The "massive" 6' bed is empty. There's no passengers in it. The suspension is almost maxxed out with very little ground clearance. With the long wheelbase, it doesn't look like it has enough breakover to clear a speedbump. Absolutely would NOT get a red cent of my money.
Its certainly pretty cool. However for the money they would probably cost i wouldn't buy one. I love the tent setup mainly....but im not giving up my 6 person popup tent that goes up in seconds for a multi thousand dollar rig. Its easy enough to just carry that stuff with ya on a normal ride
Great concept👍pop up tent is ok but I would take my swag. Needs more lights, charging points n roll out bbq/sink for overnight camping which be great for long weekend.
Jamie Shields I agree this is just a bunch of bolt of stuff / make it more of an actual overland setup ... an axe attached to the side of the rack with a tent doesn’t make it an overland setup lol
@TFLoffroad @CanAm I absolutely love this idea. As a UTV owner in Colorado, it is amazing to go out into the mountains and see the places that these machines can take you. Adding the ability to overland camp at some of these places absolutely interests me. @CanAm, if you guys decide to move forward with this idea, PLEASE make it easily attainable by the middle class. What I mean by that, is that I don't need an audio system, full cab, Air conditioning, or any fancy features like that. I just want an affordable machine that can get me out there. Thanks!
Yes it’s awesome I’m am purchasing a four door max limited . I would have loved to have this in my younger days. This is perfect for young couples to get out off road
too much weight.you can't set up camp then go for a wheel.you're better off with a small utility converted to a camping trailer.it would be ok if all you want to do is overlanding trips, but exploring with a base camp is out.make a trailer to go with the stock unit and you may have something.
Great concept but would be probably too expensive and is kind of small. Love the canopy, bike rack, roof system. I think the roof system might be better suited for some type of storage. Just don't want to make it to top heavy.
It’s a great concept! I myself like the build that was done with the defender pulling an off-road overland trailer with the tent on the trailer so the vehicle can still be used to explore without having to pack everything up to go have fun. I say go ahead BRP and give us the options to choose this route or another.
Nice concept but I’d use the six by six Defender. Add a full cab, the HVAC system from the Limited and beef up the suspension, arched A arms for more ground clearance and use bigger tires. Just my two cents :)
I have the hd 10 limited. I use mine for everything and have over 10 thousand miles on mine. Me personally. Im going to build an off raod camper for mine. Defenders are top heavy and tall to begin with. Once you build your defender out with up grades. Like suspension and larger tiers . It's just not practical. Pus you have to break camp to use your machine. Trust me . Put you money in an off raod trailer. They are a lot more practical. And you're keeping the weight off the machine.
They're street legal in Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Texas, Minnesota, Wyoming, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Montana, North and South Dakota, Washington, Michigan, Kentucky, Nebraska, Ohio, Vermont, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Tennessee and Colorado
Do a normal short bed and bring the tent from the front of the roof to the back of the bed. That’s ugly if you ever take the rack off lol. You can ditch the bike hitch and put the rack that’s on the roof there and do a roll out storage in the bed like trucks have. Don’t need a long bed! Cool concept though I’d like to see someone start it off
Love it! I wanted to buy a Jeep and do some outlander stuff but instead bought a can am defender max xt for property and to do something like this. I would love to see more accessories for the defender! Great concept , great ideas.
Can Am Instructions list each LinQ fastener at 30lbs load capacity. Four LinQ fasteners on each side of the bed walls securing that rack / tent / accessory setup totals 240lbs. I would bet that this is a concept because there is no good way to secure that load to the removable plastic bed walls. I just ordered a 2022 6x6 and am going to fabricate some hoops to hold a rack and bikini top over the bed (minimum weight). I currently have a Can An Commander with a rack and spare tire/wheel in it. I can tell you that putting weight up high - raising the center of gravity - makes these vehicles unsafe to drive, super prone to roll.
Great concept... cost is probably not so great...only problem let's see, have to have a tow vehicle and trailer big enough to haul it. Then you park the tow vehicle and trailer. Hopefully in a safe place. That remains until you go and get back from your camping trip. Can't get any more aggressive four wheeling with all the gear on it then someone with a Toyota or similar, that is street legal. So break downs should not happen. Needs better tires maybe spacers and lift 30 .. 32 inch.. Need cable each side of front. Roof rack to brushgaurd, limb whackers. Can Am has side railing with headache rack? to support tent and tools. PEUCE ? Polaris has Northstar Edison full cabin with heat and a/c, and GPS ... Concept is good... expensive and not street legal... to many vehicles...???
I was actually talking to my son about getting a rig to go deep in the forest find some lakes and just camp out and fish! No phone, no TV just father / so. Time
There are off road camping trailers. I have one with the cab ac and heat. There is enough body roll as is. It's got great potential of a overlander. I would stick with a trailer.
I'd buy it if I had the money to waste. I like the idea of a lighter off-road vehicle that you can comfortable camp in and like you all mentioned, will get you further and deeper into the woods.
It's a solid idea, has most of the bases covered for any aspiring overlander. Sure it't possible that it may feel more top heavy than a bare back model, but add heavy duty springs if not already applied, and the fact that a roof top tent like that is probably less than 100 Lbs, (not including the other rack accessories) I bet it wouldn't be too bad. Its something that I've been waiting for/ wanting to do to my own SxS, and due to the lack of SxS sized R.T.T.s on the market (that i like), I'm probably just going to go with a 2 person tent cot for now, while trying to make the rest of the machine more off-road capable.
the idea you have there is fairly sound. one suggestion is due to the weight using the 6x6 model for better terrain contact and allows spreading weight out more. another suggestion is for can am to build a compact 2 or 4 wheel trail same wheels and suspension as utv. dimensionally same as tent base. put 2" receiver hitches front side and rear to allow individual to place gear where they want When you purchase trailer tent already mounted on it's own roof rack. also make bed have dump feature as well.
