SMG 08/18 Is Now One Of The Best Assault Guns | Battlefield 1 Weapon Review 

I kinda wish the old fire rate version was kept as like an experimental variant or something. Weirdly I enjoyed the old one for the slight stretch in range it provided.

I genuinely miss the old SMG 08/18. I liked having an SMG that worked like an LMG, and it was one of my favorite SMGs.

I don't feel bad firing shotgun at people with THIS thing...

Remember when DICE created the TTK 2.0 patch to bring slow ROF automatic weapons in line with the Automatico and the Parabellum MG 14? yeah, neither did I...

Is it just me, or did I like this gun before the patch. Probably just me.

Shame that I really liked this weapon before it was given a buff it didn't at all need. Now this gun is the choice of all the Hellriegel tryhards and other sweaty assults.

This was a good weapon before anyways. This has been my go to Assault weapon when the Russian DLC was release.

I hate the way that they say: "pick the right map for the weapon", instead of "pick the right weapon for the map". It really makes the game community seem more casual.

Agree with SMG08, wouldn't call it 'the best gun' (No gun is really). Its awful post 15m or so. Comment on the Model 10 hunter made me pause the video haha. The best shotgun to date? Ugh, Bad Company 2 pump action cancel slug rounds from across the map on all kits.... or BF4 with its silly 20m OHK 870.

And here I am with my rsc 1917 trying to improve my aim while noobies are running everywhere bursting their parabellum and automatico like it's 4th of july...and now this ?

It was a unnecessary buff but I'm not complaining.

Nivelle Nights is one of my favourite night maps in BF1

Before the buff the Hellriegel was pretty much the only viable option for a jack of all trades assault gun. Other weapons have either too slow a fire rate to be used as SMGs, or too short a range like the Automatico. BF4 still has a little bit of everything there's never really a gun that EVERYONE uses because its the only one that doesnt suck.

What LevelCap said about the medic weapons requiring skill is why I love that class so much. I dont have the twitch reflexes for Assault and not accurate enough for Scout so mid range engagements as a medic, or dashing in and out of the front lines like a ninja is my favourite way to play

I feel like the WW1 Soldiers of BF1 are the type of people that would slurp on some noble scotch / red wine before sotorming the next enemy trench. One of the medics always nicely asks ,,wheather you would give him permission to heal your wounds" Just imagine getting half your leg torn of by a anti tank granade and have someone like that as a medic.

glad dice has turned bf1 from a somewhat skilled rifle based game to a spam-fest of over the top lmg/smgs in just the span of a few weeks. if you run anything but lmgs and smgs now, you put yourself at an enormous disadvantage in most situations.

I loves this gun when it was first added cuz I found it so effective at range. Now I love it cuz it hip fires accurately for days.

The M1917 MG has become one of my favorite LMGs.. 1st is always the M1909 Benet-Mercie

Guns this easy to use aren’t fun to play with, I like running around flanking with my lil frommer stop auto. It makes you feel more accomplished when you do good and actually helps you get better at the game. SKILL GUNS > noob guns

Yeah, I tried the gun once when it was first released with tsar dlc, didn't like it. Now it's a beast

The legendary skins for the apoc dlc guns are extremely low texture. I got a couple legendary skins and I don't even run them bc the skin resolution is so low. You think this's a problem bc of how lazy some of them are?

If you put the AA sights on this gun and you have a steady hand it can kind of snipe from medium ranges

I agree that it’s crazy how much of a difference between the 5 round medic rifles and these high rps rifles in the assault class... I feel that if every rifle had its own challenge amounting to that of these rifles in the medic class you’d eventually have a server filled with very experienced soldiers. It would make for an interesting experience!

I used it because it was somewhat challenging to get kills because half the time hellreegills and autoemattico usually rekt me unless I hit headshots but now I don't even wanna use it anymore, back to the mp18

R.I.P Hellriegel. It was one of my favorite weapons. But now the sights are unusable on the defensive (hope they fix it quickly) and this weapon came in.

I didn't even hear about this and then equipped on Capporeto and though it still had the 600 rpm i had before.

I liked it when this weapon had a slow fire rate but really good accuracy. I would prefer if they lowered the fire rate to maybe 600 and give it much less recoil, or they could have kept the low RPM but increased its damage model by quite a bit.

Pairing the optical variant of the SMG 08/18 and smoke grenades makes this weapon dominate on every map

They should make the optical variant what the smg 08 used to be. Maybe slightly buffed, but keep it the same gun.

Loved it before ttk 2.0 honestly. I like how they gave it its IRL rate of fire, but i miss the old slower one...

I'm just glad the gun is finally getting some real use. A lot of people here are saying that they liked the SMG pre nerf, but I honestly never saw people using it, like, ever. This is just my observation however, and isn't backed up by actual hard evidence so, take it as you may, but I never found a real use for the old 08.

Haven't played this game since the first DLC and I don't miss it one bit. Bring on BF 2018. Hopefully it plays nothing like BF1.

Levelcap, have you tried the new specialization? I think there are 3-4, they are “free” (no unlock required). Some look promising, like “Slink”, might be worth a review vid.

Can anyone confirm for me that if I do have premium or any of the DLC packs it is impossible to unlock the guns via challenges? Aka can I only access guns which have been out since launch?

I preferred it the way it was before. It actually had a unique role in the assault class, now it just feels like another automatico.

unrelated to the video, have you tried using the russian 1895 trench? its very similar to the calvary rifle however it has a noticeably higher fire rate at the expense of damage at range. its an excellent weapon for close quarters and pairs well with the m1911 or mars automatic. consistant one shot to the head and two shots to the body, i find it to be a good for pushing objectives. using a spot flare and k bullets makes an especially good loadout for conquest or rush. it combines the aggressiveness of the assault class with the utility of scout for a sometimes devastating result. i find it to be best on the large infantry based maps like argonne and that french one, but works well on maps like amiens and neville nights. you can swap out k bullets for a trip wire bomb to make a defensive front line loadout as well.

The RSC SMG is really fun to use too

I can see why it's op on pc but on console it's much harder to control the recoil and that's why it's more balanced.

It feels like the Devs all play Assault and nothing else. Any bonus content? Goes to Assault. Make a class usable in all ranges? Close Quarters (any shotgun) medium range (hellriegel or SMG 08) Longer ranges (M1917 Carbine/any slug shotgun). Wish the medic or support class would see some love too.

Something ive noticed since ttk 2.0, shotguns are nowhere to be found on the battlefield. Nobody seems to use them anymore.

I was a fan of the SMG/08 before the patch.

Its stupidly op and now the one weapon that had the potential to add another meta to the assault class is gone. If they just removed the random bullet deviation at the old fire rate and damage it could have been a really interesting gun. While jackfrags criticises the strategic loadout of the heavy bomber, you barely even describe this as being a major problem and shy away from critiquing dice.

Aiming for center mass has always be a staple when training even police do it, and it should always be staple it in a Military based game tbh. I think it's great that game developers are actually getting smart, and I hope they continue with this. Head-shots are unreliable kills, and games that try to be mil-sim-esk don't reward you for that reason. Not saying BF1 is mil-sim by any means but still its a good trend in my opinion.
