a blank on how to find value in any of my videos. The thought process is I spot something I want to share or point out, but these are common and bland experiences. I'll put my value thinking cap on and try again.
This is very sound advice. Thank you, Sean! Just cutting out scenes is a very simple editing procedure. I'm going to try this on my next video. Cheers!
Thank you for this insightful and relevant information. I haven't been on RU-vid for that long but I was spending a lot of time on creating and editing videos. I thought to myself people are not even watching these videos. I really appreciate the advice for small channels. I won't give up.
Hang in there, be consistent, provide quality content that you can be proud of and most importantly give people a chance to find you and appreciate your work. Best of luck to everyone, old channels and new alike, "Seriously" 😁😸
That is definitely true Sean 👍🏻 but I continue to make videos and films just for myself. Of course, I often send them to festivals and am happy when they are successful. And of course I'm happy about new subscribers, but ultimately I'm just interested in presenting my passion for filming to a larger audience 😅
I started an Original music channel a year ago and although it's a pretty tough space with a lot of competition , it's been a great experience . Always looking for ways to improve . Good vid Thanks CAMCURSE
I felt the pressure to put out awesome videos that people would like. And recently I reminded myself why I created my channel in the first place. Now I film for myself but I try to get better for my viewers. So I think it might depend on what your niche is.
The pressure can be so real hey. Yeah interesting to see it from that perspective as well.. I still think if growing an audience is a goal (totally fine if its not though) making sure you know what the value you are bringing will be one of the biggest helps.
I'm just starting to create content for my channel. Just keeping it simple right now little to no editing. Just a few videos of me painting at work but I love it and want to share that with people. Also passionate about music, AI, and obviously making content on RU-vid! I'll be doing a vlog kinda style document once a week talking about my journey! Thanks for the video 📸😜
I believe it. Last couple of videos I tried to make them pretty polished. As polished as my current skills will let me anyway. They didn't do so hot. My next to last video, I kinda just put it together without as much editing. Made a useful item for the public. In 10 days, its gotten over 10,000 views. Thats major for me.
@@HUMAN01Lofty Guess RU-vid disapproves of my reply. Twice it got deleted. I guess maybe because I mentioned my channel name. I was just addressing that this isn't my channel. It's just an account
Thank you so much. We make different videos styles but everything that you have said here has helped me greatly. I can’t wait to implement the things I learned today.
It can be discouraging! 2 weeks here and only 21 subs. Needing 1000 subs and 4000h of watch time seems like climbing Mt Everest would be an easier mission lol
I got monetized finally by doing this method, funny enough I made a video about this very concept. It’s true though. I work and manage a large brand’s RU-vid… and we’ve learned that people don’t care about crazy retention editing. PEOPLE JUST WANT THE REAL. Thanks for this, great channel dude! Hope to be where you are someday!
I’d love your take on this: one of my first videos was an over-researched, over-written, over-produced deep dive that took me 2 weeks to make. And the problem is, it did really well!! Which made me think I have to do this every time… IMPOSSIBLE. So I’m stuck. I’d rather learn the ‘quick & dirty’ style but I have no idea how to find that part of myself.
I ran from 125 subs to over 2k in the past two weeks, reached 100k views today, and never shown my face. Lol😂 Craziest part? This is my 6th channel ✌️✅
Good for you! Mine is at a sad 21 subs. 2 weeks, regular posting. I feel like it'll never take off, but it's only been 2 weeks so I hope that it does. Mine is faceless and my only channel.
I honestly don't know how I feel about this.... my early content, not even my best friend wanted to leave comments on them. I was told my cinematics needed to be improved. However, I'm gonna try not to over edit and take the advice within this video and see what happens. It's funny though because I've been feeling exactly what this video is targeting, lol
manifesting being monetized! i am finding hard to make my tutorials engaging for the viewers and to be catchy that they would click on it at first place. hope to learn more from you!
Hi Sean, thank you for your sharing your knowledge with us I wish all the best to all hard working RU-vid Creators Do not give up. You will succeed ❤❤❤
I just launched my channel to promote my website which trains small landlords on all the things that we teach our leasing agents at the large, national Property Management organizations. Most of my videos (granted it’s only been a week now) haven’t gotten any exposure. However, one of my videos miraculously got nearly 40 views in less than 24 hours. Being a rookie at this, and just winging it…. I’m not sure what I did when publishing that one that caused this spike in exposure. I checked and all my settings are setup the same way. So I couldn’t tell you what the heck I did. I feel like I closed my eyes and took a shot towards the hoop and made it… don’t ask me to do it again 🤔🤷♂️😂or what i did. Now, with that said, if anyone reading this is a “Real Estate/MultiFamily Investor “ looking to grow your channel…. Maybe we can do a podcast or a YT video together. My years of working at the large national and statewide Property Management organizations could help train some of your viewers and would make for great content.
Wow 40 views! I can't even imagine hahaha. Looks like we both started around the same time, 2 weeks ago. I've heard it can take 4 - 6 weeks for the algorithm to pick up new channels and push them out. I am hoping for an increase soon. Good luck!!!
Ugh my channel is just 2 weeks old and it get a few views, but not many. I create short, informative videos containing info that has helped me on a personal level. I hope my channel grows! I don't know how long it takes the algorithm to pick up a new channel. I don't like flashy, crazy editing, especially with my channel being healthcare based. I don't want to confuse viewers. I want to help people, not confuse them!
I go for the masterpiece. I create to create. If I only make content for the viewer, I'll get burned out just like all those other creators. I want to have fun creating. Sorry, I'm not in this for the money, I'm in this for the creating.
@@BodyBoostRevolution still fighting to get to 1,000. With the constant changing I gotta find my audience which is a challenge cuz I’m a Christian channel
@@NickNomikos24 it seems like a tough time on youtube, so many channels these days to compete with. Mine is health related, which I've heard is a very popular niche and I work in, and am super passionate about health. After 2 weeks, 21 subs and very few views. But we'll keep at it! I'm sure we'll both find out audience :)
This all makes sense, I wonder how to apply something like that on a channel that is in the entertainment niche. It looks like that I have gone the dumbest route possible, trying to provide pleasant cinematic value and create those videos trying to be beautiful melancholic and just enjoyable to look at. meaning that would be the value for a person looking for such experience. But it just looks like that YT is another tiktok where you have to do something absolutely out of hand crazy in order to put some eyeballs on your content, since the competition is so large and almost anyone now is a "content creator" whether its a person who spends hundreds of dollars in order to produce the content and the person who is recording on the way.
great info as always Sean cheers. I have a mix of content on my wee channel, mostly it';s me out in the field shooting photography, I find these videos generally flop, I also have educational style vids featuring a particular camera or technique these often do far better. It took me over 6 years to 1000 subs, and only 18 months to add a further 1600. I'll take your advice and un with it, more education less me being a dick with a camera taking pretty pictures. Cheers mate appreciate it.
The video is just shy of 8 minutes long, if you don't want to watch it, the one simple change is to provide value, thank me later and no i do not wear a cape
