My best friend is from old money and Allure is her signature scent. To me, it smells very mature. But she has been rocking it since she was in her 20s.
Allure is gorgeous. I am 44 years old and wore allure in my early through mid-20s. It's a sophisticated and, dare I say, alluring fragrance that seems to appeal to adults across age groups.
Yes, I have been wearing this fragrance for many years as it’s been a favorite. I think of it as a signature fragrance but no one has complimented. Maybe, it only smells fabulous to me. I’m ready to update. Hopefully, I’ll find something new as I watch.
Thanks for re-igniting my love of fragrances! It’s now a new hobby. As a single parent spending money for fragrances was a luxury - but I’ll never forget when I made more career moves - I would buy a new fragrance. I did not think anything of it at the time.. it was just what I wanted .. Creed - Hermes, Armani - and Channel. Now ..Thanks to you I’m discovering again, how much I love fragrances and exploring the different ones. Thanks for making these video’s! I thought I’d have A favorite by now.. but I have several instead.
I would add Gentle Fluidity Gold to the list. Every time I wear it I get this trust fund baby slowly taking over the family business empire and as the initial responsibility hosting a charity Gala, and walking and talking with the investors sorta vibe.
@@LeaLooove lol had to google who she is… must say not the one had in mind when I got the picture. Was inclining towards someone less bratty more empowered regardless of the spoilt upbringing 😅
Agree 100% on the white chocolate vibe of Carlisle - from the Tonka bean- vanilla - nutmeg combo in there When rich smells yummy! Awesome video as always Demi 💰💵💄💄
Finally Gris Dior in a TOP list! Amazing scent and one of my favorites and has become my signature scent.❤ I always love to put this in the office when I want a bit more sophistication an confidence. Completely unique take on rose and patchouli and always gets me compliments.
I love it too. It definitely deserves its spot. It’s absolutely my favourite. As a young teen many centuries ago I saved up to buy Diorissimo (only 5 Dior choices then - Diorissimo, Diorling, Dioressence and Diorama - plus Miss Dior - but only the first 4 were available in my small town). I still keep a bottle of Diorissimo though it’s not easy to find these days, but though I like it, it’s not quite the same since being reformulated. But it’s still lovely and not too sweet. Since then I’ve added Rose n Roses (great for when you need to be subtle - wear it for work or medical appointments ), and very occasionally J’Adore intense, which really is a bit too sweet for me, but love love love this Dior Gris . It’s lasts ages on me too. I put 2 sprays on at 9 am - it’s now 2 pm and I can still pick it up - most perfumes only last a short time on me normally.
Thank you for for this list, took notes and will be ordering samples of practically everything on it 💕 I have a couple favorites, both discontinued, but not the best quality of either. I am looking for something similar, but hopefully better quality and longevity. One is Marc Jacobs Woman Eau de Parfum that has been discounted. The other is an oil by Bare Escentuals called Sea Mist, also discounted. However, it does not have to be an oil, just a good quality fragrance that is similar. If you have any ideas to substitute for these I would be thrilled!
Perfect timing. I'm looking for some perfumes for my wife's xmas prezzies. I might plump for Dama Bianca & Fleur Burlesque, cause who doesn't love burlesque. Angelique Noire is one of my faves, too.
I've been getting elevated sophisticated old money vibes from the two decants I recently tracked down of this and last year's Shalimar limited editions. I never thought I would be a Shalimar woman, but I can't keep my hands off the Mellisime Vanilla Planifolia. (Wish I was old money so I could afford to hoard all the remaining bottles out there!)
I feel the same way about Tuberose. I had Tuberoza and it had to go! Angelique Noir definitely puts me in the mind of old money for sure. Cuir Beluga is my favorite fragrance from Guerlain. You definitely pulled out the big guns for this one! I need a new bottle of Ivory Route. I wear this one so much in the winter. Ardent is a stunner! That fragrance was my introduction to the brand.
Interesting idea for a video. I agree with a lot of your picks. Old money scents are a bit more restrained and less indulgent. Someone from old money would not overspray either. Also, even though I like wearing scents from brands like: Tiziana Terenzi, Bond No 9, and intense fragrances such as Rouge Malachite sometimes, they can smell a bit sexy and trashy. A girl in a loud tracksuit walked by me in a luxury department store literally covered in BR540. She choked me out so badly that the fragrance actually gave off a vulgar vibe.
