Here is a clip from Smallville when Lois tries to get her new engagement ring noticed and she recieves a letter from Chloe Smallville Season 10 Episode 11
@icon0777 Oh, but Clana did get in the way of the plot. Clark looked pathetic whining over her all the time and it made him look like he could never be Superman. But now with Chloe's guidance and Lois' support, you can totally see him as the Man of Steel!
I always felt like the woman who played Lois (forgot her name) could have played Sailor Jupiter in a live action Sailor moon movie, She just has those characteristics.
Erica Durance.. and now that you mention it, I can see it. However, most live action movie adaptions from anime were pretty cringy, yet - so I'm not too sure if I actually would like to see that ^^''
@icon0777 ~ Thx for responding to me :) Sadly, I thought they were too co-dependent b4 S9. AFTER she found out his secret, their friendship seemed solely about HIS life & HIS secret; NOT healthy in my book. She became singularly focused on him! I didn't understand why he wasn't allowed to have other friends ?? Pete left & Lana wasn't really his friend after S4. She was obsessed with his SUPER-HERO status to the point of putting him above everyone in her life and getting involved in the JL.
@icon0777 ~ yes, I agree; they do have a lot going in S10. A lot of Superman related plots. I found the earlier Clana stuff boring and TOO much like a teen soap :( I guess, I'm more interested in Superman... so that's the difference. I did feel like the Chlark friendship, maybe didn't detract from story-lines, but detracted from Clark, since he wasn't allowed to think for himself... Superman never NEEDED a sidekick. That to me, really took me out of the story and were it was SUPPOSED end up!
Fate... what a cruel answer... true love IS about meeting the right person at the right time... why do they have to make Clois sound so forced?! First love is important... but most of the time, not the love of our lives...why couldn't the writers nail this point?!
I don't see the problem with Clois being fate. Remember, fate has been mentioned as early as S1E6, the episode where the old lady could see people's future by touching them. Time hasn't been meddled with, so that means what she sees is ultimately their fate. Also, in Absolute Justice, Dr Fate tells Lois about being the one the saviour (Clark/Superman) is going to need and vice versa. Therefore, it wasn't a theme they just pulled out of the hat to push Lois & Clark together and wasn't forced IMO.
@luckyjasonfan If you accept that the point of Smallville is to show how a young Clark Kent evolved into Superman, then I think you would need to see Clark overcome enough of his demons to where you can envision him in the costume even if you don't see it at the end of the series. Time spent on Clois is an affirmation that Clark can be sustained by the people he is destined to protect. Darkseid/Lex are here to force Clark to shed the Blur cocoon, and his doubts, to fully embrace his powers.
@luckyjasonfan I think Clark's not flying is tied to inner turmoil, and it is that turmoil that is keeping him from becoming Superman. I think the presence of Darkseid is a challenge to Clark to get his head completely in the game and to leave his doubts behind. I think if we see Clark take control of his flying powers, we will say he is ready to become Superman. As to your other point about the show losing its way. I will post another response.
@luckyjasonfan This was probably before your time, but the term JUMPING THE SHARK refers to an episode from Happy Days (A sitcom about life in a small Wisconsin town in the 50s that aired from the mid 70s to the early 80s) where a main character jumped a motorcycle over a shark tank, which many people identified as the moment the show lost credibility and ratings.
@daeuri ~ LOL Okay, I've heard the term and yes, I've seen Reruns of Happy Days :) but I didn't know the reason behind the reference, so THANK YOU! My family was discussing when LOST jumped the shark. NOW, I know the origin of the phrase... that is freakin' hilarious... thanks so much for tell me this :-) Good to know! I was trying to understand/ determine when SV went far off script, like other shows have done; but to me, it's way more like SUPERMAN than it was in seasons 5-7. Oh, well.
luckyjasonfan Totally agree. Seasons 5-7 were a hot mess. I still can't get over the fact that Clark was supposed to start his training in season 5 and got around to actually doing it at the beginning of season 9. Oliver even criticized him for only using his powers to bale hay and yet he stayed in the farm the entirety of season 7. Sheesh
@luckyjasonfan I don't think anyone, at the beginning, would have thought that this show would have lasted ten seasons. That said, at least two seasons worth of shows could have been eliminated and maintained the narrative core of the story. The Clana storyline deserved a better and more succinct ending than it got. Fewer freak of the week episodes. Doomsday was a premature waste of a good villain (He is a Superman foe to be sure). I am sure you have suggestions as well.
