I finally found a fan speed control that doesn't break the bank and is fully locally controlled with having to add an additional hub. Meet the Martin Jerry fan speed control. It comes pre-flashed with Tasmota for easy configuration.

Great company with us local control DIY users in mind! Kauff is another great company for local control DIY!

I used a Sonoff Ifan-04 flashed with tasmota because I didn't have separate wires for the fan and the light going to my light switch location. Thanks for your video!

I think you wanted to say "is fully locally controlled WITHOUT having to add an additional hub" in the first sentence of the video description ;-)

Probably.

I also flashed a sonoff ifan3 with Tasmota to achieve something very similar - slightly different wiring as it required a separate light switch that I also flashed with Tasmota. I then separated the relay from the button on the light switch - single press speed 1, double press speed 2, triple press speed 3. Hold down turn off. Ifan also has an 433mhz remote for WAF.

@@mostlychris Have you considered making a video on setting up multiple networks for security? I was looking for a video to recommend to someone and I'm not really thrilled with the options. I don't want to do a video for that myself. 😆

@@jmr I have not. I wonder if that would be interesting to most on the channel. It can get quite complicated.

@@mostlychris I'm sure you have a better idea of your audience then I. Maybe a community poll or something?

Great content, can you configure this switch to turn on the fans light, by, say a double press or something? I only have one box on my fan switches.
@mostlychris
@mostlychris Год назад
There is no double press option on this switch so it won't work that way. There are some combo dimmer and on/off switches that zooz makes. Don't use a dimmer switch for a fan though! The zooz is light dimmer combined with fan on/off.

Does the switch spoken about in the video support 230 V?
@carltonwbrooks
@carltonwbrooks Год назад
Is there anything similar that contains a light swith as well. All of my fans in the house have lights and the original switch was a single swith that turned on the fan as well as the light. I replaced them with a Treatlife switch and flashed with Tasmota. The new switches I have found have a not so easily flashable new chip, so I want to replace them.
@mostlychris
@mostlychris Год назад
If you can find them, innoveli has some nice ones. I have seen some zoon switches that are dimmer and fan on/off. There is no speed control though.

thanks for the video i need to get one of these switches, question what is the fan itself set to, I assume the high setting?
@rasbe6863
@rasbe6863 Год назад
For it to work for me, I had to put it on the high setting with the pool chain and then it adjusts the speed from there. The speeds aren't exactly low, medium and high but they're pretty close. I think it just depends on the quality of the fan
@garysteo3398
@garysteo3398 Год назад
@@rasbe6863 that’s what I figured. Thank you
@mostlychris
@mostlychris Год назад
I echo RasBe's comment. Pull chain to high. In terms of fan speed, it's all relative to comfort. If it's going too fast, select a lower speed. Too slow, higher. I don't know that fans actually have RPM setting specs and the amount of air moved varies by installation type and type of blade, etc.
@rasbe6863
@rasbe6863 Год назад
@@mostlychris The only thing I wish is that there was a way to figure out how to use it with the single switch fans. I either ones that have the light and the fan on the same switch. I only able to use one of these fan controls as my master has a switch for the fan and the light. If there was a way to figure it out I would have more of them because I love them
@mostlychris
@mostlychris Год назад
@@rasbe6863 I think some of the relay type things can do this. Maybe the sonoff stuff. I haven't really investigated. Found this article thesmartcave.com/smart-ceiling-fan-control/.

z-wave fan controllers have been available for years
@mostlychris
@mostlychris Год назад
I just really got serious about them recently. What do you use?
@dmiller9786
@dmiller9786 Год назад
@@mostlychris I use one from Jasco. But Leviton, Homeseer and others make z-wave fan controllers. Most specialized controls relating to lighting/mains electrical control are z-wave. Home Assistant leaning towards zigbee is odd when considering large home automation projects.

why not ESPhome?
@mostlychris
@mostlychris Год назад
These could be flashed with ESP from what I have seen. Since it comes pre-flashed with Tasmota, I just went with that. Flashing ESP requires opening it up and figuring out the pin outs and then attaching the programming interface. Someone has probably done this, but in the interest of time, I needed to get up and running quickly.
