In this video, we're building the best RU-vid lighting setup for your at-home studio. We're going to be using both the SmallRig RC220B and RC220D to achieve this setup. We're also going to talk about both their features and specs, talk about their output, what they come with and what I like about them!
I'm always getting asked about my lighting setup for my RU-vid, TikTok and Instagram videos, so here it is! Most of the time, I'm just running a one light setup but if you want to level up your videos, adding a second light like the SmallRig RC220B can make a huge difference!

❤ I just started shooting food. My Godox sl200iii tends to tone pink in images. Do you think I should return it and go Small Rig 220b?

Hi, how do you connect these up to a battery source? As a Newbie who wants to take this out to shoot outdoor content it’s quite confusing as to which battery will power this, with what mount and what connector etc. Thanks

Is the 220D usable for studio photography (using shoot through umbrella for example) versus speedlites?

Answering this is based on how you shoot but in general the answer would be no, the reason you're asking this indicates you don't really understand how speedlites work in comparison to a continuous light. You can think of light like water and each pixel on your sensor as being a bucket, for you to have proper exposure means each pixel has to have received enough light over the period of time that said pixel was exposed. Continuous light is a steady stream, which means if you shorten your shutter time by 2 then the amount of light reaching a pixel goes down by 1/2. Since these lights are made for video shooting, the shutter speed we can expect would be roughly 1/50 or 1/60 of a second. This would be on the slower end for flash photography since in general you are trying to eliminate motion blur. Speedlites in contrast flash the entirety of their output in a period of time far shorter than the shutter speed you are going to use on your camera, which means that regardless of your shutter speed (as long as you are below flash sync), you will get the same exact exposure. If you go above flash sync it gets still more ridiculous, if you end up using shutter speeds of 1/4000 or 1/8000 of a second you basically will see pure darkness with this kind of video light. TLDR, if you are photographing something where you can have a slow shutter speed, these are fine, especially if nothing moves then your shutter speed could be unlimited. If you want to freeze motion, then no.

@@CarthodonYeah, well, I knew all that. I was asking about these particular lights with respect to their output power. I normally use speedlites.

@@bme7491 if you knew that, then you can figure it out yourself because he told you the lux. Either you understand how to calculate with that number for your needs or you do not.
