Small Fry - Glass Minnow - Small transparent baitfish pattern

This pattern is one I tie to mimic small fry. Occasionally fish will be feeding exclusively on these small fish. When they do that, you need to get a good fry imitation out there. I tied this to be very realistic and mimic the small fry perfectly.

For the life of me, being very open minded. I can not in any way see how anyone would give this ty a thumbs down ! ??? It's not overly complicated ( an I am a beginner tying at 63), materials are popular, tying procedure is right on and the finished fly is one I will definatly do because it's well worth having in your box !! IMHO

If I had to guess I'd say it's all the flash... it's a 50/50 battle for people in my neck-o-the-woods on either a lot of flash or little to no flash... I'm impartial but people can be really ritualistic about this kind of stuff

Nice looking fry. I wish there were a transparent EP fiber. It lasts longer than Ice dub. No fly lasts forever, so this is a great looking little fry. All the best, Sean

+Sean Mooney I have a transparent-ish type version of EP fiber. Well its not EP, its something else that I sell. The problem is with EP, or even the "super fiber" I sell is that it doesn't move in the water the same way (on smaller baits like this), and its not as flashy. But the stuff I sell is super durable, and most of the colors are see though (there are a few that are not). I actually use these fibers to make something close to a surf candy, and it is very clear with hints of color. Nice thing is that I have 40 colors to choose from with that, so I can make a huge variety of baits. Yes, Ice dub does get destroyed after a few fish, however this is a fairly easy fly to tie, so you can bring 10+ with you. If fish destroy all 10 in one fishing trip, then you had a great trip! HAHA

Hy, Im fom Chile and I think your. Jocb is awesome. I been watching many of your videos and I have the material to the flies, but what I dont have is that kind of epoxy glues just normal head cement and super glue...It is posible to tye them whit the normal epoxyes like clear poxipol by example???? Please if you read this try to help me about it. Thanks!!!

I dont know what clear poxipol is, but im sure most epoxy will work. Super glue as well, or even 5 minute epoxy for this specific fly would work great as well. Just they tend to be a little tougher to work with you know?

I must have the wrong kind of ice dubbing. the fibers of mine are way too short to form a body even on a size 10 hook, and they all just fall out.

Mc. Fly Lures I ended up ordering a bunch of dubbing material from the fly tyers dungeon. I think mine is better suited for dry flies or small nymphs.

+Brody Burnham No your right, it does flair out a little more in the water, I didnt have a lot of time in the video to explain that... If you want it too look exact, just epoxy a bit further up the hook. But that almost becomes the same as a gummy minnow in a way. I like that the fibers can flow a bit in the water, will attract more fish in my opinion and experience. It does look really good though being epoxied up the hook, and adding a bit of flashabou lateral scale for the lateral line, almost like a surf candy if you have ever seen those? However, I like the movement of having the fibers flow a bit more.

A 1/0 is redundant for that fly. A #2 is plenty big enough and even a #4 or 6 for smaller flies. Nice tie tho!

+Ted Haas not sure if you meant "redundant"... but I understand what your trying to say. I mean, yes if you are fishing for smaller fish, then a smaller hook is important. But some larger fish do still eat small bait occasionally and having a larger hook like this helps to keep them pinned. I tied this specifically for bass actually. And some largemouth bass need to be drug out of the weeds, the larger hook helps keep it from ripping out. That's the intention. Buy by all means, tie it in a smaller hook if you don't need to do what I tied it for. I've tied it really small, for trout and what not.
