Small Creek Tenkara Fishing For Colorado’s Greenback Cutthroat Trout

1st week of July, 2024. What an incredible day targetting Colorado’s native greenback cutthroat trout in a small creek up in the mountains. I was afraid that the flows may still be too high, however the water was amazing, and so was the fishing! I almost lost my phone, glasses, and fly box, so things could’ve been not so pretty:)
Setup & Gear:
Rod: DRAGONTail Mizuchi (dragontailtenk...)
Line - 8 ft level line
Dry Dropper Setup:
5x nylon - Hi Vis Parachute (size 12) - 6x fluoro - Pergidon (size 14)
Nymph Setup
5x fuoro - Jig Nymph (sizes 12 abd 14)

Thanks! Ya, that’s the one downside of this creek, but it can be an advantage when you want to check the flows without getting too far off the beaten path:)

Great video, the stream looks calm, peaceful, and just plain pretty. Don’t name this stream as it will become overrun with fisherman.

I rarely see people fish this section of this creek; I'm glad to see you explored it and caught some nice fish. Have you fished under the pedestrian bridge further upstream?

I don’t think I got to a bridge. Whatever you see in the video is the farthest I’ve gone. When I have more time, I’d like to explore farther upstream. It’s such a pretty stretch!

Too bad they have been stalking the wrong strain that was actually hybridized greenback so really there's not very many real greenbacks in Colorado do you want to know the truth it's only been about 2 or 3 years since they started even breeding the true strain

Ya, I’ve heard that. It’s hard to tell if any of the ones I caught were pure, probably not . I can’t tell the difference. As far as I know they are visually the same. They are still beautiful greenbacks only found in Colorado:)
