The judge didn’t call out one bad thing the mother was doing. You don’t call your child a dumb ass and then toss out living animals and lie about it to the police like she never lived there. JM was way too bias in favor of the mom

That young lady is gorgeous but I can tell abuse is something that she’s clearly used to. I hope she gets away from all the people in her life that are awful and learns self worth. The judge was way to dismissive.

Judge Mathis do you know that parents and family can abuse and traumatize members of their family that they don't like? It happens every day, all around the world. You need to educate yourself on family abuse it's called gaslighting.

I was raised by a narcissist mother and this seems all too familiar. Seems like a mom that does a lot of psychological and emotional abuse and knows how to hide it well for the public so no one ever believes the daughter (like JM), so the girl rather be with the abusive guy just to get away from the mother…where she learned to accept abuse in the first place. A mother like that would pit her kids against each other as part of her psychological games which explains why the siblings don’t get along and also why that girl would have a nasty attitude growing up in an environment like that. I’ve lived this. This was disturbing to watch and see JM play into it. It’s such a mental health setback and so invalidating for narcissist survivors.

Wait, I thought judge said with month to month lease you have to give 30 days before a rent increase and 30 days notice to move out. If the mom just kicked her out that’s not a proper 30 days notice l. She breached the contract right?

She didn’t leave that first part of the text out to deceive the judge, she was trying to tell him the guinea pigs were still in her house. The mother is toxic and she started to show her true colors at the end of the episode smh.

Disrespect goes both ways, the mom seems disrespectful. Just because you’re a parent doesn’t mean you have a pass to be nasty. It’s says a lot about her, that her daughter would rather be with an abuser than her. Her mom has taught her to accept abuse because she’s emotionally abusive and probably physically as well.

5 minutes in and I knew no matter what the daughter said she would be wrong in the judge’s eyes. He was very biased and definitely didn’t uphold the law. There is never a situation where you can throw someone’s things out without 30 day notice! Idk what she did.

I think I might have also had a bad attitude if I was mistreated by my mother and brother like this. Sounds like she's the scapegoat in the family dynamic and the target for her mother's unresolved issues.

I bet this is a perpetuated generational curse. The mom went through the same thing.

I pray that this young lady just really focus and excel in life.

Judge clearly still have that old fashioned mindset. Even though kids should listen to their parents.. it’s a parent job to guide a child. Not put them down for the hairstyle and clothing they choose to wear. 18 year olds still need guidance and need to find their way. Putting them out is a guarantee that they will fall in the arms of an abuser and stay there because they were the one to “rescue” them. She really got upset that she didn’t respond within 30 min? Mom is surely bullying her and using the housing situation to combat the “disrespect”. Mom is fighting for respect. It seems like she wants the daughter to do as she wish and if not “get out” It’s really weird that people won’t put out a 17 year old.. but as soon as they legally become an adult (12 months later) they are seen as though they can all of a sudden fend for themselves. Mom set the foundation for toxicity. I hope she finds peace and that they can work on their relationship.

If my child is being abused... I doubt id be throwing out clothes and doing the most..... I'd be loving on her and showing her that she is worthy of love... i am thankful for my parents for doing so when I was in this situation... the mother seems somewhat bitter, miserable, and bitter... she favors the son and it is obvious..... no love lost because no love is here.

That’s why I don’t really take this tv judges serious, you can’t throw someone’s stuffs out period. Obviously he just wanted to make it right for “a mother” but wrong is wrong under the law. He slowly just kept moving towards every other thing but the fact that she was wrongfully evicted and her pets where thrown away

The daughter didn't think this through, but I hate when the judge picks a side early in the case, because he will detest everything the opposite side will mention. Why he didn't get on to the mother for the way she spoke to her daughter, its important mothers and daughters learn to communicate better.

