"Wound", one of my favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs of all time, performed live on Musique Plus in Montreal Canada...great high energy performance. part 5 of 8
I absolutely loved the overblown wall of sound of Machina. I think the melodies are still there, just maybe a bit harder to make them out individually.
I think Adore is my favorite album for the powerful songwriting of Billy losing his mother, but Machina has such a great shoegazey dreamlike sound that it is definitely up there for one of my favorite SP albums. I really like a lot of the songs from Machina II as well.
hey! I love the pumpkins and just recently discovered this great song (yesterday). It is crazy to read so much bullshit that was directed towards Billy in 2000. Man! I think the Pumpkins really suffered from the growing of the internet critique. They are great.
Michael Mitchell I think it hindered them from being even more popular amongst the average pop fans,(which may have even been good) but also I'm sure how strange voice ended up attracting even more fans, thinking it was unique
Chris Hernandez Yeah I recently played “1979” on the radio in front of my mom and asked her if she remembered the song. She said she did and thought it was ok but couldn’t really get over the singer’s voice.
right. I mean, there are going to be people who dislike his voice, thats normal. Its just that this band, having multiple hits and albums going gold and platinum; clearly his voice didnt hinder them too much. Just as there are those who dislike the guys' voice, there are many who love it. Personally, I found it really weird and creepy which attracted me more.
I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. It's sad that it isn't one of their popular songs because it is just so amazingly beautiful. Don't you just love my big vocabulary? Eh, I'm kidding about the vocab part. But I love this song so much.
Wound is always performed great live, this performance no exception. It's too bad they didn't play it at any of the shows I went to, including the March 12, 2000 show in Toronto, which was just a couple of days after this performance. It would be cool if they put out this version of the song as a b-side sometime, but that likely won't happen. For now all we have is this version and the Arising! tour versions. David
great great song! the lirics!,..maybe one lost love ....maybe god, and yeah machina I,II fantastics albums maybe not for the mainstream ,but for de people who likes to LISTEN.
Que wena calidad de video!!! Destroyed in the wake The jealous ingrates Who'll tear this world down To spite God above With his own love With his own love If you wait, if you wait If you wait, I will wait Taste, I will taste If you love, I will love Run, I will run To my last breath
HELL NO! I spent 7 years playing in a Cure tribute band! THE CURE FORMED IN 1976! They inspired countless bands that followed! So, what you're hearing is "The Cure" (played through The SP's).
I know singers voice changes as they age but god damn do I miss Billy’s voice between Gish and the end of Zeitgeist. After that ugh.....still Love the music though.
I think Billy's change in vocals had less to do with age and more to do with his conscious decision to try and be a singer instead of vocalist. You can hear the dramatic change just two years later with Zwan. It's the same with his guitar playing. He's not half the player now that he was 20+ years ago, especially with improvising solos live. You read enough interviews etc., and it seems like he had this need to prove to the world that he was just as brilliant and could be just as successful without the things that made him so in the first place.
No wound is not on Machina II. Look it up. There is "If You Wait" on the Machina acoustic demos which is an early version of "Wound" and the studio version of "wound" from machina, and that's it for recorded versions that have surfaced. I think you are getting it mixed up with something else. I run an SP fan site, I think I would know what's on Machina II ;) David
I struggle to think of what 'overproduction' you're talking about on the album version of Wound. Granted a lot of the rest of the album sounds like Nicki Minaj looks, but just because the guitars sound really clean doesn't make it overproduced.
jettymichael people don't know what they're talking about when it comes to production. What's up with Machina is not OVER production. It's simply just a particular production style pathway they chose to go with to aid the vibe of the album; which is a Cybernetic, layered, atmosphere
Unreal .. hey R&R Hall of Fame !????? WTF. The actual F ??? This band carried alternative in 94… WTF ???? Haters stop !!! The Might SP is STILL throwing Down !!!!! dub JAB CrewVoR305🇨🇺
Yeah, it's unfortunate to see what happened. Listening to the acoustic demo, it's beautiful, and you get the feeling it could have been one of the best Pumpkins tracks. Maybe.
He lost the plot when he decided that he wanted to be a singer instead of a vocalist. There was so much more range in tones and textures to what he did and it suited both the lyrics and music so much better. His voice gave an ironic twist and edge to certain lyrics in the past that just come across as saccharine and trite the way he sings now.
aperturius over production isn't the problem. What you're referring to is the production style they used to create the album's particular sound that theey didn't do with their other albums
