Sometimes when you replace a blown fuse and it doesn't blow again, see how it goes, not a lot more you can do. Several years ago I had a smart car stuck in neutral from a blown fuse, after changing the fuse it blew again on a road test, it ended up being a heated O2 sensor wire rubbing on the bumper as the engine swung a little while changing gears. Thanks Matt
Morning ! Yesterday i stumble upon your very informative channel . I watched straight for 9 hours your videos .Great Job . I have nothing to do with car repair/diagnostics at all , but so i have nothing to do with boards repair and thx to Louis Rossmann i managed to repair mine and few other macbooks .I have to say i see your channel being successful as Rossmann soon ! I love to learn and try do things by my own .So with that being said Thank you very much for all your informative content that makes ppl smarter ! I Have few questions for you and i hope when you find few minutes free to give me a hand with it . I own 2005 1.6 semiautomatic Peugeot 307 After few min of ride the "Gear Box fault" appears ,i can drive a few km more then i get electric circuit fault and then ABS , breaks and Power steering as well goes of . The Car stops and i am fucked ! No way to turn the ignition on -just a beep . What i do is wait for 10 min and i need second battery to help start the car with jumper wire . In the country where i live (im a foreigner) To find an honest mechanic is harder than finding magic mushrooms on the desert . I am planing to change the solenoids in the gearbox valve at first and change the transmission oil . It will be my first ever approach in automotive area repair . What should i look for next ? What software may be helpful do diagnose the issues ? (i have only laptop , multi meter and elm 327 Bluetooth OBD) .Please can you give me some tips ? Could the solenoids some how be related also to all the other issues ? I ll be very proud to join your patreons group as well . Than you M8 .
Start with the basics... The fact that you say the warning come up after some driving, and more pop up as you carry on driving, and then, you need to jump start it, makes me wonder if the voltage is being maintained... What i mean is, check and monitor that your alternator is charging the battery correctly, and supplying the 14v when running and driving... It is just a guess, based on what you said... Hope it helps! I do follow Rossman as well, don't watch every video, but like his channel! Thank you for subscribing to mine, and watch my videos! Really appreciated! 👍👍👍
Had the excact same thing the other week on a breakdown I attended. Checked the amp's being pulled after I replaced the fuse and nothing excessive. The guy was desperate to drive home so he got himself some 10A fuses and off he went.
one car i found had a square type 30a fuse witch was blown and some one just opened fuse cap and bent two pieces of metal inside so the fuse would work but it would disconnect after a while when driving and car would not start, but later when car was cold it started just fine. So glad that i just inspected the fuses.
Thank for another great vid my trick to stop wasting fuse is adapt a blown fuse with a bulb on each pin . If there is a short bulb full brightness if circuit Good a small glow. Works best on wiggle test maybe good then bad
Usually this error is either the Brake light relay or the fuse that powers that circuit. The car will prevent it's self from going into gear if there's a problem with the brake system.
Hi I have problem with my gearbox on smart forfour is sami automatic when is cold is go on every gear after 100 miters is lost 2 gear and reverse any idea what it is thanks
Thank you for another great video Can you make episodes about hyprid and electrical cars and how can we fix them i like your videos so much and trust everything you say to us because you are the best in this field
I had this model with the same issue ,the dealer replace the shifting motor, then I investigate the motor and all the brushes inside where contaminated with carbon from the contacts of the rotor and oil from inside the gearbox. I clean all this gunk and resold the motor, the person who both it from mr didnt have any issues.
ilooked at one of these a while back for a misfire on number 3 cylinder. All the time the fault was active it would continualy loose drive and not come out of neutral. The drive indicator would go blank..After fixing the misfire and clearing the codes it drove perfectly. No more transmision issues. Must have been a failsafe condition to stop you driving with a fault
I have a 2004 w454 with a new gear sensor which I have been unsuccessful in putting it into the gearbox for me to do the teach in. WIS doesn't have documentation for that particular issue. Only photo of a tool for aligning the sensor. How do I replace the sensor
What fuse saver do you have? I have searched forever for an IPA pulsar, but no luck. Maker promised a newer version but nothing so far. I need something with current limiter.
I had the same issues whereby the gear selector was stuck in neutral. My independent smart garage used the STAR diagnostics which came back as a broken brake light switch which also disengages the gear selector, unsure why this is but they replaced the switch and the car works fine now. If anyone can confirm the above sounds correct to stop me worrying in case it’s something else then I’d appreciated your feedback.
