I live with my husband and children in a very small home, so there’s no room for sewing in the house. But fortunately there’s room in front of where my husband parks his motorbike in the shed. I get very cold in winter, and I boil in summer as I make my quilts.... but despite the discomfort, I love every moment lol. One day I hope to have a sewing room as pretty, relaxing and functional as yours!

I understand that by US standards this room is considered small, as oftentimes people have basements they can use, however by UK standards that room was still a good size. Thanks for sharing your hints and tips. Storage is key and those bookcases look great - not sure I’d manage that level of gorgeousness so well done there too. It would have been great if we could have seen the other end of the room to get a true idea of the space you have and if you had any additional storage/design wall etc on the wall facing you. Thanks. Happy New Year!

I haven’t read all the comments so perhaps someone else has already touched on what I am about to say. You have most of your fabrics in the open subject to the light from your window. You need to be conscious of fading. If your window is treated, you don’t need to worry; but if not, perhaps you might want to acquire some sun film at the hardware store. I suggest this from my own personal experience.

Thanks for sharing this. Many of us do not have a whole room for sewing but this gives us all ideas for whatever space we do have. I hope that one day I will have a room for my crafting and that it is as well organised and pretty as yours.

I have a very small room 7x10. My house is about 135 years old, my room is upstairs but my only problem is that the ceiling is about 7 ft high and is slanted due to the roof line. I do have one window that is large for the room. I think I’ve done a great job utilizing the space using IKEA furniture. I only have one straight wall floor to ceiling that’s 7 ft long, then there’s a doorway. The chimney build out also comes up on another wall. No matter, I really love my room and it’s very organized. I have Juki’s also TL2200 QVP and a J-150 QVP ( just fits, my room is like a puzzle). I sew so much faster with the J-150, I also FMQ on it.

Hi Chelsi, I've been watching a lot of your Mom's videos and I must say you have done a superb with your room. I'm particularly fond of your antique desk cutting table. I have one similar to it. It's a solid oak executive desk made in the 1940's. I recently got a 36" by 56" cutting mat to cover and protect the desk top as that's where I do my sewing. The drawer space I have is incredible. I also have those plastic bins from Walmart to store my fat quarters in. Take care and thanks for sharing your room!

Great space. Our quild had a cutting pressing table that gave many a terrible back ache. How I love sales. A set(3sizes) of bed risers were in the clearance bin. I bought several and gave my friends relief from back strain. Yes, we set up our pressing board and cutting areas every week. My mother-in-law used her dining room table to sew on and took all her supplies down when she served supper. We sure are fortunate to have special spaces no matter how sparce they may be. Keep us in stitches. Looking forward to seeing more on your usage of scraps.

Lovely space. I don’t know how you do all that you do without a design wall. It was a game changer for me. I have seen sewing studios where something can be dropped down in front of the shelves. Sort of like a shade. Your husband sounds like he could work that out for you! I think you would love having one. You are proof that an elaborate space is not necessary for success. Billy bookcases are the best! Good luck in all you do.

Charming room! As some mentioned I think this isn’t a small room (relatively a good size in fact) outside of the US lol 😅 haha. But thanks for sharing because I could relate to your presentation more as I’m much closer to your age than your mom though I love both of your videos! 😊 I loved that you used cheaper options but still look quite nice! 💕 I could never tell the shelves were from IKEA (they look much sturdier than the out of box Billy series!). The cutting station desk would look even more beautiful if you stained white or even painted white (milk paint maybe) with distressed look to match your sewing desk and storage space! Or blue or green stain may add a pop of color! Thanks for the inspiration! ❤

Thanks for the tour. Love it! It’s funny because I was looking at the billy bookcases the other day. My sewing room is in a large loft so lots of slanted walls (and very high ceilings) However I still may get some of them and ask my husband to build them in. He’s very handy like yours. Also I have my sewing machine on a vanity too! My husband bought a folding adjustable craft table from Joann’s for me for Christmas, to cut out projects and do the larger quilts. My current desk /work table is too low to cut projects out. It kills my back. I can’t wait to set it up. Thanks again for the inspiration and MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎅🏼

What a lovely, well organised, large sewing area. I work at my kitchen table as we have no extra rooms in my house. I have to lug everything out and put it away every time I sew which means I waste about 20 minutes of precious sewing time. I dream of having my own crafting room one day. I doubt it will look as beautiful as yours though!

Small table... but how do you quilt your quilts? I seem to need a large table just to quilt a lap size/twin size quilt.

Hi Mary! This is a great observation! While piecing larger quilts together (sewing rows and then rows together) I will often move my machine to my larger project table! This helps relieve any extra tension from sewing together the last stages of a larger quilt top 💕

Hi Chelsi. Thank you for sharing your sewing room with us. I have to ask. How do you put together your quilts when you get to the point when you are adding several rows of blocks together and then the borders when your machine is so close to the wall. Do you have a special trick? Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!

Hi Lois! That us a wonderful question! For a larger quilt I move my sewing machine to my project table! This reduces the tension on the quilt rows while putting them together as well as the overall quilt top ❤ I even do this when adding binding after getting the quilt back from the quilter! It's not too much of a hassle for me to do and definitely helps when I need more space!

I find I need space beyond my machine... When you're piecing blocks into rows, do they just bunch up against the wall? My space is larger than yours, but not utilized as well. I don't know how to organize my space! Your space looks incredibly peaceful and relaxing.

I totally agree!! I do have just enough space behind the table that the quilt falls through the other side, but for larger quilt tops ill finish up rows on my project table! Thank you for your kind comments, I hope my video inspires you when organizing your own space!

@@chelsistratton3208 It ABSOLUTELY inspired me!! I told my husband that I need to pull everything out, go through it, donate what I don't use, then start putting everything back in, but organized and pretty (and I showed your space for reference). For some reason, sewing in a messy and/or unorganized space puts you in a different headspace than sewing in a well-organized and beautiful space. Thank you so much!

Thanks for the sewing room tour. What is the size of your small space? It help give reference to see how my items might fit in that arrangement.

Hi Joyce! My room measures about 9 ft x 7ft. After adding the shelves I lose about 6 inches of floor space in depth, but gain SO much more space since it's now floor to ceiling shelving!!