That was my exact experience with Angelique Noir. I was repulsed with first whiff, like Black Orchid, and Miel du Bois, and now can not get enough. I feel it has that yin yang dynamic like Ormonde Jayne Woman, that I love on my clothes the next day. Thank you for the recommendation.
I loved this list - my daughter gave me a handful of samples of ones I wanted to try: Iris Malikhan, Carlisle (my two top favorites), Then: Volutes, Angelique Noir, Ivory Route, Gentle Fluidity. I was in a store the other day wearing Carlisle - two women walked by me, paused, and said “that’s the smell of a very expensive perfume”. so, there you go. I know I love wearing it. I don’t dislike any of them. Some are a little softer - I love both Ivory Route and Gentle Fluidity for that. For me Angelique Noir - A BANG of scent. Volutes is also wonderful with my body chemistry. I find myself reaching for a different one and enjoying each of them. It will be a difficult decision deciding which one to buy a full bottle of first.
Nishane Tuberoza is amazing, amazing I love it, they better never discontinue or change the formula. Nishane if you're reading be warned. I also love Gris Dior, a stunner, I would add Dominique Ropion for Frederick Malle Portrait of a Lady and Amouage Memoir.
I love Angelique Noire, Ivory Route, Gris Dior, and Allure, being Allure one of the first fragrances my husband give me when I moved to the USA . I may as well subscribe to your channel since I love many of the ones you have chosen here. Thank you for posting.
Was looking forward to this topic from you, Demi! I’m about to explore Parfums de Marly house & will now be adding Carlisle to my (long) list. Dama Bianca is my signature scent, and people definitely notice it; especially men~ 👀👀
I Oh my, Allure by Chanel! I used to wear Allure 20+ years ago. Hadn’t worn it in almost two decades, recently bought a bottle and have been wearing on and off. I agree with this one smelling “rich” or “from old money” for sure..
Out of my collection, I would say Chanel beige, Louis Vuitton heures d’absence, and maybe rose prick (vanille fatale for evening) Angelique nior for sure too… effortless class :)
I love Guerlain "Angelique Noire" is fabulous! It is an acquired wear fragrance. And I wear Diptyque "Volutes" quite often; it is a skin scent. I love the Hay note along with the immortelle coming out in the middle and then finishing off with the base notes of: Benzoin, Opoponax, and Myrhh. I prefer the EDT instead of the EDP though.
Need to smell Gris Dior. Thanks to you I have and love Iris Malikhan and Ivory Route! Didn't like Guerlain's Angelique Noire, will give it another try. I have Chanel Allure and need to wear it. Great picks!
Hi Great video I used to work with very wealthy people for Ella bache I used to love the perfumes they would use and they would not necessary wear expensive perfumes believe it or not Old money people were frugal with their money. Many would love old fashion perfumes like ordinary Tea Rose Gardinia Roses Violet perfumes Lilly of the valley also .
I love Angelique Noire I don’t have a full bottle but I sure want to get it in my collection. I fell in love with the moment I smelled it. Maybe because it’s different and that’s what I love about fragrances.
Nice list, I def have to try Carlisle! I would add Amouage Honour, Dior Addict and at least one Hermes - many of their perfumes have this old money dna to me.
I had a similar experience with Angelique Noire as you did. Saw some reviews saying it's one of the best vanilla perfume, went to the boutique to buy Neroli Outrenoir and got a sample of Angelique. Usually I don't like vanilla perfumes because they are too sweet and greasy for me. When I sprayed Angelique for first time, the green, grassy and bitter smell hit me in a bad way but then after 1-2 hours, the creaminess of vanilla came out, has transformed in a very luxurious, sophisticated smell. I even got complements from a guy in a store. He said that I was smelling so good and he doesn't know what I wear but I should keep wearing it and buy it, I felt very nice I must admit. In my country stranger guys just don't compliment your perfume in a public place, so it means he really, really liked it.