Thank you for another great video!!! Just watched part two of this video. The owner should've gone to automatic gearbox specialist first. I bet it would be general reapir :)
@@LMAutoRepairs of course not, sometimes we need to spend so much time finding... just blown fuse as main problem without other issues ;) I will stay tuned waiting for more interesting cases :)
I had the same problem last week, the guy that repairs my car said it was the gearbox and that it had to be replaced… He said that a new one cost 3500 euro, but he will buy a sh one with 300 E, the car works now but i am very confused… Was that a lie? Or am I the one with bad luck? I had the same simptoms, the abs was one, i could only drove the car in 1 and 4 gear… 😑
Hello @LM Auto Repairs, Hello friends, please i need help, I just bought a 2007 Smart 451 Diesel, When I start it there is the yellow engine light that stays on (1 time out of 5), On the other hand, when it stays on, the car apparently goes into Safe mode (Security) and therefore no function works, nor the change of gears, nor acceleration. I decided to change the actuator (the speed actuator) I bought a cheap one on Cdiscount without brand, Apparently it does not come from there, I changed the gearbox computer, it does not come from that either, I carried out a Mercedes diagnosis at a Smart Mercedes specialist in Marseille, the gearbox update etc. ... failed and the faults that come out are: P0805 “Clutch System Fault” (current in memory) P1700 "Resisting torque at gearbox input (current in memory) P1800 "Implausible gearbox data (current and stored event). Something else, The car sometimes starts cold and stops like it doesn't have enough power, so I cleaned the EGR valve, put it back in and it wouldn't start, I had to redo it started with a start pilot spray can, Then it worked normally, but yesterday it went out again when I started (cold engine), infact sometimes I have to accelerate a little so that it stays started (but only when cold on the first start) I should mention that I changed the glow plugs too. Anyway, my real problem is that famous yellow engine light that prevents me from driving when starting, I also specify that the Diagnostics guy, to find a method so that the light goes out when it is on just to drive, he plays with the gearbox by switching to R, N, D, 1 quickly several times in a row, and when he does this the light disappears, the engine speed changes (we feel like a slight acceleration), and then, once the yellow engine light is off, I can drive... Please help me, because I'm afraid to change the clutch unnecessarily, especially since the car is only 60,000 kilometers old. Thanks very much.
Hello mate, I’ve got a issue with eco mode, it does not go green never and sometimes it’s flashing orange and when it does it gives you shocks while driving when changing gears. Its a 2009 smart 999 litres petrol.
is this the same car you done Flashed and update the software ? i have the same car no warning lights but no gears no other lights. everytime i puy into gears the N lights starts flashing..
As I already said, would have to start to dismantle stuff... what if I couldn't find the issue? How would I charge? Sometimes you need to leave it, until either happens again, or completely fails, and then you obviously chase the issue down... Thank you for watching and for your comment!
@@liviu2004 Oh I know... I am not trying to be funny, I am just also saying that sometimes you need to make decisions based on other things... In this case, I though it could be a long chase... lol So I told the owner to take the car, and see what happens... The great with the comments section, is that engages people in discussions and exchange of ideas and opinions... 👍👍👍
Hey from Poland, i have the same situation and before to check fuses i have bought new VSS vehicle speed sensor from P0500 fault and still the same, so i need to run tomorrow for check fuses 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙈Thank U for move help
@@LMAutoRepairs hello Mr. Few minutes ago i have checked fuses and one was burned, 25A natural color in position nr 14 and this fuse is responsible just for ESP. I have smart 450 from 1998. I was so happy that i have found this broken fuse but when i changed for new fresh fuse, it just blows up 🙈I have some problem in this position nr 14 ESP, some Short circuit. Maybe do You have some little idea what i should check at first, next?It is very old Smart called PepiTo but i like Himnvery much, Thank U 😀
That fuse accordingly to diagrams, seems to feed the ESP module directly... So, you either have a short somewhere between the fuse and the module, or a internal short on the module itself...😬 Good luck... 🤞
Exactly had the same problem…. Changed a lightbulb and a fuse blown up ! OBD reader said it was the brake switch, ABS and other stuff and it was the stop fuse !!!! When blowing up, it also « freezes » the brake switch and you just can’t switch gears anymore…. How dreadful
@@LMAutoRepairs btw do you have an idea of WHY changing a lightbulb makes a fuse blowing up? Would that be due to the ground conductor? I googled this and I’m not the only one… would that be a manufacturing issue?
@@LMAutoRepairs thanks for your reply. It's the same issue as the video, tried replacing the fuse but nothing happened. It gear doesn't stays on on 2 and jerks forward when I push the throttle down and then switches off
Dreadful video. The first one of yours where I thought you only did half a job. The fuse should be 10A but was replaced for a 15A and even that blew. You then did minimal inspection and just replaced the fuse again. 15A is serious current and I'd want to find out where the true fault is.
Well, I put in the end the right 10amp fuse... Now, what would you do? Dismantle half of the car? If was acting up, yes, I would obviously chase it down... Now, I could spend 2 or 3 hours, or a full day chasing the problem, to find nothing... How would you charge the customer? £100 to replace a fuse? Or take the loss? You need to know when to give up... Again the fuse was replaced with the correct one, if the problem still there, it will come back...😉 Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Is that the same car u fixed the gearbox in before those semi automatic gearboxes are crap . Why would you buy a smart car when you could get a yairs VW up or Nissan micra that has more room looks better and is built to last PS they all have nice interior