My assumption: SOME Moms tend to treat their sons like royalty (especially single mothers) and she might have seen that and grew some resentment towards them hence the bad relationship with her mom and brother. Which then lead her to find love elsewhere and ended up in an abusive relationship that she’s willing to stay in because although it’s toxic, she gets love out of it somehow and she’s the main character instead of coming in 2nd. And that only made the relationship with her family worse because he’s not a good guy (the bf) and now the mom has even more of a reason to down the daughter and cause conflict between the two.

I think the judge was wrong here. The mother seems like a terrible human.

Dear Jada. If you are reading this, your mother seems toxic and it looks to me like your family has cast you in the role of the scapegoat. Growing up in that environment can be traumatizing. This entire case is biased and it made me sick. Everyone in this case ganged up on her. Mom committed tax fraud, lying on a police report, perjury, animal abuse, property damage and in my opinion is emotionally abusive to her daughter but got away unscathed?? BS! This was injustice and no amount of “disrespect” can excuse the actions of breaking the law and abusing your children. Period.

I hate when he refuses to acknowledge the mental & emotional abuse parents do to their children. That daughter's case was very valid & should've won everything she sued for when the mother lied to the judges face for perjury

I love me some JM but he be confused more than anybody about parental abuse like a parent should never try to taint a minor confidence in her self. My mother used to do the same thing. And I’m still dealing with the ramifications of said abuse.

The mother is wrong. This is exactly why generational trauma does not end. The mother wants to justify kicking her out but it’s clear the daughter was scapegoated. She has to pay rent yet she has to respond to her mom promptly or face the consequences. Adult children are becoming more and more aware that many parents confused what they thought was tough love for straight up abuse. I hope they take that awareness and become empowered with it and break that generational trauma cycle for the sake of their own kids and for the sake of healing themselves. She can love her mother from a distance and heal herself.

I believe the mother does have a poor disposition toward her daughter; however, her daughter has to understand that’s her place and her rules. She definitely knew after the first time, but decided to come back, for a second time. They probably will always have a distant relationship because both seem set in their ways

I wish this "my way or the highway" style parenting would end. When you're younger & you hear nothing but criticism & nastiness you're willing to accept that from an abusive partner in the future just so you can leave. Mom can claim credit & get a bigger stimulus bc of her daughter, it would've been good to forgive some of the rent for her based on that. Just advice for life: if you move in with a person you know is vindictive, put your stuff in storage or ask a friend to hold it temporarily

A couple minutes in, I had to go into the comments. Now I'm glad that I did. It saved me some time. That kind of family dynamic is all too familiar for me so to avoid being triggered, I opted not to watch the rest of this play out in the courtroom.

I don’t like this case, Judge was bias and should have got the mom for lying. He didn’t want that girl to win from the start, and that’s not fair.

I think she meant her daughter lacks good judgment or has poor judgment

"I wish you well, I love you." Yet she threw out her daughters belongings AND her beloved pets, then lie to the police and the court about it. The mother knew that she hadn't informed her daughter that she needed to come and get her things, she simply threw them out. That showed little regard to the daughters emotional and mental wellbeing, and if anything it showed a complete lack of respect and love for her child. It's one thing to tell a family member, especially your child, that they cannot live with you anymore and then give them an opportunity to move out, but she didn't do that. The mother is clearly a habitual liar, yet Judge Mathis was so focused on the daughter being "disrespectful" that he didn't even pay attention to the mother repeatedly lying until it was there in black and white and he couldn't ignore it anymore. The daughter not reading out a full-text message correspondence and focusing on a key point that she had previously stated was a major issue for her and a part of her court case (her pets), wasn't her lying to the court, it was simply her trying to point out that not only had her mother lied to the police that evening, but she had also lied to Judge Mathis face, and he hadn't picked up on it. He was too busy chastising the daughter for daring to be "disrespectful". Just because someone has raised you doesn't mean they're a good person or that they deserve anyone's respect.

Nowadays we have to raise our children right not kick em out as soon as they turn 18 unless the parents have taught kids about finances and bill paying because most 18 yr olds are immature and don’t know just continuing cycle of poverty