I wonder why many consider Guerlain designer, true they sell other boudoir products like lotions and makeup, but they have always been in perfume business and nothing else really. Also other historical niche French brands like E. coudray always produced perfumes and other boudoir products like bath foams and lotions. Personally I am not considering Guerlain designer and I also love their work. What do you think?
@@perfeptions these are great observations I think because they make makeup and are known for makeup it kind of feels like their main purpose but I could be so so wrong about that. It’s also widely available and sold in sephoras etc which could still be niche I guess to me it just feels less niche than other houses
@@CeliaCavalli Guerlain’s main purpose has always been perfumery. This is how they started and it’s why they are famous. Beauty and makeup are a differentiation of their business essentially 🥰
You're right on the money with Dior. I feel Dior Addict edt, is very much epitome of rich life. It doesn't last long, but it's so uplifting. Beautiful!
The choice of a perfume is highly personal. It must be love at first smell. From my grandmother, my mother, aunts, cousins to my daughter etc., the women in my family wear perfume every day, but according to our tastes and not because it is worn by wealthy women and costs a bomb. Smell like a rich girl is totally stupid.
I love radical rose I got a sample and just put it on casually around home and oh it really develops beautifully I love rose fragrances. Thanks for including this fragrance
I agree, my gourmands are definitely girly and not elegant but... in these difficult times, even being well ensconced needs a parfum that is an embrace ;) 😉
Just found you and subscribed. My style is very classic, and I definitely want to try your suggestions as elegance, subtle, opulent and expensive are words that resonate with me. Great analysis. Thank you!
To me Tuberose is a delicate subject as well. I strongly suspect that my sudden love for Tuberose largely depends on my hormones. 😄 I start loving it around my period and then start being more indifferent to it or even hating it.
I always felt that way about Joy. I wore it in the 70s when one of the executives-a Grace Kelly lookalike-wore it every day. My budget was far more limited so I only wore it on special occasions and dates.
JoY by Jean Patou ( Jacqueline Kennedy ) Creed Fleurissimo ( made for Grace Kelly’s wedding. ) Chanel No 5 Coco madmoiselle Fracas Evening in Paris Miss Dior Guerlain Jicky Vent Vert , Balmain Hermes Eau de Hermes Givenchy L ‘ Interdit
So so happy for that video, watching this before going to work, putting me in a great mood, going to be wearing Gris Dior today! (I'm on my second coffee 🤣) Bonne journée Demi from South of France 💕!
Yes mine too so beautiful and underrated I revelry sprayed it and I couldn’t believe it lasted 12+ on my skin . Not many people use it here so everyone is always asking what I am wearing
I own allure and it’s a yes from me I always get compliments and not many people use that perfume here it’s so underrated but long lasting and so alluring .
Thanks for this! I now have a few more to try. I had to laugh to myself when you mentioned Allure. I fully agree - it was the very first fragrance I purchased for myself and completed the bottle (which is not the case with all other fragrances I purchased after that). The fragrance I never learned to appreciate is MISSONI. Not a good choice for me. Has anyone else tried it and had the same experience?
Awesome video Demi!!!! I kind of giggled at allure being on this list because it was my teenager perfume. Loved it then… although still pleasing I like the more sexy perfumes now. I may try a few of your suggestions by ordering samples . Thanks!!!
Nice list Demi, thank you. You made me get my Carlisle sample out again, and yes, you are right, it smells amazing, definitely fb worthy🌺. Radical Rose is beautiful, I love it too. However, I have been missing any mention of any FRASSAÏ perfume on your channel for ages. Since you made me try and love Frassaï in 2019 they have become my favorite perfume company and I own bottles of their 5 first scents.. I would very much appreciate your review on their newer releases, Victoria e.g. thanks🌺
I've noticed a lot of iris in here (or orris root I guess?). I'd say my number one note in fragrances. Some people comment that I smell like an old lady when I wear iris (for example, "Love, Chloe"), but I guess I just smell like old money!! 😅
Hi Demi. Do you talk about Allure edp or edt ? As for as I'm concerned, the most beautiful "Old Money" perfume is WHITE by Puredistance, which is a very expensive fragrance btw !! You can smell it at Jovoy store... Thanks for all your amazing videos. Greetings from Paris ❤
I would add Tom Ford Eau de Soleil Blanc, not suitable for this list from the first glance, but it is definitely old money lady on the beach vacation somewhere in Spanish Marbella or Monaco, walking on the streets wearing all white, nice hat and designer sunglasses.
