Always giving praise to people who are daring to model. Give praise and a thump up for the woman model and I think she looks fantastic with or without the photography gadgets.

Mark, Your tone of voice was really great in this video, more conversational, not so much like a news broadcaster. Engaging. Sounds like you're talking to your audience the way people really talk. On another note, all of your videos rock and I appreciate them so much.

For nikon shutters: if you have a D70, D80, D90, D200, D300, D300s, D7000 (The one used in this video) You dont need the SU-800 Commander to fire and SB-600, SB-800, SB-900 or SB-700 flash. All those cameras work with nikons CLS (creative light system) allowing you to fire them using your cameras pop-up flash. Look in your cameras manual. I started doing my fist gigs with a Nikon D80, 2 nikon SB-600 and 1 umbrellas. Mark, thanks for all your tips and reviews.

Thanks for the video presentation and the info! Very informative. I have a Rogue Flashbender and now I understand better how to use it better. On the Nikon D90 and D7000 (and other models, too) you can use the pop-up flash as a commander for off-camera Speedlight flash. The Commander device is nice, but to really keep the spending in check you can use what's already provided. All you need to remember is to point the sensor on the flash toward the camera and then adjust the head to your liking.

I like the video for the examples how to use umbrella and snoot, but Nikon D7000 and D7100 can trigger wirelessly Nikon's flashes with their own built in flash commander. Cheaper Nikons don't have that function though, but if you are really on a tight budget I suggest a set of two yongnuo yn-560III flashes with built in wireless triggers and yongnuo yn-603II wireless trigger. You can get whole set for Nikon and Canon for less than the price of Nikon's or Canon's cheapest speedlight, the only catch is they are manual, but with little practice and trial and error you can learn how to set them up.

Thanks man, my working horse set was SB800 as the master and 2 YN565 slaves, later came YN622 triggers which I still use today
@HadiKnowledges
@HadiKnowledges 5 лет назад
Are the all YN triggers can remote all YN with receiver inside flash?
@Krrypton
@Krrypton 5 лет назад
@@HadiKnowledges : No, they have 2 different "versions" (603 and 622) for the radio remote thingie. The main difference (at least from a user's point of view) is that 622, the newer protocol, can do TTL, while the older one (603) can't; and, on the ergonomics side of things, the newer remotes (622TX) have an LCD for settings, while the older ones only had switches.
@Krrypton
@Krrypton 5 лет назад
yankieyan1 : In fact, it somewhat baffled me that they suggested an IR instead of radio flash trigger for "low budget" reasons. I'm sorry, but for only the price of a Nikon infrared flash commander, you can buy a whole basic lighting setup (1 radio trigger, 2 flashes, a couple of light stands and umbrellas, plus some reflectors) from brands like Godox or Yongnuo. (And I would recommend Godox if one plans to extend later with some more "serious" lighting, because YN doesn't make monolights, while Godox has a whole plethora of them, costing anywhere from $150 to $1000 depending on the model.)
@MrTanker10a
@MrTanker10a 11 лет назад
I agree with your comment because I have the D300 which I use in Commander Mode for Remote triggering. Also the SU-800 costs (ADORAMA PRICE: $249.95) a lot more than a pair of Phottix Atlas wireless remote unit.

Great thanks Mark,Julie, and Adorama, I shoot from noon to midnight auto racing , most shooters are in the turns so I shoot where there aren't any shooters and try to get the cars at there highest speed . I find myself using the sports mode when the sun is up and when the dust sets in and the track lights are off using S and A and have started to use the Nikon SB-900 to get the drivers eyes ! Come Join me at a Dirt track ! Hard to find any help doing this . most shooters use strobes . Done .

What about these hard plastic defusers that the press use at grip and grin events. Come in many colours white blue, yellow red will thesework with light umbrellas.

The D7000 also has built in commander mode. You wont need the SB900 or the command unit. You could use a SB600 just as well. Its is a shame the D3100 and D5100 don't have that option. It saves a major expense by having that option built in. Indoors it is easy to controll several SB600s with the camera only. Outdoors you may need wireless radio controlls. They can get expensive as well if you want to use TTL.

No, the Eclipse is a convertible, and it works well as a shoot-through with the cover removed. That said, a shoot-through in a very small space can give you a lot more uncontrolled reflections than a reflector; a softbox or a "spill kill" cover on a shoot-through (or something like a Halo) will give you much better control.

Bouncing flash you actually get a larger surface area so the light is alot softer, but you can get shadows under eyes if you are bouncing of ceilings .. but the best way to go if its just a quick shot just want low ceilings and step back a few meters so the angle of bounce is further so less chance of shadows :)

I was surprised too... These kits are each pushing the $2000. The Nikon even more so... But once the second flash is added, it's far over $2500... For that price you could go with cheap wireless triggers and a starter 3 light flash kit including stands and modifiers. Plus I would definitely go with either a D5100 or a D3200 for Nikon and Canon T2i instead of the more expensive T3i. Additionally, maybe a nifty fifty (50mm f/1.8). That should get you started well enough...

You can buy both used for a lot less. The D7000 has come down in price a lot recently. You don't need an sb900 either, I use a yongnuo 560 that I got on amazon for €75, I have it 2 years and it's never caused me any problems. Recycle time: 2 seconds at full power ... faster than a Nikon.

Great video but I wonder if you could clarify how working with a small space like this will impact the 'invisible black background' method? I have seen many videos produced by Adorama from you and Gavin Hoey on how to get a black background but I cannot seem to replicate it. I tried last night in my livingroom (I have gray walls, white ceiling), 32" softbox (with grid) and speedlight metered for f8 using sekonic flashmate, standing a couple of feet away from the back wall, the position of the softbox in relation to me was a few inches away from my shoulder but still seem to get light spilling all over the place. At f8 with no flash gave a completely black background.
