I didn't know you guys can legally use pike as bait in Wisconsin, learn something new everyday. At the end, I almost don't recognize Brian without a cap on. I like when you guys fish together.

You can use most gamefish as long you count it against your limit and it meets all length requirements.

Think of it this way. If a 40" Musky can easily eat a 12" inch Walleye then how big would "live" bait have to be for a 60" Musky. Hint, a 28" Pike is not too big for a 50" Musky and Pike are easy to catch. No need to spend $5 on 14 inch suckers at the bait store.

I'll educate you young man. Large numbers of small pike have a hugely negative affect on lakes. They stunt the growth of panfish and other pike, hence why you hear about so many "hammerhandles" and no big ones. Back in the "day" these lakes would produce maybe less than 10 pike in the gill net (mostly big ones), now it's like 30-40 small pike per gill net. NOT good! So yes, more people SHOULD be using small pike as bait. It might be one of the best methods of bringing back a good population of LARGE pike (unless of course, you like catching 20 hammerhandles anytime you fish for anything!)

@@Weekendairsoftwrrior They are on the best tasting fish I've ever had. The small ones can be tricky to clean your first time, but once you get it down they are one of the easiest fish to clean!

That is true I just don’t generally agree with using pike as bait. Especially for muskies that might take a bite at it and tear it up. Then just leave after that for the shredded pike to be thrown back, and inevitably be floating on its back within a few hours. Although fish don’t have to neural complexity to feel pain, i don’t like the idea of it. i think that a stunted pike population could be used to feed people though. But thanks for your input.
