Full livestream of The Smashing Pumpkins "Siamese Dream" 30th Anniversary show at the re-created Tower Records at Madame Zuzu's in Chicago,IL on September 17,2023
I'm going to see smashing pumpkins on the 13th of June in Manchester England, they have the guitarist kiki wong playing with the band now and she is known for her electric guitar playing so I really hope we get a lot of songs from the siamese dream album. That would be just something else, can't wait.
Same age man... the line in Rocket, "I miss me, I miss everything I'll never be" just sends chills through me. Not that I have a bad life, just not how young me thought it would turn out.
Peak college years for me when I was introduced to Siamese Dream. Might be the most listened to album in my library. If I could only listen to 3 albums for the rest of my life, this is one of them.
I love this album as much as the next person who grew up with it in the 90s. Top 3 rock albums of all time? Whoah...Not even sure I would call it the top 3 of the 90s. Nirvana, AiC, PJ, and Soundgarden come immediately to mind. Opinionated topic for sure.
@@F110mechive only recently discovered this album but I am so hooked and blown away by it. Absolutely love the bands you mentioned but I don't think they have any albums as good as this. I'd have it as my best 90s album I think. Jar of Flies second
@@F110mech yeah im not telling you youre wrong, im just curious as to the 90s albums you would have above it. I dont equate popularity to musicality, and I don't think the likes of Nevermind or Ten have the same variation. SD is equally dreamy in measure as it is heavy. Better mix of acoustic and distorted guitar. String sections sprinkled in there too. The guitar tone is also just out of this world, maybe the best I've heard. I love Nevermind and its probs in my top 3 90s with this and Jar of Flies. No question there is mega competition from that era! If you look at it solely through the lens of musicality though I think it tops the lot
Siamese Dream was the first CD I ever bought. I just liked the covor, but it opened up a whole world. I'm proud I got to ture a bunch of other people on to it. That album got me through some hard times as a kid. I was at the last show you did in Indiana. As an elder listener, I can say. I'll be at the next one I can be.
I was 17, a junior in high school when this album came out and was lucky enough to catch the tour when it came to my hometown. Tickets were something like $18. General admission, got there early and claimed my spot against the front and center row right up against the rail. No cellphones, no distractions. I had to fight all night to keep my spot and ended up with a pretty good size bruise across my stomach 😂. Well worth it!! One of the greatest moments of my life. I'm 48 now and still love Smashing Pumpkins!!
Well said. Can relate to this, even though I was raised in Australia (and guessing you in USA). You made me laugh when you talked about "having to fight for my spot".....those front standing areas and/or mosh pits weren't for the light-hearted.
Yeah we are about the same age. THis is also late high school for me and man that summer was a killer summer for music. pj harvey, rid of me. released: may 4, 1993. ... the roots, organix. released: may 19, 1993. ... liz phair, exile in guyville. ... fugazi, in on the kill taker. ... bjork, debut. ... smashing pumpkins, siamese dream
I was in 10th or 11th grade when it came out. My girlfriend at the time introduced me to them and screaming trees etc. What a time to be a live! Saw them on that tour at Michigan State Fairgrounds then again at Lollapalooza.
Siamese Dream is one of the very few albums I would consider to be a perfect album. It's up there with the likes of Revolver, the Green Album, and Rumours. Every time I listen to this album, at least one of the songs resonates with where I'm at. Definitely one of my favorite albums of all time.
The green album? As in weezer? I hope you're not serious... they had two near perfect albums and green isn't it by a long shot. Everything that came after pinkerton ranks from meh to drek
I think this album is a masterpiece. If it came out today as brand new I would love it just as much. It is something completely unique, deep, and immersive. ❤
Thanks for putting the whole session on here. I meant to record it live but forgot. I remember Purr Snickety being one of the first songs I learned to play on acoustic all the way through. Man that was almost 30 years ago!? 😳
Such a great time to be in high school. Before we were a slave to our phones and meeting people at the mall and visiting the movie and music stores was actually a fun event.
Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Cypress Hill, Rage Against the Machine, Korn. What a time to be alive.
Sure was! Take that, backstreet boys, Hanson, nsynch, not to mention Boyz ll Men, Destiny’s Child, All Saints, Spice Girls, EMF, Blur, Radiohead, Oasis, The Prodigy, Portishead, You Am I, Silverchair, The Chemical Brothers, Fat Boy Slim, Britney Spears, Alanis Morissette, Green Day, Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, Red hot Chilli Peppers, Jayne’s Addiction, Something for Kate, Tool, Slipknot, Cradle of Filth, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park.. Someone else?
Besides the bands you mentioned, Faith No More, The Pixies, Jeff Buckley, Beck, R.E.M, Tool, Mad Season and Kyuss were other bands that also make me think “what a time to be alive!”
Saw them play live in a bar in Madison WI on the Siamese Dream tour, in my top 10 concert experiences.. so dangerously overcapacity it was crazy. Cherub Rock opened and blew the roof off
Exactly. Those people don't "get it"...and realise the impact those songs had (and have) on us, and the capital/goodwill/value (for want of better words) such dongs bring.
I was in tenth grade, driving around smoking weed and tripping on acid and shrooms, mayo is making me cry so many memories love this album one of my all time faves
Rocket really imbeded to my brain the first time I heard it played on MTV. It felt like excitement to me, and it age like fine wine for me when I listen to it multiple times in a week.
Still blowing mind thirty years later. Love you guys and love this album. Changed my life when this album came out and still loving it all these day! Helped me get through some though times at the time.
This was amazing, thank you for sharing it here! I remember clearly my older brother listening to this album all the time that year. I'm really glad to have had such opportunity to grow up with this type of music.
I saw them at the metro in Chicago when they played under the name the turnips before this album came out and again a few weeks later at the same venue. Now Billy corgan lives in the same suburb where i grew up north of Chicago.
Sophomore year of high school. The girl I had a crush on invited all the neighborhood kids over and played this for us front to back. Not much was said. Lots of smiling and head-bobbing. Simply an understanding that these were pretty cool times we were growing up in. My generation hit the musical jackpot
This album “Siamese Dream” from Smashing Pumpkins and “Dirt” from Alice in Chains stayed on repeat/rotation in my Alpine cd player in my car for many years! These were iconic albums that I could play through the entire album never skipping a song.👑🎸❤️🔥💣🤘🏻#SP#30yrs.
Siamese Dream album is perfect to be played live song for song. It starts out with the perfect first energetic song Cherub Rock and ends with a slow melody song Luna
I’d never heard the similarity between ‘Today’ and Queen’s ‘Radio Gaga’ until today. Billy was obviously influenced by Queen, which was also considered deeply uncool at the time for a ‘grunge’ band in the early 90s. I can really hear that now.
Its funny the progression from Gish to Machina. Went hand to hand wirh my depression/addiction. Gish was my "peak" in middle school. Siamese dream- was when i found my Sound and my vocb was huge. Mellon colliw- I was in a small hole i walked in and out but it kept getting lower ADORE -total depression addiction running me more Machina was the same
30 years later I finally looked up what WPC is talking about when he refers to a hummer, and it’s perfect; actually, most of his songs could be called Hummer.
Man I would have sold my kids to be at this show (kidding son don't get butt hurt). Damn though, I would have loved to be at such an intimate show with the group even though not all were there. Of D'arcy would have shown up, that would have made it more epic!. Billy, Jimmy, and James were amazing to see.
Please tell me the tour dates for 2024 that have been released for UK and Ireland is for the siamease dream tour?? Please.... if it is.... shut up and take my money
This is super good. I’ve always loved the pumpkins when they go acoustic. My only question why does corgans left hand look like the purple people eater.
