No, there is no damage or harm. The only thing that can happen is to get some battery drain while the car is off. Some manufacturers keep the OBD port supplied with battery power so this will keep the OBD reader in standby, but the drain is very small.

This unit seems to be cloned and rebranded in a million models. It's mostly up to the H/W and F/W version. So if you are lucky you can get a good one like I did, otherwise it might not be ok.

The car is "started", this is the most important thing as all other OBD scanners will not work and not read any kind of info while the car runs on EV power with the internal combustion engine off. With the engine started you get the working RPM meter, while the rest of indicators such as temperature continue to work and show data even in EV mode.
