Man, if Billy had made the decision to take the 10 or 11 best acoustic tracks that he wrote during this period (IE: Peace and Love, 99 Floors, The Rose March) and make a full band acoustic record with clean stripped down production it would have been a total masterpiece. It probably would have gotten great reviews as well, not that it matters. But still, I really mourn that lost opportunity because these songs are just too good... They deserve to be on an album but the chance has long since passed him by.
I assembled this album for my own entertainment: the 5 tracks from the live In The Round bit from the DVD, the 4 tracks from American Gothic, plus a stray one from a bootleg that doesn't seem to have been recorded. Bit of Audacity to get the levels lined up and boom - beautiful, largely acoustic 10 track 45ish minute secret SP LP.
Dynamic range..The difference between loud and soft..You have to master both to be great at either..The Smashing Pumpkins have understood this for a long time..They are simply the best at what they do..How blessed we are as fans to know this too.. recognize this and have this awesome music be a part of our lives forever..
This is why the the Smashing Pumpkins are my favorite band in the world... One min you hear loud screaming guitars the next you hear something like this that blows me away... I would say this is one of the best songs they have ever recoreded :O)
In my entire life, few songs or performances from any artist have captured me like this one has. Brilliance. Just pissed you guys didn't clue me in on this nine years ago. But I forgive you now.
I feel the same way. I'm a#1fan of sp since 93. I found this about 4 years ago and I've been connected to it since. More so than most my other favorites. And its not even a album song. Just something he came up with.
Havent heard this song in years and years but i watched a zwan bootleg before bed and i guess billy musta played a show for me in Dreamland becauze i woke up with this in my head. Great earworm to have stuck in my head all day.... its now 4:47 am... so... welp. As im iust seeing this now, I guess I could say its been stuck in my head for almost two days.... before i knew what song it was. Thanks
WTF?, what a level of complexity!, something so beautiful and deep could exist out there?. And there's people saying pumpkins legacy is over. What a bunch of assholes, this is top notch.
I love Billy Corgan and I love the Smashing Pumpkins. All of them past and present. Saw them last year with Jimmy and James back in the group again, and it was amazing! This song is an absolute treasure and masterpiece.
David Rodriguez I just found this today as well, I never knew this song existed. There was a clip of this on the SP Facebook page and I was moved by it so I immediately came to RU-vid to find it.
This moment in time is possibly the most underrated of Billys entire career the Asheville and San Fran shows in 2007 were some of the most amazing shows of the 19 I have seen since 1994
Billy is notorious among fans for not putting his better songs of the post 2000 years on the actual released albums. see also: the Zwan Glass House songs, Riverview, Spilled Milk, Prairie Song, the entire ChicagoSongs album, The World's Fair, Bit 5, Tilt, Gossamer, Stellar, The Rose March, the 2008 jammy stuff, Lonely is the Name, Burnt Orange-Black, etc
Ha, I was just thinking something along these lines. You'd never know how good he could really still get from listening to the 'regular' albums. Shame, that.
Zeitgeist (the bonus track from the album of the same name) is one of my fav songs hes ever done and it didnt even make the cut for the album its named after!
the precision and textural control improved. im not sure about the overall power or dynamism of the band. although the 2008 version gave the originals a run for their $$$
i love this sound of the pumpkins its so jammy and flow ... such a different side of the smashing pumpkina the new band members added so much creative refreshing new creativw influence to pumpkins great era
I simply cannot believe the amount of positive comments on this video. So nice to read all of your comments. True fans, I guess. I never listen to 99 Floors, never. Only because it's been stuck in my head since 2009. From first note to last. Some might say that this is not ''seminal'' work or important but it is valid, always fresh and important to all of us.
