The older you get the more you’ll find yourselves in the position where you’ll need to be proficient in small talk as well as not so small talk. Especially dinner parties. Try to familiarize yourselves with subjects that the group you’re in may be interested in before attending. Never leave early when in a group setting. So you aren’t mistaken for a snob or just plain rude. The podcast is getting better each week. I’m really enjoying it!

I can relate to what Hailie said about always the feeling of being in a rush even when i dont need to be, it probably has to do with adhd. When i'm for example at a party my problem is always the moment of leaving, to get up and leave and say everybody goodbye even if i didnt talk to them and especially to walk a way feels like my legs are frozen or something and like dont know how to walk, im also a person that always worry what other people think, but also know that they probably dont care or notice my weardness

Thank you for sharing your experience with anxiety. Makes me not feel so alone I have severe social anxiety and I have felt the same way. So socially awkward.

Whenever I’m asked how I’m doing when it’s surrounding a sensitive topic, I always say “I’m doing the best I can be given the circumstances.” It’s not completely saying I’m doing horrible, but it’s stating that I’m not doing well either. Hope this can help a little! 💞

And yes small talk can be scary hence why it is, but doesn't have to be, obviously depending on who one is around and the rapport between whoever it can be beneficial, lighten loads, and it's part of every day, day to day living, so it's good when it's not involving unknowns that are not vibrating/resonating on the same/similar (enough) level(s), but that can still be fine if dealing with whoever professionally enough (although depending on what it accomplishes can (still) be redundant obviously, hence the lack of comfort potentially)

I know what you're talking about with the social awkwardness. I'm pretty sure everyone has felt that at least once or twice in their life. I agree that we head trip ourselves and that drives our insecurity.

As a man, I understand the anxiety of starting conversations. From an opposite perspective, If I seen you two not talking at a group dinner, I would prolly not try talking to you either because I'd assume you were uninterested. And then if you abruptly left, I would assume you guys just dont really like us lol. Funny how it starts a chain reaction of wrong perceptions. However, now at age 29, I just go for it. I'll talk about anything from "Have you ever been here? Crappy (or beautiful) weather right?" Ask them their zodiac sign, Make a comment about their outfit, It's always easier during a convo to be on the offensive versus the defensive. YOU wanna be asking the questions, the key is to get THEM to scramble for answers, not you. Because now their so focused on answering you correctly, their not overly analyzing anything your gonna say. That removes part of the anxiety. Btw love your decor. Very charming. 🙂

My 3-year-old daughter loves Spirit of Halloween. She makes us go every season and we spend at least an hour with her running back and forth with all the animatronic robots. It is like a whole experience going over there.

I dont like small talk but bc i worked in retail i had to learn it. • start with a compliment •start with a sarcastic joke that u can both relate to (example: if you’re both sitting at the back of the room, you can be like “welcome to the introverts corner!”) • a classic: talk ab the weather •just come right out and tell everyone ab how awkward you are-especially if everyone is quiet at the table or if they keep glancing at you but not sure to talk to you • ask someone ab who they know •ask someone if there is something on your face, hair, etc, even if you know theres nothing there. Then proceed to add to it (“im scared i’ll talk to someone and have spinach in my teeth,” “i was struggling doing my hair before i came here,” “where do u get your hair done?”) I learned more but theres a small list

My go to Halloween movies were Halloweentown, Monster House and Scary Godmother. They're so nostalgic. 😩

Best conversation starter is skipping the obvious. No how are yous. Starter by asking to hear some "good news". Or "anything exciting happening lately?" Allowing the person whom you have presented the question. A chance to think of something positive. If at a funeral, I usually refrain from conversations unless approached. In that case embrace the sadness and it all becomes about feelings more than words. Bunches of hugs!

omg I was so surprised when y’all brought up the enlistment of bts, I’m like oh woooowww😂 but to add a little on it, it’s part of their country and their culture, I’m so proud they’re enlisting! It’s not a part of my culture nor country so I try not to mention much about it, but it’s usually athletes that have won an olympic medal for korea that get the exemption or if there are injuries that prevent it, or if their is family that has fought in a war I believe. & in some surveys from korea, a lot of people didn’t like that bts was getting an exemption… but on the bright side, they’ll serve but be able to perform at special events and such if they wish too!

