If there's a more versatile implement for the tractor, I sure don't know what it is. This PTO-driven skidding winch sure turns my tractor into one handy piece of equipment in the woods. Today I use the winch to help me take down and skid out 3 large red pines for use on my up-and-coming sawmill shed build. Watch how the winch is used as a safe-guard to prevent the tree from falling in the wrong direction even when it's got a heavy lean.

The size of those trees are more like the yellow pines around here. Ought to be interesting watching you getting them on the mill and cut. Good vid. Thanks.

You could try and make an adjustable height saw horse ,to help with cutting the 36 foot length trees and these use later, if ever you need to saw over length logs in the future
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy Час назад
That would be a great idea! Having the adjustability sure would make it more useful than the ones I've got.

You definitely made a mess in the woods, that beam is going to be a challenge, with every aspect.

Hey Sandy, I built an equipment shed 36’ long as well but cut my logs to fit on my mill (woodmizer lt35). If I was going to do it over I think I would get a rip chain for my chainsaw and use an Alaska chainsaw mill. if all you want is two flat sides. Anyways stay safe and don’t be shy to ask for help putting those bad boys up. Cheers

Hey Denis! I do like the chainsaw mills. I had one before the Woodland Mills I've got. Just take a bit to setup but still nice in this situation for sure

If that "scat" tastes like berries, it could be a small bear.

When u are ready to set the beams rent a sky trac will make setting a lot simpler
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy Час назад
That would be real handy. My only concern would be I don't know if I could drive it on the hills and terrain to get back to the red pine forest
@paulmarshall4794
@paulmarshall4794 Час назад
You could always run a cable between the trees and use it to set up some pulleys to use to lift the log into place. That is if you have a long enough cable. 3 or 4 pulleys set up at different lengths along the log to stabilize it at both ends as well as in the middle area should do the trick. A little more manual labour but not too much.

There's an idea I didn't think about. Thanks for sharing that one Paul!

take off that last log bunk, youll be able to rotate the long log with the extra width of the uncut portion of the log! Worked great for me! i might have mentioned it before tho haha sry

SO... that'll be a full length beam? I though you were splitting it in half. That's a lot of weight to lift onto the posts. I know you can do it, Sandy. I'll have to figure out how, but I have confidence that you can do it. You might want to set some supports for the posts so they don't rack on you with all that weight on top. Good luck... I'm anxious to see how you handle this....

Hello Sandy. Imagine being able to cut beams that long for someone else. How many beams would it take to pay for the needed extensions to add to your sawmill? The tractor sounded as if it could have pulled all three logs of the forest until you got to the turn. I know you have a plan. Have good days!
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy Час назад
Good question. I'm maxed out for sawmill length on the trailer right now but on the ground the sky is the limit. I"m not sure what someone would pay for a long beam like that. Could pay for it self in a hurry though with the right customers
@2010joshh1
@2010joshh1 41 минуту назад
Going to be a good looking beam . What are you shooting for 6×6? 8×6?
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 15 минут назад
I'm not too sure Josh. Think I"m aiming for as big as I can make it to start
@MikeZettek

Nice work. Limbing criss-cross trees isn't good. Fell a tree, then limb it, then fell the next tree. I hope you can square the trees on your mill so that the beams are strong, but not as heavy. Good luck with that!

possibly??? bit very old fashion to lift beams but need block and tackle and heavy pole to attack to plus couple stabilizers put one end against some solid tractor blade or stump or even plant a short post temporary for support from sliding out put so high end over where want to set the beam then with block and tackle raise beam into place this essentially how we would raise our beef and pigs when butchering before having tractor with front end bucket/forklift