I agree with your assessment of Angelique Noir. I own it and love it. I am a Guerlainophile so I am very bias. And yes, the image of an older monied woman dressed in cashmere and furs, carrying a Birkin in Paris is moi. 😉👍🏻 life is very good
Hello Demi, another great video. Thank you for putting another amazing list for us ❤❤❤. Have you tried Ormaie? If so, would you consider doing a video about the brand? I would also love to see your updated collection video 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi Demi,, you are a respected and experienced fragrance reviewer. You are always truthful, there is not the need to pre qualify your statements with ... ' I'm not gonna lie' because there is an implication that truthfulness is not the norm. Similarly if we say 'if I'm being honest with you' or to be totally honest with you' or 'to be honest' ... again those statements are not required because being honest is normal for us.
@@demirawling Hi Demi, anyway who am I to comment. You are a master of your craft and I couldn't come anywhere near to doing as successfully what you do
This is the first time I saw a video of you. Very interesting and I made a folder with these perfumes. I have worn Allure for a while. Was delicious. I look forward seeing more videos from you. Happy Holidays! ❤
Love your videos!! Carlisle and Tuberosa 2 of my very favorites 😍 😍 all my collection is base on your experience, I had never have bad blind buy with your suggestions 😀 ❤️😘
I fell in love with Dama Bianca when I first sniffed it. I agree with your assessment - understated, but elegant, classy, and effortlessly beautiful. That's why a full bottle is on the way to me as I type
Oh no! I thought Athalia would be part of the list. I think it smells like velvet gloves, and everyone who's smelled it on me seems to like it. No surprise on Diptyque, the whole line smells like old money for sure
My mom and chanel nr 5...whenever my dad wants to make her happy another bottle appears 🤣 me im all about ysl and yvresse is my passion. Im lucky to still have a bottle of the non reformulated one 😍
Love your videos. Have been watching for years and have bought on your recommendations. I have a question and please don’t take this the wrong way as I’m just trying to understand when you describe what you are smelling. When you describe a smell as creamy what are you meaning. I can understand something feeling creamy or tasting creamy but how does something smell creamy?
Have you smelled « Bolt of Lightning » by JAR ? It is the most intriguing perfume I’ve ever smelled. I had a sample I treasured. They say it smells like the positive ion scent in the air after a storm. Only Bergdorf Goodman sold it in the states. Now you can only get it at the JAR shop in Paris. It is… an old money scent. I think it’s now 500 to 800 dollars US a bottle. MY sister in law, a flight attendant, was going to bring me a bottle until she saw the price. They say it’s an experience to go there . I am a perfume lover but only wear the discontinued Mystère de Rochas and Vintage 1000 by Jean Patou. Mystère is now going for over 300 on eBay. I have hopefully stock piled enough to last me til I’m gone… lol never had any perfume agrée so well with my body chemistry same with the 1000 by Patou. My mother also wore Vintage Mystère. The newer version before they discontinued is not as good. I enjoyed your talk thank you. ❤
Great video!!! I love your suggestions and I agree with most of them. I want to try Gris from Dior and Carlile from parfume de marly. I totally agree with iris malikan , it took some time to get it but when I finally understood it I love it 😀 ♥️
Hey Demi, can you discuss EDP EDT Parfum differences and application? I am getting my list together based on your comments first up is Hermes EDT then Spice Bomb. It is becoming winter here in NY. Love your vids and your accent also your French is seemless!! Thanks
Herrera Tuberose is the most elegant old money Tuberose perfume followed by Love Tuberose by Amouage I remember I disco eres you reviewing Angelique Noire I do have Bois D Armenie is just sublime magic my favorite from Xerjoff is More than words a truly bold money for mature men and woman is Mitsouko by Guerlain and Santal Blanc from Van Cleef and Arpels Allure is amazing a huge compliment getter and very long lasting I don’t find anything soft about it …
