I was REALLY starting to lose confidence with using Greninja in Ultimate because of how completely different he is now. You've given me faith to keep me from dropping him. Thank you
Dude this is so good to know. Greninja doesn't need Footstool Combos anymore because he has a Jablock Setup that allows for him to get three Jablocks in a row. Not to mention the fact Up Air String out of Dash Attack or Up-Tilt is how the Setup works. This is really clean and really good to know!:D D-Tilt looks so much better too!^.^ His Forward Throw KILLSSSSSS!!! 0_e (Edit: I wouldn't say it looks so much better because Greninja D-Tilt in Smash Wii U was a Footstool Combo starter at early percents with a pivot and with a pivot comboed into Up-Smash if angled correctly as well. His new D-Tilt looks more necessary for the mechanics of this game. I am content with the change. Thanks for the inspiration PHaZe)
At 0% Falling Nair -> Grab -> Up Throw -> DDUair -> Uptilt -> DDUair -> Uptilt -> etc. repeated This combo is so sick once you get it down. Most damage I've gotten out of it is 0-71% (30 hits). I've only used it on Donkey Kong though, so idk what other characters it would work on.
Thank you so much for this,im a past Greninja main and I was having some troubles getting used to the new Greninja, this video helped me adjust to some of his new combos, again thank you.
The pro players will always focus on what were both the worst and best characters in the past games first, because nerfing top tiers is auch and buffing low tiers can be great. The mid-tier ones are the sleeper hits. The 'gray area' characters, so to say.
I don't know if this is common knowledge for I am new to smash but If you forward B you can still jump and add vertical aiming to greninjas forward B. So if you were to knock someone in the air, you could forward B, then jump and let go. Its quite hard to jump while holding B so I rekeybound Left (shoulder) trigger to "special." With this you can forward B and then hold left trigger, letting go of B and jump. I was also able to get from one side of final destination to the other under the map with this method. If this is common knowledge then ignore it but either way great content and I hope if it helps you can use your platform to inform Greninja players! Thanks
Footstools couldnt be teched in sm4sh :/ and the tech window was doubled in ultimate, but i guess the upair dragdown can't be teched so nvm about those combos
@@PHaZeX3R0 F-air and fully-charged shuriken does feel a bit different to me, but I think (99% sure) it just might just be my imagination, is it the same?
Hey Phaze, i've been trying out these combos and i noticed my D-tilt does less damage. Combo @ 0:46 your D-tilt does 5%, while mine does 4.8% Haven't checked other moves yet but im thinking Nintendo nerfed Greninja slightly on patch 1.2.0 It is a minuscule nerf but i thought i'd let you know anyway xD Edit: checked some more of the moves and they pretty much nerfed the damage on all of his moves. Didn't notice any knockback changes, which is good.
Biggest issue I have is initiating a dash attack so quickly after a grab. All I seem to be able to do is a forward smash as the attack is meant to come out very quickly and my dash input is treated as a smash. Tips?
Nope, actually. Out of drag down up air you can run forward and dtilt, which covers 3 out of four options, and if they tech behind you can dash dance and dash attack, continuing the combo.
Grenjnja's potential is scary @-@ I wanted to main him back in 4 but never really got into it not sure If I wanna main him now because then he might be who I only play (in a good way)
I have a question how do you drag down people with up air so quickly? Like a few frames after you up air you immediatly drag them. I can only do it when I use up air and fast fall at the same time but you use it so early. Can you please explain how to do it? Example the combo at 0:10 and you up air and immediatly fall at 0:15
i want to learn greninja combos, but i have no idea how to drag down/spiking up-air. Is there an in depth tutorial, or can someone give me a quick rundown on what to do? that would be great
Right after inputting up air, fast fall by pressing down on the left stick. You’ll know when you do it right. It’s hard to get used to at first, but it’s incredibly easy afterwards. What I like to do, is press up on the c stick (right stick) and then down on the left stick. Makes it a lot easier imo
If you hit your jump button then your attack while hitting up you do a frame perfect upair, then quickly hit your left stick down, that's what I do and I have the same issue. Like Connor also said its a bit hard to get used to at first but once you have it down its easy to do on command. Hope I helped :)
So when you do the fast falling up air, do you buffer the short hop and the move at the same time or do you buffer the jump and then the move? Cuz I find it difficult to do the dragdown if i buffer both the jump and the move simultaneously.
Awesome video, but how do you fast fall Greninja’s Up Air before the last hit? If I try to just do it normally, the last hit always connect, so I just wanted to know if there was some sort of trick to it
What I reccomend to do is make sure that you are at the apex of the shorthop before throwing out the up air, If you do it too early, then you will continue to rise with the upward momentum you gained with the shorthop. This will result in all five hits connecting. If you are at the peak of your shorthop, you then have no momentum and will start to fall. then you can upair while falling and then fastfall
at what percents does downtilt connect to upsmash? I've found that it is easier to do with c stick set to smash attack but I like having it set to tilt instead.
At 0:59 how do you get that drift back ? I thought that maybe it was B-reverse and you turned around at the firsts frame of the jump but i watched frame by frame and Greninja kept looking forward
Important : Greninja's drag down up air can be teched I have tested this during a battle against a lv 9 cpu but THEY DO TECH EVERYTHING so I'm assuming the timing may be tight however They tech upon reaching the ground and not during the jab lock animation
the problem w this is that smaller characters like Pichu just don't get hit with the fair(in 7.0.0). Or maybe im just bad idk. Other than that great vid
@@idk-mf5smsame, I think they increased the jump on greninja's short hope f air. So I can't connect the f air entirely. Are you doing a fast fall f air? If not, any tips to connecting the short-hop f air?
Another good one is shfll nair shfll nair fastfall upair jab jab downtilt to upsmash. You can get it between 30-50% depending on the character and it's a 65% (!!!!) Combo
The thing is... I think this combos dont work because of the different weight of the chars, some fly higher some not e.t.c and some are to small to hit e.t.c also if often your combo meter beginns from zero, this means your opponent could use shield at this time or doge.
Noah Bernstein Nah, don’t worry about that specifically. The combo meter is completely broken. The only real way to rise it up is pummeling or multi-hitting attacks. The combo meter doesn’t track real combos lol.
Need a little help. I noticed his first Fair in the video does 14.9 and knocks back marginally, but when I try to do it, it does 16.8 and knocks back too much to combo.
I assume you mean upair, dair can't be dragged down. To dragdown upair, you need to fastfall (done by pressing down) a little bit after the move starts. It takes a little bit of practice at first. The tricky part is you can't do dragdown upair out of a rising upair, so you can't use the X+A macro. You'll need to either learn how to get the timing for a shorthop right, or you'll need to press both jump buttons, then press A. Once you do the shorthop, wait a split second, do the upair, and then press down. Practice the timing until you get it right.
@@aienjell Yeah, I was testing and I believe there's a one frame window to fastfall where you can get the dragdown up air. I'd still give advice to start with the delayed up air tho
I'm starting to really like Greninja in Ultimate. What move are you using to start most of the combos? Is it his dair? I'm new to smash if you couldn't tell lol. Thanks
Can't get the first combo to connect off of Fair, CPU keeps landing too far away??? Edit: Was apparently full-hopping instead of short-hopping without realizing it, got it to work 👍
