Wow.....very impressive! How intimidated I would be at first..... I truly wondered how it would come together. The artist is a true visionary of sorts...such an artist! Thank you for sharing this with us all. I really loved it. Paula
What a wonderful garden. Just a gardener come in a couple of times a year to trim up and clean and it will only get better. Thanks for sharing this video, much love and peace. Blessings
Mastery at it's finest Annie 🙌🏾 I congratulate you 💯💯💯💯 brilliant design and execution If i was that client i would have paid double at the end no matter the cost 💯❤️
At the beginning of this clip, I thought, Oh, No, not more boring modern box like concepts, but... Annie's ideas and implementation turned out to be better than the original plan. What a great outcome! The planting reminded me of the New Zealand bush and the sculptures really worked. The only jarring note was the guy who was a trifle narcissistic, although his suggestion to increase the height of the water feature, which looked fantastic btw, was a good one - he just needed to remember that the project was not all about him...
The fountain was cool, I liked the bamboo. All the rest, nah. What the owner needed was Charlie Dimmock! Now that's a woman who knows how to weave together "tropical" looking plants into a wonderful larger than life design.
Lots of clever camera angles and beautiful individual pieces but oh dear ... The screens are like vacant advertising hoardings. The garden is a little green version of Phoenix, Az. The challenge here would have been to create a quintessentially English garden in the small space - bursting with flowers, etc. through the seasons.
Usually more than the rest of us could afford. Custom made sculpture ... at least $2,000 each and the rest of the props another $3,000. The Bamboo is expensive, for the height and species $200 x 8 (I priced them locally where I live). Most of us do not have unlimited funds to play with, so we have to piece-meal it along. The waterfall, if you know any teens still in school who are taking metal shop, might be able to knock n weld something together, with the right incentive.
Tell me about it! As an Aged Pensioner I am starting a garden from scratch on a steep slope in hostile conditons! My 'other' garden are my gardening books. One can dream.
I usually scout n scavenge for odds n ends. I found an old beat up metal headboard (think brass bed), took it home, hosed it down and painted it. It now is a small privacy screen/border to carry sweet peas and morning glory. Out driving around you can usually find wildflowers growing by the roadside or the edge of a parking lot growing up through the cracks (keep a small shovel and a few pots in the back of the car for such opportunities). Also, don't be shy about knocking on someones door to complement their garden and asking for a few cuttings. Most people will oblige with a smile. Returning later with some of your own cuttings is a way of saying thank you.
Like the sound of your old brass bed headboard now covered in sweetpeas and morning glory! I have to say I think the gardens of 'real people' as opposed to landscapers have much more personality.
@Deb photos.app.goo.gl/S78SYhm6Eqdtz62u6 Coincidentally, today someone asked to see some photos of the garden. These are from late December to now. Unfortunately, in real time the garden only happens in seasonal bits and pieces and some of these flowers will never be seen again but others will replace them. A garden is a changing picture. A huge amount of hard work for an 'old girl' :)
Would have been better to allow sight to travel outwards to the neighbours roof. The mesh in itself and the idea of seeing the leaves through it is good but it is dominated by the frame and support for the mesh which form a too solid eye stopping boundary.
Pipsqwak Yes. I thought that was a bad choice of design of conservatory for that space. I guess they didnt want to look at the side walls but they could have grown things up those walls. They could have built in trellis and mirrors so that they gave the impression of windows through the walls, or painted beautiful views on them.
I groaned when she said she liked FLW. Soulless, pretentious architecture, and the falling water house in PA is ugly blocks of concrete ruining a beautiful waterfall.
Few years back on TV. Young British guy. Landscape designer. Clients with small budget's/ small yards. I thought he came up with some really creative plans. And he wasn't stuffy or arrogant. Anyone know the guy or show I am referring to? Love to see some of those episodes on You Tube. Young and tall. Say he was in his 20's or early 30's. Did work by himself.
wow I had no idea about this series of Small Town Gardens. 2003 and looking so contemporary. Beautiful. Not keen on the presenter who was a bit of a stereotyped gay man of that time. Nice that things have moved on in that respect.
when bamboo is surrounded by lots of other strong rooted plants, it has no room to spread and if harvested/thinned out regularly, not a problem if a smaller types are chosen.
I would have used the facing wall Aluminum faced water fall then planted featured drama plant s or trees that reflect on the water wall instead of table and chairs sunken alu. centre seating.for table centre changeable fire . Hers just look too much!
@Molly McCullagh The term first appears in 1681[1] in reports of a London murder. The term came into wider circulation in 1695 after its mention by a character in William Congreve's play Love for Love, although the design is much older. It was probably so called in reference to its "claws", which inflict parallel wounds
Well I like the fountain! Lol, those plants are all wrong for that space; that bamboo will completely choke out the entire yard, and it will be forever in permanent darkness lol. The plants are all way too close together and have no room to grow, it just seems way too cluttered just for the sake of spending money, lol. That is a beautiful fountain though
It's hard to decide from this side of the pond, but do people in Britain actually like this James guy? It was only by sheer power of will that I made it to the end.
Ugly neighbors? What a term! I am NOT at all impressed with the fellow on this program. I do like the finished product & the homeowner seems like a really nice gal.
I kind of like the guy, he has a weird sense of humor!!!! now ,the screens not to my liking, but the owner likes it sooooo be it! OY Not fond of the metal sculpture either aaaaaaaa water feature is nice though bamboo is quite aggressive. Ok all and all I can do a great job on my own lol
Very claustrophobic. The sculpture won’t work, will get covered in grime and moss. Impossible to keep clean. Same with the screens. The plants will quickly grow too big.
monumentally stupid to plant bamboo in a small garden. those walls would look spectacular with climbing roses and clematis on them , the trellises are already in place
Looks like an given up factory terrain. What bad quality water feature. What ridiculous dilletantes. Who will crawl around and behind to clean up this senseless mess? A contortionist?
