Smelt Fishing Higgins Lake & More 

I don't think most people realize how hard it really is to produce this kind of content. They see you catching fish when they watch these videos and just assume you're just always catching fish. We both know that's not the case at all. There is so much time envolved. Travel, dragging equipment out and back. Finding fish that actually want to cooperate. It's tough and my friend you are very very good at getting it done.👍

Brought home 55 from lake fifteen last weekend, was a cold night to camp on the ice!

Did you ever smelt dip the asable river at the mouth. I remember as a kid my parents doing it and would come home with a 55gal trash can full. Beer batter smelt rocks !

we used to use a big net n scoop em up

I usually try to get over there once a season. Hailey jig on the bottom and two really small tear drops about 8" apart is how I rig for them. Get a light on the ice be surprised how much it works. Good episode keep it up

Smoked Cisco are so good , their so spending in are grocery store, but I get a craving for them and buy them.

I've filled the freezer with smelt the last 2 weeks. I didn't have much luck at Higgins though. Sure was cool seeing the smelt on your camera. I love how a school of smelt lights up my Garmin! (I'm pretty new to ice fishing.)

Yeah tough fishn all around, was hammering them one day then next time out ( where are they? ) Typical mid winter. Waiting for last ice now! Remember long ago going to point peely Ontario, coming home with buckets of smelt! Guess they don’t run like that anymore.

Do you have any pointer on areas of the lake and depth? I just moved to Higgins in October and have gotten into some perch and a few lakers but really wanna give smelt a try this coming weekend!

20 years ago catching smelt on Higgins was easy and awesome. Common to put a handful of master anglers in your bucket each night. But word got out the crowds came and that was all she wrote.
