DDD is not high risk high reward, is high risk/middling reward. He surprisingly struggles to kill with many of his most reliable moves, and is not uncommon to not kill at 150 (For a superheavy is really bad. His strongest kill moves are not applicable 90% of the time) His airgame literally loses to both disengaging (Has no airspeed so he can't follow you) and interceptions (If you know how to do it), is not even a good aerial game as far as I am concerned. What really makes this character seem better that it is is that very few people know how to abuse him and how limited it is, and at that point he requires so much work to function

@@Mattroid99 I agree that is hard to use, heavy characters tend to be like that because to priviledge speed over brute force is regular in the FGC, but the tools are not unreliable, he seems disperse cause normally characters tend to have a pocket of skills, those things that gives the character a gameplay feel and playstyle, Dedede's move set is without a doubt a heavy style character, but the tools tend to not be aligned 100% on that direction, his recovery is great for example and the air movility is slow but other heavies doesn't have neither of those (Tell me how good is the airgame or recovery of Donkey Kong or Bowser), combine that with the weight and he can endure a lot of punishment, the gordos are a good zoning tool (i can't think in little heavies that really have good zoning tools, Big boys doesn't have projectiles or manny think that contradicts the playstyle itself, how would You think about Zangief from SF or Clark from KOF suddendly having a fireball?) either as spacing or covering to land, his moves are slow but have a good deal of damage and some of them work in unorthodox ways. I Guess what i'm trying to Say is that Dedede is a hard to understand character BUT this apparent confusion of how the things are done makes the opponents to get out of their confort zone, the key for winning with him is to make it a struggle to know what are You trying to do, understanding Dedede and getting the best of him is understand that there's so much on the meta that most players don't see.

@@kaoko111 I have mained this character since 2016 with decent success, believe me when I say that this character is not underrated or with potential, he is genuinely awful (And I would say unfinished, very few characters are just incomplete in terms of design like he is). He is not hard to use, he is hard to make him function past a certain level because of how limited he is. Other heavies have better air movement and moves (Not recovery though. Probably DDD's best strength), DK for instance has great movement overall, one of the best bairs and upairs in the game, excellent nair and dair, and they flow toghether extremely well in both neutral and advantage. Bowser has one of the best sword fairs in the game, a rewarding nair that can be used rising and landing, a bair that can be comboed into and kills at 70, the best command grab in the game, and can mixup what he wants to do. DDD on the other hand has zero airspeed, and his whole gameplan in the air loses to anyone that dashes back. All his aeriasl are fine but lacking (Nair is good but has crap hitboxes, fair is slow, not safe and never autocancels, bair is f17 with a slim hitbox, upair often doesn't kill at 150, and dair is just terrible. Inhale and Gordo bring in some mixup potential but both are committal and again, DDD has no airspeed. The jumps put everything toghether but is far from sufficient (Especially vs someone that knows how to abuse it). Gordos are not a good zoning tool at all, they are fine for trapping and extending combos (And even there they have a lot of issues, DDD is a really bad trapper character too) but since they lose to almost any hitbox he will lose projectile fights all the time and cannot use Gordos for zone. Is the worst use for the move as far as I am concerned. Dealing good damage is not enough when your moveset is slow and loses to shields. The only good things about him are amazing recovery and survivability, decent mid-range mostly due to ftilt, and quite strong ledgetrapping. But even there he is extremely limited in how he wants to play; he loses to any close range engagement, long range characters, projectiles, any character that can overwhelm him with hitboxes or can run away, and he cannot force himself into good engagements because his speed is the worst in the game and doesn't have good frame data at all

I find that Fair, Bair, and maybe Nair really work because of the angle Gordo usually comes back at. Up Tilt might also work

Yeah you can actually Gordo through projectiles that would normally knock back Gordo if you time it so that the hammer hit of Gordo throw knocks back the gordo

@@itsturniptime3699 I sometimes use D-tilt since it actually covers the whole front of dedede’s body in Ultimate. In Sm4sh it was like they were high when they made the hitbox. It was almost as disjointed as f-tilt and whiffed if someone hugged you.

It also does NOTHING to shields, so you can easily just shield it.

Lately he's been moving up in the tier. Thank Zaki and Atomsk for that.

@@kaoko111 Both Dedede players have been an inspiration for my Dedede, so yeah, I'd thank both of those players for making Dedede more popular than he was back then.

Dede and Krool are my most-enjoyable Fighters to play. There's just something about them that feels so freakin' good.

Same. It's just so satisfying when you land big hits with his hammer. Krool is obviously the "better" heavyweight, but I'll always love my Dede.

It can also hit characters hanging too long on the ledge. That just works way too often.

I'm also a certified Dedede Player and I approve of your take on the funny penguin man.

I just tried the character recently and for me he is the most emotionally based character I've ever played. You have to shrug off being comboed to 70% on a regular basis. But you also set up devastating ledge traps and get the occasional very early edge guard or shield break. At a high level, I think he is a character that requires a lot of discipline and shines when your opponent loses it.

He still has the fastest fall speed, which makes me think this guy didn't consider it in his speed grading.

@@hobosorcerer He mentions it multiple times throughout the video and makes it very clear that he doesn't believe the fast fall speed is enough to make up for being sluggish everywhere else.

He needs more than that. Give all smash attacks and dash attack super armor. Might be a bit too much but it can work. I understand the Gordo, but plenty of projectiles can be used against other characters such as K Rool, Snake, etc.

Hey King D3 main here, another character that you can try is Kirby, they are very similar. Tbh the king is more of just a heavy Kirby, in a lot of aspects,. I used to main Kirby back on Wii U and 3ds but eventually when to the king, good luck and have fun
