God I hope i don't end up crazy like this insane toy maker. And damn Lex way to rip a man's soul out. Did he plan this the whole time or was it just some genius Luthor reaction. Patreon: LostGamerReactions
I think he meant to absorb kryptonite himself when he had the nanites. That way he knew he could kick Clark's ass. When Lana stole his shit he had to come up with a backup plan. That's my thoughts on it but they never say for sure. Now Lana's perfect for Bizarro Clark.
I've always loved Clana, but ever since Lois showed up, I've been waiting for her and Clark to end up together. Clark and Lana, being together and then breaking up every now and then, gets boring eventually. Especially when you rewatch the show on multiple occations. But this episode brings me to tears every time, especially the ending.
For me Clana was over when Lana started dating Lex. There are some things you can't go back from and for me it was dating and marrying Clark's friend. Because of that relationship everything changed between Clark and Lana. I was happy to leave Clana in the past, 7 seasons of them was enough 😊 but the execution was meh.. could have been better
I agree. I thought the relationship was built on a rocky foundation from the jump honestly. Emotionally cheating on Whitney and string him along. Begging for a secret while with someone else. Always playing victim. That lex shit was the nail in the coffin so anything after I had no interest at all.
A huge problem I had with Clana was all the constant back and forth over 7+ seasons. All of the breaking up then getting back together felt incredibly disingenuous and made them impossible for me to connect to as a couple. But also, their romance felt kind of cringe to me at times and came across as unhealthy and obsessive. With Clois, it was a natural progression every season starting when she showed up in Season 4 all the way through Season 10. Lois' role started small, but slowly gained momentum as the series progressed and the relationship she had with Clark was built up methodically over time. It's literally in my top 5 romances in TV history. On top of all the chemistry between Welling and Durance, the actual writing for Clark and Lois was perfect, which is rare for even some of the best relationships on TV shows. Even though Clana technically had a longer relationship on the series, whenever I think of Smallville, the main 2 relationships I think of are Clois and Clex.
Thank you so much Dev for your authentic reactions to this show. I didn't watch this episode when it originally aired (I was in University and had no time to watch anything). So watching these episodes for the first time as a grown ass women ...believe me when I say, no scene on TV has ever made me bawl my eyes out like this last scene with Clark and Lana just did. Wish it didn't have to go down like that, but Lex is an evil genius and he made so they could physically never be together. Kudos to Tom and Kristin for how brilliantly they acted every scene together and really made us believe in their love story, and to the writers too! Like damn, to be able to carry that level of chemistry and for so long! ( 8 straight seasons, and we bought into every single time!). Most shows can't even make a love story last a single season let alone 8, and have it still be believable. Sorry for the long comment, but this episode had me so in my feelings I just had to get it out. Now I need to go watch Lucifer season 3 with a grown up Tom in it, or Burden of Truth with Kristin just so I can get their sad faces out of my mind. 😭💔 Thanks for that Smallville!
After all this time I’m not sure how I feel about the way Lana was written out, I know she had to go to make way for Lois and Clark but the way it happened can be interpreted as Clark chose Lois only by default because he literally couldn’t be near Lana, I know that’s not the case but it can be misinterpreted that way to some.
But that really is the reason though. After Lana leaves, Clark just forgets about her and moves to lois by default. Lana is truly the love of his life.
@@TheMarine316 That's fine if you don't, but personally, I definitely would. I mean, Clark knew Lana years before the first episode. It was said that Clark had liked her for a long time. He was always trying to get with her, even when she was with Witney. Clark also seemed to be more energetic around her than lois, and seemed to smile a lot more often. He volunteered at places simply because she was there. Even when he looses his memory, he falls in love when he sees her again. And when he proposed to her in season 5, it just felt much more loving than when he proposed to lois. The writers wrote Lana as the love of his life, and made it so they always chose each other time and time again, so the only real way for them to be separated was if Clark literally couldn't be around her without getting killed from kryptonite.
themarine0316 i don’t find that true or see it that way at all. people misinterpret it that way because they’re convinced that somehow clark and lana would have lasted in a happy relationship if it weren’t for their forced separation, and that’s where they are wrong. lana and clark were always meant to end and never brought out the best in one another. clark didn’t develop a relationship with lois/settle for her just because lana left, we know his character better than that. he’s with lois because he’s in love with her and she’s the love of his life, no amount of history with lana is going to change that. like most clois fans, this whole notion that clark is only with lois because he has to be doesn’t concern me or make me unsure. i’m confident that clois has developed because clark choose her, she’s what he wants, she’s what he needs, and he would keep choosing her over and over again no matter who came in their way.
I'd prefer to see Lana back not in a romantic way with CK. Their relationship is toxic and last too much. And the end is ridiculous. They could end up their relationship in a good way but they preferred to do this kryptonite shit. The relationship wasn't working like for years, they don't need kryptonite to end this.