I used to know you I used to care I used to know you Are you still there? I won't touch you I won't feel you I won't hear you I won't see you I used to know you Are you still there? I used to know you I used to care It goes far and wide It's a cruel device I cannot drive You from my mind I won't reach out I won't strike in I won't dream about I won't parse the thought I used to know you I used to care I used to know you Are you still there? I jumped from the top And fell right back and I Hit the ground running Scared I swam to the bottom of the sea And I asked around for someone Who might know me Ain't a sad when your choices are Vegas and your friends 99 floors And still nowhere to go 99 floors And still nowhere to roam A punch to the head I passed right out and an impotent stood dumbstruck and stared Armed once again by the fist of fate I wait for his resurrection home Ain't it sad when your choices are vices or advice It's eleven o'clock And don't that make you bawl It's eleven o'clock And don't ya make it bawl Evil, ailing Feeling oh so low I'm slow to anger Wonder where I could Ever go You know I'd have to forget It goes far and wide It's a cruel device I cannot drive You from my mind
Billy Corgan This was a Brilliant Arrangement of this Song. Billy, I play it on my Taylor when I miss someone I loved but can't be with or even talk to. It's a weird world when a person runs from the thing they profess to hold most dear. Love. Strange, these Humans.;) T1

@@CodyChromeBand he has entire albums in the can that have never been released. The actual depth of the catalog is probably more astounding than anyone knows.
Wow you know there was a lot of beautiful songs written by billy during this zeitgeist era ... the album had some mixing issues but some of these songs you hear live just incredible. Like a blend of Gish and adore

@muzicnub4life No studio version really exists right now, unless the band's recording it for "Teargarden by Kaleidyscope". This is probably the best version of it that exists.
Everyone always craps on Billy for being smug or arrogant but if u could make and play something like this with that voice on top of it I'd allow u to be oppinunative about the music industry as well.
@dethmag Well you have to respect the fact that the same mind that That wrote songs as hard as Bullet With Butterfly Wings, and The Ever Lasting Gaze can write a smooth sweet song like this. I love this song it would have been perfect for Melancholy And The Infinite Sadness.
still it leaves a particular feeling in my gut of ambitous curiousity if the orignal line up would fail miserably or succeed gracefully now a days and how they would sound together making new music. i guess we will never know.
Peace+Love, 99floors, No Surrender, Gossamer, Mama, Promise Me, and rerelease Zeitgeist properly with all the songs from that era on one album like Zeitgeist, MaBelle, Death from Above, ....and release Superchrist, GLOW, and FOL as well...oh and release Lightning Strikes and Owata....!! commmeeee onnnnnn!!
I didn't like Zeitgeist much but songs like this are a great addition to the Pumpkins legacy imo. He had any number of names to call the band he puts out these new songs under, but obviously he feels that they're "Pumpkin" material, or hed have called them "Zwan" or "Billy Corgan" songs.
just one question,do you know james solo work, or his participations in other band (liek a perfect circle)? and melissa, his solo album? james is a diferente musician, but a great one to. it misses something in SP. PS: if you were talking about the tinted windows, i agree thats not a band for james. cumps
Explain how its over-indulgent? It's a great build up to a great song. Just because he solos it in the beginning? You mean like starla? He's starting you off on a ride... why not just enjoy the trip? ;) A great song doesn't need to be dissected, just enjoyed.
@WhiteLotusFlower well, I have to agree that the last concept that billy adopt is very interesting. about james, is a diferent way is choose to follow. I cheer him. just hope that billy can mantaine the good work pos tarantula (that was really a side shot). cumps
It's a pity that stuff like this never made it onto a proper album. The Pumpkins could've really aged gracefully if they'd released something in the 00s that had this sort of nuanced acoustic sound.
20anosdepois Of course i've heard james solo works dude and(perfect circle) Sorry I've heard his solo stuff not be a hater of what he does,it adds up to?Lets see NOTHING really.I don't have problem with melissa's solo works...good stuff.Fan's really need stop living in the pass really.Billy's making music get over it and SP is his.I do really miss jimmy tho...but like the old saying goes, stop living in pass and "ALL THINGS CHANGE".
i respect his wishes because of how long hes been loyal although i think iha and darcy are more up themselves than billy. James WAS cool but wrote practically nothing but intros. If these so called stars had ANY real respect for the fans they would do what most other bands have always done, GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT and SEE if they want anything new you have to offer, but whats the point in STILL calling the band "SP" when almost everything associated with them is gone and couldn't care less?
