It may not look like it, but this video took upwards of a month and a half to make, and ironically was a labor of love. At the same time though, this is easily one of my favorite things I’ve done, and I’d love to make more content. I know this video isn’t perfect or anything, but it’s a start, and I’d love it if you guys were to give any comments for how I can improve, what you like, what you don't like, that sort of thing. I feel like Ultimate has a lack of new creators, and the games are kind of dying, so I’d love to become the start of new life being brought into this game. I’m going to try my hardest to make good content, and the content I want to make, so if you feel like it, come along for the ride.

@@cornbread3056 Imo, I think what really killed it was sort of the mindset of trying to get good at Smash on top of patch culture. I agree that Sonic and Steve enforce camping and extremely careful playstyles, but in a way I feel like the game getting patches did not help because people complain about how characters aren't getting nerfed or should be banned, yet a lot of them don't put in the effort to be as good as some of the players they dislike for their play, then wonder why Japan is on average better. It is interesting to me, but also makes complete sense as to why it happened.

@heckssoda588 DK definitely has a skill curve. Currently I’ve been maining him for 3 years so his movement is second nature, recovery is good if you know the limits, and his speed is very flexible.

Steve also lacks a LOT of the disadvantages of the Melee Top Tiers (except like Sheik but idk sheiks weaknesses) -Not insanely light like puff -Nowhere near as exploitable offstage as falcon or spacies -Not pure combo food like Space animals -Doesn't have Marth's inconsistencies in killing.

What is it with smash players saying 100 valid reasons why their game sucks ass and then they always do this stupid thing at the end where its like "remember the good ol days of u being a baby not knowing how to play so the game isnt shit" its because i was a casual, who fought other casuals. I couldnt imagine grinding this game learning match ups to just die to a jab that leads to death by a character named steve, or get camped for 14 mins by a sonic player. Then go home 0-2 and be like yeah lemme keep this up. 90% of top players now are character carried cuz they dropped 5.99. Its actually crazy how alot of these good players are getting cucked for playing characters that arent even bad but just cant compare to dlc or poorly designed characters that shoulda been fixed like 6 years ago in the last game

Again don't play this game if you don't want to, I grind this game cuz I personally find it fun, but it is a grind that kind of objectively isn't worth it. Also what the games competitive landscape doesn't change what your friendlies look like, enjoying this game just with friends is arguably the most fun.

I'm simply calling out this weird logic smash players have where they give good criticism towards the game then immediately act like all that bad shit doesn't matter cuz they remember when they were 10 having fun playing melee and randomly falcon punching people. The reason the smash community is so bad and we constantly getting these new games with no substance is cuz we don't stand on business. We say we don't like shit and want things to change then in the same sentence, act like the current landscape of smash is perfectly fine. This why we still have people coping that meta knight wasn't lame as shit in brawl, bayo (and arguably cloud) didn't ruin smash 4, and now we have people who think that Steve isn't so bad and players just need to get better when the man legit breaks smash more then any other character to have ever done it.

Sonic exemplifies a fundamental weakness of platform fighters that every platform fighter needs to address: When characters have different speeds and levels of mobility, being fast doesn't just mean the character can get in fast and exert pressure, it also means they are the best at running away. Can you even conceive in your mind how Robin, one of the slowest characters in the game, could beat a Sonic that gets the lead and just runs away until timeout? Arcfire? Too slow and the initial projectile gets beat out easily, Sonic can just brute force through that little projectile on reaction. Try to get potshots with Thunder and Thorin? Sonic can shield any time during his dash, if you hit his shield at ANY point he punishes you and you eat a full combo and his lead widens even further. Sonic's gameplan is extremely close to optimal Jigglypuff gameplay in melee where you spam safe, near-unpunishable attacks with your superior mobility. Jigglypuff is similarly hated for this passive, "keep-away" playstyle and it is also difficult to even conceive how a slow character like Ganon could beat a good Jigglypuff.