I agree, a lot of fans feel like the writers did not handle this story arc well. It could have been done a lot more definitively and could have had better closure, and a great way to do that would have been to see them change to friends. It would have been more respectful of both the relationships AND the characters... Clark, Lana and Lois. Then fans would be less inclined to bash one relationship or the other.
Totally agree. This was not a closure and the writers screwed this up. By not giving this a proper real ending (they becoming friends eventually for example or simply concluding together it does not work, let’s move on), they made it look as if Clois exists as a plan b because this kryptonite shit did not “allow” Clana to happen (and if Lana would apear in the future cured he would leave Lois for her), what everyone who had always followed Superman story (and not only learned it with this show) knows is not true. Lois was created as Superman/Clark’s soul mate/primary love interest (not a plan b), so the writers there messed up the true story of Superman, probably just not to upset Clana fans in the show. They should have instead sticked to the real comics Superman story and made clear leaving Lana behind was not forced on him, but a normal development of a relationship like many others that have an end, and Lois was not a consolation for not getting who he “truly wanted” but is actually his choice and the love of his life. It would make it more aligned with Superman and would have given more credibility to the show as a whole too.
@@lessismore8533 I think it was a nice circle for Lana to go from perfect innocent damsel in distress to powerful yet flawed hero (she went through a lot!) but to each their own. I found it interesting for Clark to have to debate Lana's more intense darker side. I think they could have found a way to stay together but her change also showed maybe they were different enough that he would eventually need to move on to Lois. At the very least I liked this more than the stuff in the middle seasons for Lana which did drag.
By this time almost every single Smallville fan was more than sick of Clana. They could and should have just had him tell Lana he had moved on with Lois, but that wouldn't have been as tragic or as ironic as having her infected with Kryptonite. Very sad ending for the Lana character. I feel very bad for Kristen Kreuk because she really got pitched the absolute worst storylines, especially in her last couple of seasons. It could have been so much better and a lot more dramatic, had they the guts to have killed off the Chloe character like they had played with earlier in the show, then Lana could have filled that trusted friend roll and gotten much better storylines and arcs. Allison was their go to, to rattle off reams of dialog and story and the producers got used to that. Missed opportunity. It would have been very interesting to have had more Lana and Lois interactions. Over all it was still better than almost any sci fi show previous (with your few genere defining exceptions like Trek and Twilight Zone) and I still haven't found a show that stacks up as better as a whole on repeat viewing or more entertaining. Smallville came around at the perfect time when special effects were cheap enough with newer technology to look truly Amazing and you had a new Network WB/CW that was willing to keep paying for those special effects and keep it running. The show only ended because Tom Welling thought season ten was a good number to end it on, and he was right. It was perfect. For all it's flaws, Smallville was a perfect show that kept you wanting to tune in ever single week. There are really not many bad episodes just about ever one is entertaining and I still always enjoy watching them again every once in a while, despite the real life drama of some of the actors. Nothing takes away from it, the show was just that good. Seasons 4 on after Lois was added just knocked it out of the park for me.
Yeah glad you said “almost every smallville fan”. I personally love Clark and Lana, I was never a fan of Lois because of that annoying personality she has. I like to make believe Clark and Lana ended up together instead of Lois.
It was in no way almost every smallville fan. Clana was adored by a huge part of the smallville fan base and they were the heart of the show for a LOT of people.
Don't act like if you had a girl like Lana in your life you wouldn't stay with her lol. Clark has always been in love with Lana, and even though their were some sparks with Louis, its not like they were ever a thing. I don't blame Clark for going with Lana at this point because he knows she is in love with him as much as he is with her, and things like that are hard to come by even if they are in a weird relationship. As for the end, thats really screwed up what Lex did.
"Its not like they were ever a thing" Really? If that was untrue, Clark wouldn't have married Lois. As a Clana fan I admit this. The writers knew they had to follow the comics but they wrote the Lana story like it was more than Clarks first crush. They wrote it like Clana was supposed to be endgame. Theyre mistake.
@Dante Eldante...Yeah everything can look lighter and brighter when you don't have to deal with the emotional ups and downs of REAL love. Also...Clark and Lana's relationship was not toxic. It was very real and beautiful for both of them. If they could be together without any major negative consequences they would. It was always the outside forces that kept them apart at times and made the relationship look "toxic". PS: LANA, not Lois, made Clark the superman that he became.
"Toxic" or "not toxic" whatever you wanna call it, it wasnt healthy. Too much drama with the Clark secret thing. Then love triangle issues. Then a bad ending with the Kryptonite thing on Lana
In a fairness, Clark was drawn to Lois fir reasons that were probably just as important as Lanas. According to the comics, Lois is his soulmate. Lanas done great things for Clark but so has Lois. Lana may have had an advantage meeting Clark before Lois did. They each brought things to the table bjt again, they had to follow the comics
I wonder if this ending was symbolism that they never belonged together cause with kryptonite being in her system, on the pilot she had a kryptonite necklace that kept clark from her as well. I could just be reaching but its just a thought.. i also think they shouldnt have brought Lana back. When she broke up with him on camera that was healthier than the kryptonite thing. Yea clark never got a rightful goodbye by her ending it on a videotape but at least they both could carry on loving each other from afar. They didnt need kryptonite to keep them apart. It was an exhausting on and off relationship. With it ending like that, it felt like Clark only chose Lois by default because he couldnt have Lana. Really hated that they brought Lana back.
