I stopped sewing because it was a pain dragging things out and having to put it away. Well after watching your videos I made a sewing corner in my dinning room. I moved my dinning table into one end of the living room. It made the living room smaller,but we do not have company like we use to and the kids are out of the house. Thanks for the new ideas. ❤

I sew in a small area in my bedroom. It works fine for me. I am sewing on a old computer desk. The desk has a storage area on the side of it.

Thanks to you i have found a craft area in my own house. I have a long narrow guest room that became a dumping ground to hide stuff from my toddler. The room has a window in the middle, so thanks to your inspiration, i divided my room in two, using the wardrobe as a divider. When you walk into the room it now looks like a modestly sized bedroom but behind the wardrobe out of sight is my little haven, ironing space, storage. I call it Narnia. 😂 I saw an ironing solution on just get it done quilting channel. I use a tall narrow shelf with a small board on top. It is sturdy and fits perfectly, because it is a shelf, i can store my iton, spray and rulers and thread on it. Perfect. Thanks for the inspo.

You have motivated me to reorganize my sewing room. I took all my fabric from totes and put them into drawers today. I feel so much better knowing I can see all my fabrics. I had more in my stash than I thought. Thank you Nikki for all the tips ❤

Beside being visually pleasing, the fabric remains in its original state & you can put dates & amt on a scrap of paper inside the folds ,which helps when your ready to sew.

I'm a dining room quilter, but I live alone (widowed empty nester). So I just eat in the kitchen! The built in buffet in there is the perfect height for cutting and fits a mat like it was designed for it! I have a couple of rolling carts for supplies and tools. It only takes about 15 min to put everything away - including sweeping the floor. You do what you have to! Your space is very calm and I love your big closed storage piece.

Happy to see you back and settled in your new space. Two of my children are in the military and I have helped them move a few times and doing it again in October. Your videos over the last 6 months inspired me. I bought my first sewing machine last week and have set up in part of the living room. This video couldn't have come at a better time. I will be getting a Husky desk and lamp directly. And will hunt a second hand dresser for the cutting station. Thank you for the tips on organizing a small space for my future sewing enjoyment. 🌈❤️🌎✌️

I am fortunate to have a large sewing room but the same holds true. Keep stuff in drawers. I have shelves of fabric (and I mean shelves 😂) and it makes thing chaotic. I am going to cover them with some sort of cover. The advantage to a small space is you only buy what you need. The large space you tend to buy way more.

I have a large space also in our new retirement home. I am able to have 6 machines set up all the time in it. But, I did order her shelves and another Ott light. She is so clever. I have an older version of her Janome machine too.

Thanks for sharing your space! It’s great! My machine came with a very sturdy table, but I wanted work space for wool appliqué. I found an old Hoosier cabinet with a butcher block pull out top. I did refinish the cabinets and use the shelves to store books and wool in large glass canisters. The drawers below hold other sewing necessities. Very cozy! ❤🪡🧵

Hello. I too have a very small craft space. We live in a tiny 1730s cottage in Kent, England and my sewing space is in the corner of the sitting room. We’re having an all glass garden room fitted soon so will be taking on board your hints and tips as want to make the most of my new space. Won’t be able to have shelving of course but will look into putting more shelves up in our spare/cat bedroom to use for storage. At least I will have lots of light as our sitting room has no windows at all. Hope to get a dining room table once garden room is finished so can use that for cutting. I currently use the floor for cutting. Hopefully I will do much more sewing once I have more space/light. Thank you for your advice. Lesley x.

I just saw that work bench last weekend and thought what a wonderful sewing desk it would make. Its refreshing to hear someone talk about reducing visual clutter that actually understands the concept! I'll probably move in about 6 to 8 months and will be using an old wall unit/entertainment center for my sewing center. Setting up a cutting table only takes a couple of minutes and with garment sewing, I do it all at the beginning.

OMG thank you SO much!. I am about to change my sewing/craft room to a different room in the house so this was very helpful. Especially the idea of using a dresser for a cutting table! We have an old dining table I was going to use but was not looking forward to trying to find a place for it, and it seems wobbly. I am going to go to a thrift store and find an old dresser and paint it. Thanks for the idea, brilliant!