I've stopped taking the game seriously once I saw items being used in elite quickplay. If you have your own ruleset it's just easy to cheese your way to the top. So with that said I'm only playing to have fun. The only thing im trying to teach myself when it comes to 1v1s is a defensive ground game. No spamming aerials. No spamming dodges.

I stopped playing smash ultimate around 2022. I said Steve was gonna be bullshit with all the new tech people found and I was told I was crazy since it's way too hard to pull off, and I'm disappointed to know that I was right. I played Mewtwo because that's who I liked. I liked his floatiness, his huge back air and strong fair, I adored his forward throw since I was a kid and I always tried my best. In the new meta, mewtwo is a dream matchup for any of these top tiers. I doubt I'll ever be playing mewtwo or even smash ultimate ever again. I hopped over to melee for a bit, but college has gotten in the way of so much that I don't have close to as much free time, nor can I risk getting carpal tunnel again. I have lost all hope on smash ultimate. But I'm glad to see people are keeping it alive, and I'm hopeful it doesn't die a lame meta.

idk, a megaman made huge upsets in cirque, hero somehow did well, miiya's mii sword fighter is sick, ryu is doing better than expected. i think although its been stale for awhile, there's still more to be discovered and figured out. we may be entering a new chapter of the meta with people focusing their adaptations to sonic, gnw, steve. tweek beating sonix at lmbm was amazing. we'll have to see

There are so many videos about this and i am convinced that people still love this game just as much because player base doesnt seem to have decreased and moslty the problems are at very high level play and so dont affect 99 percent of the player base. So the reason were all so engaged in this is because its entertaining to bitch about the game. But the game hasnt actually gotten worse.

Part of why i started playing melee a couple years back is because i was getting tired of where the ultimate meta was headed. Say what you will about its balance, but its top tiers are at least healthy enough to keep the game going for this long. Also its community-made online is way better

Gotta love how removing Melee mechanics and making the game campier and defensive for casuals has only ever continued to result in rewarding campiness in every game after Melee. Project M is better and I hope Rivals 2 is more worth my time. I am not so much a slave to my nostalgia that I cannot find ways to have fun with other games.

@@BamSnoozled Since Joker was released and how busted (and still is) with his jank mechanics, I already knew Sakurai didn't learn anything from Smash 4. Each dlc was power creep the character to making 3/4 of the roster completely worthless to play as from a competition standpoint. Why pick Ganon or sheik when you got mythra and Pyra as I call Shiekendorf. Ultimate left a sour taste in my mouth with the obvious lack of character balancing that it took a mod to re balance the characters, adding back older mechanics, and changes to characters that I can actually enjoy the fights when all characters have previous jank with them. Ultimate could have been the best one but as long as Sakurai and his stubbornness towards smash continues, I shall always be his number 1 hater. FU Sakurai.

Good video showcasing the strongpount of the characters 5:25 could you elaborate on that though? Cause if we're talking about shielding right after a dash, Sonic can't (no one can as far as I know) and you could say Sonic has one of the worst dash-shield because of how long his dash is And for shield right away during a run, every character can do it( hold the direction you're running in and press shield)

following this game since its first year has taught me that you should never blindly trust the opinions of top players or the community for a game. i was saying sonic and g&w were top 5 since the first time i ever saw a competitive set with them 😂 it is insanely obvious i don’t get how anyone couldn’t figure that out until several years into the game being out

I came from sm4sh before I played ultimate and idk I honestly like it better. I get that it had super strong shields and bayo but it also had a lot of interesting stuff that ultimate got rid of like jump cancel smashes and footstool combos. Bums me out people only look at it as the “bad defensive version of ultimate” especially when, as you pointed out, ultimate has become more like that.

SF6+Melee player. I'll casually pick up Ultimate for WAWA WARIO. I have a buddy that plays Ness, I loose 80% of the time, but it's fun anyway. Ult meta looking sad tho.

Man when you compare the modern meta to Ult during the release window for each DLC pack the game was so much more entertaining to watch as a spectator.
