This album got me through some hard times as a kid. Still my favourite album. Also some bands that seem "mellow" on the radio have some of the best songs not played on air.
Overall, I'd say that Smashing Pumpkins is more of a mellow band that gets really heavy than a heavy band that gets mellow. Still, their balance is absoutely perfect.
YES, I was so glad that I actually bought this album instead of just some of the singles. "Bodies" is epic and I wouldn't have otherwise heard it since it wasn't favorite for radio stations in the day. Learning the hidden gems of a band is what makes you a true fan. I also really liked "Where Boys Fear to Tread". Musicians from this era are dropping like flies unfortunately, it's good to at least see Billy Corgan still with us. It was definitely ballsy to release a double album since they aren't as easy to sell and you've wrapped up hits into once package that could have otherwise been spread across separate albums and more time. The feat of the double album shouldn't be forgotten.
@@kinkane5566 yeah ive been listening to Mellon Collie... carefully every week on repeat and I remember when I was younger and used to only listen to the first songs of side A (Mellon Collie..., Tonight, BWBW, Zero, Jellybelly) and 1979. Now I know Muzzle, To Forgive, Bodies, Here is No Why, Where boys fear to thread and By Starlight are among my favorites off this album
Just goes to show that human behavior doesn't change much over time. Technology changes and we adapt to it socially but with the girl who was recently tormented and committed suicide and this film that was made in the mid 70's ......the average human has not come a long way.
What has changed, perhaps, is society's consciousness of bully brutality. Mass denial (of all sorts of Ugly) gives way to another mass mental tragic path, walking on egg shells followed by the ultimate curse upon civilization: Oprah.
Very nicely done! I like the pan out of the chick impaled by knives. The song almost syncs up completely with the story of Carrie. The bullying Carrie took day after day is similar to the hazings going on today. Eventually, a breaking point gets reached, and the person either lashes out at everyone, kills themselves out of the sheer trauma of it all or winds up in a sanitarium from going insane. Whatever the outcome, that person is never the same again.
Not gonna lie with Bodies by the SP as the cover and me having watched "Carrie" last Halloween this feels all the more haunting and surreal with such a doom like atmosphere looming in🔥🔥🖤🖤
I find it mildly amusing that both The Smashing Pumpkins and the Sex Pistols each have a song called "Bodies." The songs have literally nothing to do with each other besides the fact that they share a name. Both are great, but I think the SP . . . oh wait, the acronym thing doesn't distinguish them all that well. The Smashing Pumpkins' "Bodies" is currently my favorite song with that title. And then there's that other one by Drowning Pool..
Yes they do, it's called punk rock. Which most bands coming out of Seattle in the 90s were. We decided to call it something different, grunge. Which 99% of people in that while of music hate as a label
mellon collie has the most amazing songs. first disc is the best but there are highlights on 2nd one such as bodies. check out their other albums like gish and siamese dream. They are the best band ever!
Glad the song isn't meant to be as scary as the Carrie movie! The song is ironically a love song. The car rolling over and over reminded me of the car they were driving in the 1979 video, except it was red. I guess the kids in the 1979 video were killed off in the Bodies video! Lol
@XxSolvexX tambien los reel time sissions, los 4 primeros albumes de smashing are the best!!!!!........... Aunque Adore es un trabajo taaaan sutil e increible!!!!!!!! machina es un album conceptual y requiere un poco de atencio, que usualmente un yente normal no tiene........
Cast the pearls aside Of a simple life of need Come into my life forever The crumbled cities stand as known Of the sights you have been shown Of the hurt you call your own You know, you know Love is suicide Love is suicide Love is suicide Love is suicide The empty bodies stand at rest Casualties of their own flesh Afflicted by their dispossession But no bodies ever knew No bodies No bodies felt like you No bodies Love is suicide Love is suicide Love is suicide Love is suicide Love is Now we drive the night, to the ironies of peace You can't help deny forever The tragedies reside in you The secret sights hide in you The lonely nights divide you in two In two, in two All my blisters now revealed In the darkness of my dreams In the spaces in between us No bodies ever knew Nobody No bodies felt like you No bodies No bodies ever knew Nobody No bodies felt like you Nobody Love is suicide Love is suicide Love is suicide Love is suicide
