Today we are making a small parts vise that I will be using to make some wooden gears for a clock. I got this idea from Clickspring and have wanted to make one for a long time.

Don't hit the lens is good solid advise hehehe. This reminds me a lot of a stitching pony. Thanks for sharing. Good stuff my friend. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a blessed week. Dale.

Lol always good advice when working with an expensive camera. there are a lot of other vices that use very similar principles from stitching ponies to saw vices and some of them really get interesting with different shaped heads for specific purposes. It's such a simple thing but yet so versatile.

I built one right after watching Chris on Click Spring build his. I love how it works. My bench has no vice but instead I use elongated bench dog holes that are offset from each other. So the idea of using it in a vice is out. I simply made a wooden caller to go on the leg of the bench. I use this for a number of different operations. It is a very useful addition to any shop.

Man I got to say I get a huge grin on my face whenever I see you use the marking knife. Really cool vice.

LOL I love that thing. I have had 6+ companies try to get me to use their knife but nothing is as good!

How clever is that! Simple solutions nearly always the best - it's one of those things I think I've seen before long ago but somehow doubt I have - all of my stuff involves CAD, complicated geometry and never quite works as intended, love this.

This is excellent. I too enjoy the precision-work of Clickspring. You might even want to make a dedicated rectangular hole in your bench for this vise (or several "lined up" holes for several vises for clamping long work-pieces). I'll definitely be making one of these vises.
@WoodByWright
@WoodByWright 4 года назад
Thanks. The benefit of puting it in the vice is I can adjust it's hight. If I make a dedicated hole then the high will change depending on the thickness of what I. Working on.
@68HC060
@68HC060 4 года назад
Yes, true. :) Thinking a little more about it, an oversized dedicated hole could be used in combination with a standard clamp if one does not have a vise or if the main vise is 'busy'. I definitely see lots of possibilities with this easy and low-cost vise. One can easily make a miniature variant for very small work-pieces (like holding a PCB while soldering). Hey, adding just a nut and a bolt, it becomes a clamp or "self contained vise".

This is a good idea. Not seen something like this before. Nice and easy to make and is clearly effective. As ever, thanks for the information. A wooden clock; sounds like a great project. Looking forward to learning more about that. Best wishes

I used to hate the idea of super glue until I actually tested it. And in the right conditions and in the right method of attachment it is incredibly strong and even beat out most tight bond glues in several applications.
