As I try to get to grips with the noises coming from the back of my Smart Car, I decided to remove the drive shaft. The drive shaft featured in the video was obtained from Smart Tune.
I wasn't sure, a subscriber suggested it might be the fault. It was good advice, but it didn't solve the problem. Another subscriber has suggested the engine mounts might be the problem, so I am currently changing those.
👋🏻Have you checked all the rear suspension bushes? If perished - there would be metal on metal clunking. After removing the bolt @ 3.02 - the bush does look heavily worn. Best of luck!
Thats really odd, I have just finished changing the sawy bar bushes and it had no impact. As I was driving I thought exactly the same thing, could it be the engine and transmission mounts. I think you are right and get on to it rightaway. Thank you!
@@shed52 if it is not that , then it can be the clutch plate, or pressure plate that is broken, I hope not, you can lift the car off the ground, so the wheels are free, start the car and put it in gear open the engine compartment and hear where the noise is from, hope this helps
I'm going to have a look this weekend, the drop links are really rusty so will change these and the anti-roll bar bushes, but I will now certainly check the X-frame bolts. I think you might be right, so certainly worth checking.
@@shed52 in a mad rush to get my car for the national test , i'd forgotten the xframe - made a huge racket. can't say for certain it was the same sound as you are experiencing, but very loud racket for sure. for what it is worth i have found great value out of your videos when trying to do things on my smart. ye do a great job between ye. last thing i'd say is facebook is good for a bit of feedback on issues with the car. i dislike using fb, but the uk smart car groups have professional mechanics on them and they could probably tell you exactly what is making the noise.
