The amount of people I've seen run across ice while forgetting that 2 legs means even more weight on one area, only to go straight into freezing water is actually insane. We might be smart but it seems that as we learn more advanced knowledge we tend to forget the basics

Considering they swim very well underwear for long distances & pop up from under ice regularly is the reason. It had no reason to do this. It can overpower the ice from above and below.