@icon0777 ~ rotflmao... your comment made me laugh... in a good way. Very clever wording... but what do you mean about "jumped the shark"? When and how did the show do that in this clip? Just curious :)
Smallville was definitely well written in first few seasons. I am watching season 10 here on TV and not enjoying any bit of it. Every woman is talking about Clark Clark Clark and he doesn't come across that impressive or deserving of that attention and support. I am slightly impressed with Green Arrow. Thats good addition to the series. I miss Lana though.
Lois: Why didn't Lana and Clark's relationship work out? Chloe: Well you know, Lois Lane is supposed to end up with Superman in the comics... Lois: What the hell are you talking about cuz? Had the conversation been like that, at least there would have been some comic relief. As it stands, season 10 (and 9) are the two seasons I never rewatch. The reasons they gave for Clark ending up with Lois is totally lame. Every problem he had with Lana, he really still has with Lois, but for some reason they just end up together.
Anonymous Unknown that's a matter of opinion. The majority of the fandom would disagree with you though. Erica Durances portrayal of Lois Lane is considered to be either best or second best by many a publication. Now since I assume you're a Clark and Lana shipper, you're opinion is probably biased, so based on that I'm not sure if this discussion can be an intelligent one.
I like how you assume that I'm biased without first admitting that yourself. To be honest, anyone that claims that Lana is attention seeking, two faced, and selfish clearly does not have strong comprehension skills. If you actually watched the seasons carefully, you'd realize that Lana is most certainly not attention seeking, and her selfishness and darkness all grew out during seasons 5-7 for understandable reasons, and anyone who would actually call her a "brat" is clearly very obviously biased. And no, it's not my opinion that Lois is boring. It's fact. There's a reason the ratings dropped to its lowest point in Season 9 after Lana (and Lex) left permanently. Like Lana, Lex is also "two faced" and "selfish" for understandable reasons, and likewise, that's exactly what makes him and Lana so interesting to watch. I'm afraid your perception of ED's portrayal of Lois being good is nothing more than fantasy at best, and the only reason why you think majority of fandom agree with you is because most people who think she's boring have left the show a long time ago with Lana and Lex's exit.
Anonymous Unknown Anonymous Unknown lmao! You're delusional! You don't think that Lana going after Lex as a rebound after Clark broke up with her is attention seeking behavior? I certainly do. And I'm sorry, I don't think it's understandable that she became this dark character in seasons 5-7 all because "Clark broke her heart." You don't go from being a sweet small town girl to threatening people's families over a broken heart. That's called a mental problem, and I'm pretty sure she doesn't have a mental problem, which leads me to believe that she was always this way, but wants people to believe that she is this sweet small town girl. And she's been two faced from the very beginning. She gets so angry with Clark and everybody else for keeping secrets, yet she constantly kept secrets of her own, as if she was immune to her own secret keeping rule. I wonder how angry Lana would have been at Chloe if Chloe had been the one to snoop through Lana's computer, instead of the other way around. Face it, Lana's been shady since way before season 5. As far as Lois being "boring," that is most definitely an opinion. Lois revitalized interest in the show when she showed up in season 4. She's a fan favorite and beloved character, and you can argue ratings all you want (which partially has to do with a timeslot change by the way) but the reality is that people did watch and come back to the show for Lois and Clark. Your argument that "people who stopped watching because she's boring left the show" isn't a very good one, considering that they probably have the same bias that you have. Now if you think I'm biased, that's fine, but at least I can back up my claims about Lana with examples. I'd love to see you make an argument for how "boring" Lois is. If what it takes to be an interesting character is to make them a crappy person, then I probably wouldn't watch any TV or movies. The most interesting Lana has ever been was in season 4 when she was possessed by Isabelle. And that wasn't even her, that was Isabelle, which only proved that the fundamental problem was with the character, and not with Kristin Kreuk, who did the best she could with an inconsistent character. i hated the way they ended Lana's character, but at least it's poetic in showing that she was a toxic to Clark. She couldn't even tell Clark apart from Bizarro after living with him for a month. Lois on the other hand was able to tell Clark Kent and Clark Luthor apart in less than 30 seconds. Lois is better for Clark than Lana, the show speaks for itself. Now if you want to ignore that, that's up to you, but this is the internet, and in this realm, it's fair game to have these discussions.