I've had few paranormal experiences...but there is one I cannot explain until this day... At that time I was living with my parents, my 2 brothers and my sister. Me and my sister shared our bedroom and the bedroom has one window that gives to my parents house interior patio. No one can access the patio unless you break into the house or neighbours house and jump from the neighbours terrace or climb my brothers or parents windows to the roof and jump down to the patio. In Spain, windows have metal bars (I say this because I live in London now and they have no bars in the windows here so I dont know if in the US is the same) One night we were all in bed and suddenly I can listen like a very gentle knock in the window bars (like someone passing their hand gently from side to side of the window) I didnt really pay too much attention until my sister said "did you hear that?", she is a bit younger than me so I tried not to scare her and made an excuse, very typical "thats the wind" (even tho it wasnt windy) Then again the same noise but a little harder .. my sister again told me that it could not be the wind so I made another excuse like maybe it was a cat or a mouse...she stood up from the bed and went and told my dad that there was someone knocking or touching the window and my dad just told her to go back to bed....When she came to bed we stayed quiet and all of a sudden the noise was so loud...it was like this thing was really trying to catch our attention...this time it was like someone passing a stick through the window bars...we ran to tell my dad but the noise was so loud my dad already got out of bed running to the patio, waking up my brothers...they checked all the house my brother climbed to the roof and they run around the couple of streets that surround my house and the neighbours houses and it was completly empty. No one was there. Any of us can explain what happened and it never happened again.

I'm the same way with the small talk stuff or starting conversations. I just wait for the other person to start or say something, if they don't say something oh well life goes on. I won't lose any sleep over it.

I walked by a neighbor's house with a bunch of cats (I like walking by her house because she always has a different cat in her yard) and she was outside and I said "hello" and she said "hello, how are you?" and I said "I'm good, and yourself?" and she said she was fine, but as I was walking by I kept staring her trying to formulate another sentence, but I also was looking for more cats than the other two by her feet and she just stared at me like 'what??' and I realized I was staring and it was really awkward so I quickly walked home. I wanted to small talk and tell her I liked looking at her cats, but I was too embarrassed to compliment her for her cats and garden (her garden is a STUNNER as well).

Yup that’s me also, can’t do small talk, kinda hate it, I’m also a really bad conversation starter, but I’m pretty good at hooking in into a conversation and keep talking, it’s really weird, because a lot of people think I’m boring and have nothing to talk about, but I actually have lots to talk about but just don’t know how to get it going 😩

I have a spooky story: remember watching myself on the mirror, like not moving, and barely or if doing something else, to see what happened... It was at night, in the room of my late grandma, yeah so, time passed by; and slowly I could felt like everything, or several things turn black, and my eye, don't remember if left or right, began like changing, and looking just eviler and eviler, like evil, more evil as time went by... My face also began like seeming like a corpse's or a zombie's face; and the evil eye watching it all. I could sense like a feel of dread, like really scared. It was maybe like myself in the future, or another person watching through me from beyond this realm, or something like that, maybe both. It was terrible; I got scared, then I removed like the stillness I had in order to get that experience, and all that evil thing just faded off. I also could sense like an evil energy through me or that other being, my eye or all of it.

Hailey I am the exact same way to a T always in a rush..I move so damn fast and walk so damn fast no one can keep up everything I do is in a hurry 😫 I try to slow it down but i literally don’t know how lol

One time I was walking really fast in a country in southern Asia. I was walking so fast down the street that I didn’t see a rat running in front of me. He ran right in front of me, and so I ended up kicking him. I felt this soft but tender sensation on my toe and this poor rat went flying in the air. He was literally so heavy. But it didn’t matter, he got flung. Imagine what it must have been like for the lady walking towards me when she saw a rat flying in the air. I didn’t know whether to cry or just scream. I still cringe about it!
