Time for a little Topwater Smallie action! I headed out to do the local urban creek to fish another new section. This time it was Smallmouth Bass fishing whopper plopper style!
I was throwing the regular Whopper Plopper 75 and 90 sizes on the 22 Shimano Aldebaran / Expride set-up.
So, did I plop a whopper? I definitely caught my first topwater fish of 2022. There was alot of walking, but it ended up being worth it.

really enjoy these, just got into bfs and caught my first tiny bass today on bfs. I enjoy just watching someone fish and figure out the water. not crazy music or talking. Just perfect keep it up, hope youre enjoying everything EDIT: hahah had to come back to make a comment on the great camera work on the bad eye smallie hahahahaha so funny keep it up!

I had a great late summer top water day on a small stream with the whopper plopper loon color size 75(1/4oz) so much fun. Great vid. Thanks man!

Oh and the best luck I had on top water was to twitch it two or three pops when it hit the water then a steady retrieve. Seemed to entice them more👍🏼

Stick with it - I haven't been all that sucessful either most trips! But when they're on it's a lot of fun.

As soon as you said you caught this fish before, I remembered old evil eye. Funny that they ended up being two different fish. There were no smallmouth in the lake where I was in South Dakota, so the hunt continues. Good work out there 👍

Great job! Always fun to catch them on topwater. Couple of nice creek smallies! There was one smallmouth in a small creek that i caught several times over a 3 year span. It was very recognizable with a humped back and black spot on its tail. Exact same spot each time. I know you realized that was a different fish you caught, but there is a good chance of catching it again next time you fish there. I find that those creek smallies tend to find a good spot and spend their entire lives in that area.

Yeah - I thinkt hat biased me a bit - because I've seen the same thing - certain fish - especially larger fish - seem to have "their spot" in the creek. Thanks for watching, as always! Maybebe we can get ot for some topwater fun together soon.

Very pretty creek with good fishing action. A quick question; how does the Expride compare to the Obsession Mojo Bass? I know that the MB is an L action and the Expride a ML but those are close enough that a comparison is possible and meaningfull. Would appreciate your thoughts now that you have actually fished the MB. Thanks!

The Expride is more flexible with a more progressive bend. At least as much backbone. Smoother casting. It's in another league compared to the Mojobass - or just about any other rod I've ever fished. BUT, the Mojobass rod is good. Very good for the price. I'll be putting a DWU on it sometime soon to try out.

Great video🤗 i have one question, the lure wasn't too big for little river? i mean didn't make too much noise?

Definitely not - the design of that lure is to make noise and splash a bit to draw attention. Smallmouth bass are agressive fish. And the goal was to try to draw out the larger fish - I definitely could have caught more with a true bait finesse, small swimbait or lure. Even an inline spinner like a Panther Martin would probably catch more fish. I might have to do that video soon! :) Thanks for watching - and I appreciate your consistent support.

can i use 4lb test line a light rod thats suggests to use 6lb test? my thoughts would be for farther casting with lighter lures and more of a challenge. but i dont really know the disadvantages besides my line snapping

I think you'll be fine. set your drag low - I think the only disadvantages are: rod maybe too heavy for line (not likely that close in rating), or smaller diameter line can slip behind spool on some reels. i grew up fishing 4lb on 6 to 8 lb rods. Also, plan to use your arms and legs as additional shock absorbers when fighting fish. always a good idea IMO.

@@kongthao5121 Distance is so subjective and so many variables. I run really light lines and fish smaller creeks and streams mostly, so rarely struggle for distance. If you want distance on 10-15g lures, this will get it done - maybe the longer rod is better. Below 8-10g, it's going to be average at best.
