@@udyan9571 It actually reduces the watchtime. if you watch a 10 minute video at 2x speed it's watchtime is only 5 minutes. which in my opinion is bad for youtuber... I don't understand why they do this... Ankur Warikoo does the same thing.

Although Smallcase sounds like a good option, one should be aware that such theme based small cases might lead to decrease in returns over time. Instead diversification will be less risky.
Even am a newbie what I can say about diversification is that investing in multiple shares, mutiple sectors, multiple asset classes, so overall these all will make you returns but if instantly one sectors starts performing poorly because of some reason your overall return won't get affected that much. Now much % in which sector or asset class etc that am not gonna tell you. Look up yourself, beware of debt funds right now because of USA economy.

Please make a video(s) on various small cases explaining ( breaking down further for layman ) and the ticket sizes appropriate to the fees for them , time horizon et, this would be very helpful for choosing a mix of small cases for short, short-long and long term ( e.g EV could be a long term). 3. Also if we say invest into a X number of small cases and then based on performance say for next 6 months we can have the flexibility of trimming down the investments, how to stop a small case. 5. Please also ellaborate on the impact of short term capital gains ( due to rebalancing in small case) which a mutual fund investor doesnt have to bear.
Why is no youtuber talking about the STCG implication in smallcase for every rebalance. Suppose I invest 50k in a smallcase, after 3 months it is rebalanced and just for simplicity lets say that the cost of stocks sold is equal to the cost of stocks purchased. Say, there is 50% portfolio turnover, and we sell stocks for 25k and rebuy the newer stocks. In that 25k, say there is 5k capital gain, which we will have to pay tax on, when we didnt really "gain" any capital as we just reinvested the money. When in mutual funds people say that the dividends dont come to us directly we should also see that the tax implications are also not on us directly. More than the "commissions", it is the STCG in smallcases that reduces the returns.
This rebalancing is too frequently happening. If some one has to gain LTCG, manual baskets are prepared by self for atleast one financial year is the only solution.

Please don't follow this blindly. Smallcases can have frequent rebalancing of stocks which can heavily impact your return. This is not true for mutual funds. The tax is not factored in the CAGR shown on the smallcase website. The fact that Akshat didn't mention this shows he is not different from other youtubers.
@@puru2652 I mean short term capital gains because of rebalancing. You don't have to pay this in mutual funds. If you are comparing the 2, how do you not mention this?
@@MrEternalFool then they are supposed to just do charity for minimal charges. Obviously there's gonna be a catch and rebalancing is optional. Know your stuff and then u can decide not to do that if you feel so
Like mutual funds, small cases are also framed by fund managers. How do we know the competency of these fund managers that whatever rebalancing they will be doing is going to be benefitial. In MF we can track its rating via crisil and similar rating agencies, nothing as such in smallcase. Its a new product and it has been promoting by paying heavily these youtubers.
Hey @ Akshat, you missed one point. In case of rebalancing in Smallcase, there would be capital gain implications for the individual. Although in case of mutual funds rebalancing, same would not be applicable for individual.

@@TheBoomsonic A few other RU-vidrs have made video on the specific charges and taxation. Please check them out, Akshat was definitely biased towards smallcase and the whole intent of the video was to get everyone to use smallcase.

I have been a fan of small cases. But lately me and my friends have problem with few of them. Some of the small cases have closed down without any support. Benchmark indices have been changed without any communication. I have moved out of my small case investments. Just my experience
@@VALAR_Morgulis. Yes, My experience is too many partners created Small cases without any checks & balances. Unlike a MF as there is no control, a partner can close a small case whenever it wants. Especially when they miss a trend and it gets into a loss for few quarters. I do not have the data to share now. Have a look at Abhimanyu's scenario. Over 3 years he not only made losses but 17 of the 18 small cases closed down. (www.quora.com/What-is-your-review-of-smallcase-by-Zerodha). Once a small case close down, there is no rebalancing and you are left with stocks without any guidance. I am planning to reach out to small case on this & curious to understand their response
@@VALAR_Morgulis. Earlier there were no charges from the small case side. You still had to pay the Brokerage charges based on your broker (Just like you buy/sell stocks). But now small case charges Rs 100 for each BUY in addition to the charges you pay to the broker (zerodha-help.smallcase.com/en/articles/410729-charges-for-smallcases)
Hi Akshat, thanks for the video. You can't expect viewers to believe that you invest in smallcase with the dashboard you showed. An investement of 60K is nothing and it's an attempt to mislead people that you are completely in smallcase. It's fine that you need not share everything you do, but if you say that you invest in smallcase, then also tell what percent of your money is invested into small case. This dashboard is a sham!
Hey akshat as you showed at the end that on small case you get suggestions to rebalance. Now if we rebalance our shares we would be entitled to pay 15% as short term capital gain on every readjustment. Then wouldn't this make smallcase portfolios extremely expensive when compared to a mutual fund. Please do share your thoughts on this!!
Even I had the same question, I checked my friends portfolio, rebalancing isn't always done by selling a stock at higher price. Even if they do there will be some stocks which you will have to sell for a loss, in a way it sets off. The chances of you paying stcg is less, and even if you have to pay it will be minimal. But what sucks is you'll end up paying more DP, STT and other charges than actual tax. This is something every RU-vidr promoting smallcase don't tell us. To conclude Mutual funds are flexible if we do proper research. Smallcase is lucrative, but you'll realise there are more charges than a mutual fund
Akshat, yes please create videos on top 3 small cases..Also please consider the actual returns as rebalancing is happening now and then and for each stock we need to pay STCG..Also I would encourage if you personally create a small case for us as we have big hope on your analysis.
@@mithileshreddy8420 He could have explained the depository charges which will be occured whenever you rebalance your portfolio. These will literally eat up your capital if you sell and buy stocks frequently, not to mention the short term capital gains tax.

