The Smart Airspeed Indicator (patent pending) was conceived by Barry Schiff and combines a real-time stall-speed indicator (the red needle) with a conventional airspeed indicator (white needle).
When i was a full time CFI, about 1992, i started taping a blue line on the Vglide of all Cessnas, Pipers and Grummans i used to teach on. I taught turnbacks from initial climb partial power from 400 agl on and double that with no power, accel stalls and 50 feet engine fails too. Some put me down. F them. i saved 3 airplanes that way, as far as i know. And me too. I called those maneuvers as.. "Emergency Low Maneuvering".
Jay of ELM channel above was my CFI in 1994. I really liked those color indicators. He use to call them Flight Indicators because the indicated max banks on them and when flaps were needed and minimum speeds too.
My CFI in 1996 put a line on flaps needed speeds, a blue line on airspeed indicator Vglide speed, and an A on Va speed. Each line had a maximum bank to it.. Nice.. You didnt need to remember the 10 speeds that are not shown on ASI. The more indicators, the better it is. Just look and see if needed flaps at that speed, Needed to bank no more than specified to avoid stalls, and Va mark to protect from those overspeeds in turbulence.
We have that on the jet I fly, its integrated onto the speed tape to constantly show wherever 1.3Vs is. I think Rockwell Collins might have beaten you to the punch