Yay, so glad you found it helpful! If you find the dresser too short, you can add casters to the bottom, which can add several inches to the height 👍🏻

Kinda wish you gave us a walking tour of your cute space. I’m a visual person, and love to see how those with small sewing rooms do their spaces. Also, I know quilters may need more space. Maybe even a professional seamstress that requires mannequins, dress fitting spaces & etc…. I have a small space with only 1 empty wall, as 1 wall has the doorway into room. The 3rd wall is a giant opening like window to below living room, then the 4th wall is a French door and window size French door that leads to the outdoors , upstairs deck, which is big. The French doors are encased with built ins book shelves and bottom storage, which is great but not enough storage. It’s a small room, but full of light and just so cute. Thanks for showing us yours.

I invested in two rolling carts this year that have helped to corral regular supplies for crafting. I keep a small "button" cart near my machine desk, as well. These are nice mobile options for a small space. I also store some of my fabric in a closet. My main craft area is a small bedroom with limited space. Using clear bins on top of a bookcase and desk help keep some storage out of the work area. Thank you for sharing your tips;)

Thanks for sharing your new space. I've just recently found your channel. I am blessed to have a "Hoosier" cabinet. It was the only kitchen space my granny Cook had for a while. The top of the lower section slides out to give more counter space. I have a dresser for storage. For cutting, I am blessed to have a desk that has four leaves and pulls out to about 83". I remember it in our home back in 1968. Back then, it had folding dining chairs. They pinched fingers horribly if one wasn't careful folding and owning them. I also have a large cutting mat that fits on it. So when not needed, it condenses into a small desk with two small drawers. It's great as I haven't had a dedicated craft area in any of my apartments.

Love your cozy sewing space! You have great tips and I liked how you placed your ironing board in a narrow space yet very functional. I love to sew & do paper crafts and I also have two Husky adjustable workbench, 46" for sewing & 62" for papercrafts/mix media. I love the style and function in both of my space, especially the height adjustment. My sewing room is separate from my craft space and is in a small multipurpose room that has limited space. I also purchased a Norden gate leg table from Ikea to use as a cutting table. I'm short, so the Norden table height works well for me. The table folds down to only 10" depth when not in use, but extends out to 35" to 60". In addition, the table has 6 deep, but narrow drawers for addition storage. The table is well built and was reasonably priced before Covid, not sure on current price. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoy your RU-vid content and look forward to your next video!

I have the husky table and I like it. I bought mine at Home Depot a couple of years ago and it was on sale at the time. So I paid significantly less than Amazons price today (10-10-23). The only drawback for me is that it is only 24 inches from front to back. I bought the one that is 52 inches left to right. The 24 is a bit smaller than I wanted. However, I may try to make a larger top for it. I also purchased a motorized desk for my cover stitch machine at Office Depot/Office Max. I forget. I love the ability to adjust the height. I have my sewing area in the basement and lighting is a problem. I’m working on that issue.

I have always had a prejudice that fabric and notions do best if protected from the sun, dust, and now we know CFL lights; so in drawers and non translucent boxes. I have had larger to shared spaces and have found that while they can be pretty, colors, fabrics, and eye catching goodies are distracting; it only gets more so in larger spaces. In the past 10 years or so, I have come to be gifted portions of a couple of stashes with items upto decades old. Those items protected from sun, dust, and damp are still good even though some date back into the 1950's, maybe 1940's. - I have become an even stauncher advocate of protecting textiles from sun, light, dust, and damp which means they do not become wall displays.

Love, love all of your videos which are so full of usable tips and so inspiring. Thank you for this particular video as I'm just taking over the dining room for my daughter's and my sewing room. I love the look and idea of the Husky sewing table as I'm 6' tall and my daughter is not yet 5' - we can adjust the table accordingly. Question. I've sewn everything, including many floor length, lined drapes on my Janome machine with it sitting on top of our dining table rather than set down in a proper sewing cabinet. With all the sewing you do, did you ever sew with your machine set down flush in a sewing cabinet specific table? Many quilters in my beginners class tell me they love their machines inset flush, but I kind of prefer the free standing machine like you have yours ... and I can always put the little extension table on my machine that came with it. Thanks for your input before I purchase a table!!
@PinCutSew
@PinCutSew Год назад
Hi there! I’ve sewn with my machine inset, though I understand why some people prefer it. The husky table being adjustable is it’s best feature and helps you have good posture even without the machine being inset!

I have three dressers for storing my fabric, cross-stitch and yarn supplies. In my closet I have open PVC shelves that I'm tolerating for the time being. My biggest problem is my cutting surface.