Nice video Akshat. Very informative. I would suggest if you could touch base on " Rebalancing concept" with 80-20 rule of buying and selling. Its slight tricky and many early investors get jittery while rebalancing their portfolio either weekly or monthly

I just exited all my small cases today after investing for 6 months. I was predominately mutual fund investor for past 15 yrs or so. So I’m a long term investor but have been investing in stock market for the past 6 months. I invested some money thru small case, some based on my very basic research and understanding of Indian economy, and some in top performing mutual funds. I kept buying on dips in all 3 different options listed above. As of today both my stock and mutual fund investments are in heavy green (10-12% high) but all small cases are in red or just about even. It’s a piece of crap actually, guys go with mutual funds and you won’t repent. So guys use your own brain and do bare min research and invest. Atleast you won’t have to blame anyone for investing with your own thoughts instead of putting blind trust in products like small case
Hello Akshat, Great video! Very clearly articulated! While choosing to invest in a Smallcase, I'd like to ask how to decide whether to go for a SIP or a Lumpsum? I'm sure there is more to this than just getting into the discipline and habit of investing! For the smallcases which have a low minimum value amount, I think SIP would be better (correct me if I'm wrong) but I get confused when its the high minimum value smallcases! Please guide me with this clarification!
Hey Akshat, whenever there is a rebalance. Which is usually done every quarter, on selling stocks a tax event is originated. Thus, don't u think there will be lot of portfolio churning and thus STCG? Also do u think smallcases are effective for long term investing?
1. When can I withdraw the money? Will there be any deduction from the minimum amount. 2. What does 3year CARG mean? 3. How does rebalancing work? How often do I have to do? Will I have to pay any money for it? How often do I have to do in a year.
Thank you for the video, Akshat. Very informative. One question though - do small cases also have a filters/financial rules that govern them instead of just themes. For example - PPFAS Flexi Cap clearly says they will buy low PE and debt free companies whereas Axis Bluechip says they will invest in cash rich, debt free, High RoE businesses. Do such themes play across Smallcase or are Smallcase investments just based on themes ?
Yes please create a small case, the problem with small case is when I bought a small case like all weather and it got mixup with my equity portfolio, and while iam trading i unknowingly getting out of these stocks when the market is in panic situation.
Mf dividend is not a dividend. They sell some units and give you your money.. People were being mislead..hence sebi renamed it to idcw (income distribution and capital withdrawal)..it is no longer called dividend option

Please answer this question- whenever we are rebalancing then we are selling and buying multiple stocks, then we would be charged brokerage, STT, capital gains tax etc for it each time. So realistically what are the returns on the small cases ? Is it better than buying those stocks individually without frequent rebalancing?
Yes I think that causes a major drain. Rebalancing frequency varies from weekly to quaterly. So essentially, in each rebalance the no. of types of stocks that are being sold, we end up paying Rs 15*(no. of types). For video's example - 15*9 = 135Rs would have been deducted as Depository charges. Interesting thing is Smallcase wouldn't count that `loss` in its investments dashboard. But 135*4 = 540 seems to be a major drain in profits yearly. Thoughts?
@@theraveskies Yes. One other interesting observation is smallcase misleads users by not showing data of 6months, 1Yr. Most of their Smallcases(all weather, equity and gold) haven't performed better than Bluechip MFs in last 6 months. I think SmallCase is mainly living off youtubers promotion.
what about relabalancing & stock delivery charges everytime we rebalance the basket ? Usually for active baskets rebalncing is done quiet frequently. You didn't cover this part.
Hey, Akshat. I am a huge fan of your channel and watch your videos regularly to de-stress myself. I have genuinely learnt a lot from you and would be forever grateful. However, this video seemed completely against MFs and biased towards Smallcase. For isntant, you specifically mentioned about MFs having high expense ratio but did not highlight how index and many other MFs can have low expense ratios as well- just like Smallcase. The problem/issue is the same on both the sides; I would have apprecited if you would have highlighted the same. Thanks :)

Correction sir- 13:33 In mutual fund you can choose the option for divided payout option. So it's not necessary that your dividend is reinvested. 14:35 Entry loads are not charged by the Mutual funds on equity based schemes

Hey Akshat, thanks for the great video! How does one decide if a particular smallcase is worth investing or not? Most of them show the past 2-3 years' CAGR which obviously looks very rosy now. Whereas with MFs, we usually rely on the credibility of the fund manager who has been in the markets for over 15-20 years.
