Surfed there once in the mid 80's, access was a little different to now and donated a fair bit of skin to the reef at on end section. Every time i see one of your videos from Padang and the end of the reef goes dry, i have a laugh and remember standing on that dry reef looking at a double overhead set breaking 10m in front of me. Funny now but wasnt at the time.
@@jez443 There is not much you can do except try to avoid the reef as much as possible until you get far enough in to walk or paddle. Any way you go, your going to lose a bit of skin. Best to see as the price of entry 😉
And what's not helping the case here is that there's a whole bunch of photographers sitting right in the way of that last section especially when you need to get high and tight a bunch of little head land mines you're trying to avoid messes up the line you have to draw to make it out
@@pitvincent11 They will chase you sometimes if they're on a bike though. They like tourists, they deliver cash on wheels and so many of them are riding without a proper license.
They are not doing real police work, it's a status thing among rich Indonesians and celebrities to spend Rp.1.5 Juta on a police escort, particularly when going to stupid clubs like Omnia. They blast their sirens, use bullhorns, and generally make a huge clusterfvkc of all traffic they pass through. Trust me, I live on the bloody Omnia road, and the sirens have now become a regular occurrence.
Yeah on that tide, if you’re deep & “eat it”, you better scramble for the channel and get off that shelf as fast as you can! Taking a few or more on the head, in shin deep water, equals nasty reef cuts.
Pretty dumb comment, I surf Ulu from padang when its 3 to 4 ++ times overhead, and when the cave paddle out for my sweeping machine is foolish. Wiamea ? have you surfed that sloppy drop ?