Yeah when they brought Lana back, Clark should’ve willingly broke up with her. Because the way it happened he was still madly in love with her and he only settled for Lois. Clark could never see how toxic Lana became, so maybe making her literal poison was the best thing for him. But at least Clark willingly chose to make her poison to him for the greater good. He sacrificed his love and personal happiness to save the Daily Planet, which showed he was a true hero.
@@dynaguy3 I suppose that does make him a true hero to sacrifice that. I just wish he and lois got more screen time together. The lana thing was long drawn out and boring after a while.
The whole thing of Lex being in a moving truck driving around was definitely one of the huge misses for the writers. I never liked it. It would have made more sense just to have him be presumed dead and be underground until they wanted to use him again.
At this point I just want Lana to bugger off I feel like her story should have been finished at the end of season 6 . Season 7 was pushing it dragging it out into season 8 is just ridiculous 😂🙈
BeyondEnchantment that’s not true, the entire season 1 cast signed for 7 seasons, after season 7 both Rosenbaum and kreuk decided to move on once their contracts were up but kreuk came back as a guest star in season 8
Olivia Rogers hii i just wanted to know who is lori? I only watched smallville and like the arrowverse so im not really big on all the comics and everything. So if you dont mind explaining lol could u?
That’s what makes their relationship both beautiful and tragic. I knew they weren’t meant to be but watching them fight so hard to be together was such Romeo and Juliet 😭 she will always be the one that got away
Because of the simple fact that Smallville always wrote Clana as the lead couple/endgame/soulmates, this was the only way to actually keep them apart... to make them star-crossed lovers. Because no matter what, they choose each other time and time again, forgive each other time and time again, save each other every time. So Lex took that choice away from them and won... But Clark and Lana left this scene both saying "I love you" and nothing ever changed that. Because you can't take away love. This is what cements Clana as my OTP and Lana as my favorite character of all time. Because after her own fight with rage and victimhood, she is able to say "Life is so precious, so beautiful and to be able to protect that is a beautiful thing" and she is able to keep Clark from spiraling when he wants to kill Lex (the same person who hurt her so much). She's been through it. She's wanted to make Lex suffer. But she made the choice to be better. To do good. Lana is a hero. And Clark and Lana will always love each other. ..This scene makes any other Clark or Lana ship look pathetic. It's sad. Lana said their destiny was not written in some book in the future, yet here it is: the only reason Clana could never be together this time was because of a comic book mythology that says CK ends up with a different LL (and Kristin's contract). Sooo romantic and exciting, that is. 🙄🙄🙄 Anyway, this is my last video I'll be watching, at east for a while. I can't watch the show after this point. And I know I'm not the only one.
As much as people want to see Lois play the love interest for Clark in the next episodes! After 7.5 years of watching Clark and Lana together! It is difficult to be invested in his new relationship! I do feel the same way but I love your reaction to the vid so I am going to keep watching! 😂
Of course you won’t be watching after this like the most of Lana’s fans. And then they have the face to tell Lois is second choice, that they don’t buy the relationship etc, when they didn’t even watch the Clois romantic development!!! I understand really it’s their only way to keep their clana dream alive LOL! Get over it Lana people, Lois IS the love of Clark’s life, said for the kriptonian itself, he married her and had two kids with her!!! So beautiful!!
That is so not true. I’m a Clana fan who watched until the end of the show because I wanted to see what happened to Clark. Even though I’m happy Clark found love with Lois it’s still hard to jump on the Clois band wagon after eight years of Clana vs two years of Clois.
@@bonibubel In the comics mabey, but definitely not in Smallville. Lana is always Clark's first choice. If not for kryptonite poison, Clois wouldn't even exist.
@BeyondEnchantment Actually, it's you Lana haters who are delusional. Face it. Clark simply doesn't love lois the way he loved lana. The only thing that kept their relationship so problematic was simply Clark constantly lying and pushing her away when all their relationship needed was honesty. Other than that, they were good friends who knew that the other was a good noble person. Again, it was only the lies from Clark that kept them from being great together.
Best thing in this episode is that the show got rid of Lana's abnoxious character.. the show literally became brighter afterwards, even the Zod season is brighter.
Lex's plan was quite diabolical here. Yes, I'm thinking he did make a plan. If there was one thing he was good at doing, it was playing people's weaknesses and devising strategies and contingencies with them to his advantage. This was a hard episode to swallow. I didn't like what Oliver did, not to mention this just brought back all that Clana baggage I thought was finally done. I'm sorry, but worst episode of S8 for me.
