No. _No she did not pronounce his name well._ Easiest way to look for someone actually pronouncing his name (and a pair of the other names of weapons and characters from his legends like the Gáe Bulga and Scáthach) is to look up the multiple videos of Ronnie Drew's reading of his old origin tale. _KOO, HULL-inn._ That's how you pronounce Cú Chulainn's name correctly. The "Hound of Culann" (KOO-lann).
Okay, Firstly. I am Irish and this story is something we grow up with. This is an Irish mythology not Scottish, like the casters suggested in the stream reveal. He is the 'Hound of Ulster' which is a province in Ireland. Secondly Ulster is pronounced Ulster.. not Ool-Ster. Thirdly, he killed the Hound using a hurly and a sliotar, which are sporting equipment used in the national game of hurling in Ireland. King Connor saw Satanta (Cu Chullainn) playing hurling in a field with children and was impressed with him so he invited him to his castle. On arrival he was met with the Hound, the Hound charge and Satanta struck the sliotar (which is a small ball like a baseball) into the hounds mouth killing it. I'm not sure where Hi Rez get their information and I can't give an opinion on any other God in the game, on their lore and stuff but the story of Cu Chullainn was part of my childhood and I would like it to be told right. I am so happy that they brought this God into the game though. Great design and good kit. Thanks HiRez
hrpang ya but he's an Irish hero they should have the proper version not the Welsh or Scottish ones He allegedly when wounded (or just when he got angry by some accounts) went berserk and essential became this unstoppable force of death killing armies and forces which vastly out numbered him The transformation in the game is their way of representing this I think
No mention of Scathach, the Gae Bolg, or his epic battle against Ferdiad? Hell, his riastrad is actually a key component of his kit but it doesn't even get a reference in the lore section? Kinda disappointing.
Now that we have a Rage bar for Cu Chulainn we need a god who uses like Vampiric/Blood magic and his mana is his health kinda like Thanatos would be cool... so much new god design potential now that we can get rid of the mana bar.
Hi-Rez has mastered the art of having skins that are inspired without infringing, like Cabraken's one skin which is basically Hulk. Ya know after the Catwoman Bastet skin back in the day.
Subjagator they should have at least called his q Gae Bolg and not barbed spear , also while he does go berserk when fighting he keeps his skill and agility he doesn’t turn into a hulk like wtf
@@kingchickenwing4887 He defeated his teacher's evil twin(both were female) and told her he would spare her life if she had sex with him, resulting in a son Cu Chulainn mistakenly kills his son was 7 years old. Fun fact: According to OSP, Cu Chulainn died at 17, so you do the math of how old he was when he became a father.
Gae Bolg is the name of his spear in the original myth, so he's constantly using it in base form. I'm more disappointed his passive is just "Berserk" (literally means bear skin) and not the proper term of "Riastrad" or "Warp Spasm", even "Torque" is a better translation.
Amen. Warp Spasm would sound sooo much better. Granted, they also played a little fast and free in their lore explanation, but that can be forgiven for the sake of time, I guess.
So, I had no idea who Cu Chulain was (I have heard of him, but am not familiar with his myths). And after a quick Google search I read about his lores. And I must say, Hirez did a great job designing him. His abilities matched his lore perfectly. "His barbed spear, a weapon that inflicts damage none have recovered from" reduces healing. "His war cry would kills hundreds of warrior from fright" reflects in his Ultimate. And the way he goes berserk, changes form and gets extremely hot is also very in line with his lore. Well done Hirez. ...Now re-read Daji's lore and change her kit
@@Rmcd97 pronouncnation change with each transition from other languages. It doesn't matter how you say it because there are several ways to pronounce his name, it all depends on where you are from.
Needless to say, when I learned of SMITE and saw they had Celtic pantheon, one of my thoughts was naturally: ''How long until they release Cu Chulainn?'' And here we are.
Anderson Zerloti e rank man. sorry i dont mean to spoil. but his e rank in fate just works also in smite. truly i feel sorry for this legendary character.
It does not that, is something Fate made up, his spear fills your body with barbs, it was instantly lethal, he used it roughly twice in his entire life.
This easily the most censored description of Cu Chulainn's legend. I like how all the abilities are there that reference the legends but none of the details referencing them.
So many people know of him from Fate, and that's... Honestly a relatively butchered incarnation of the guy. They made Gae Bulg into... I think it's Gungnir, Odin's spear, that has that ability in its myth. Gae Bulg is... Just a really damn good spear, I think.
@@charcharmunr Too late to reply but He still had that ability where you can't heal normally with the injuries. They just added something where you can't really dodge it unless you have higher luck. It's not butchered but him making a Hulk because of his curse was not something I would like to see and it was there in Smite. As for when you get stab and the barbs grow I remember that in his berserker form im Fate which an Incarnation of him with his curse and when he stabs you with the Spear the barbs grow inside. I guess you could say it's still butchered just from the fact that a servant summon was just a copy and a relatively weaker than what they are originally in the throne of heroes because of class restrictions. Since Lancer ver can't used the curse while berserker was him when the curse is active
I don't play this game, but I love to see the different concepts that these companies come up with. This one reminds me of Gnar from LoL but the way that he has to manage his bar is far more interesting. Love it.
I was kinda expecting more like his Fate version with the spear form as his only/primary abilities. But still cool and glad they added the Celtic line.
Fun fact, that Druid that gave Cu his prophecy? Yeah, you see Cu heard him say the part about how those who take up arms will be legend part and then immediately grabbed a weapon and ran out to battle, he would have heard the guy say the part about an early death if he had just waited a little bit and let the guy finish talking
You'll be waiting forever then because it's never going to happen. The abrahamic religions are too politically charged in the west for Hirez to do anything with them without igniting a PR firestorm.
Adrian Leon Taveras I always thought the Warp Spasm form was more of a giant zombie than a hulk thing. It was always described as having a missing eye, exposed internal organs, a torn face, etc. I didn't realize that this was meant to be the Warp Spasm.
Flesh Maze Tango i guess they had to tone down the imagery, but I do thinking they should have given the passive the proper name as well as referencing his spear in his 1 and ult. They also did not explain warp spasm in the lore for some reason
@@diamador4471 I seem too remember hearing that his muscles inflated like a balloon, and that he towered over them like a giant. He got bigger definitly
Ian Davidsson yes but he’s not suppose to go Bruce banner, he usually bulls up and his hair stands up like a saiyan, while having his agility and gae bolg
Anyone who fought at least one time with anger can be summoned in the Berserker class. So pretty much unless you have the patience of Buddha himself, you can be sloted into the Berserkers class.
why not.... zeus from dota 2 has the same ulti as Karathus from lol and nu wa from smite... does this comparison offend you for some reason? it shouldnt...
TheTradicional To be fair there's plenty of characters that don't have proper accents. How many Greek gods have Greek accents? Athena has a Russian accent. A lot of Chinese gods don't sound Chinese. Egyptian gods don't sound Egyptian. Weird that more people care about the Celtic pantheon's accents than the other pantheons.
El creepo magnifico the new hero in overwatch is irish with a real irish accent. And there are alot of people on skellig isles in the witcher 3 with real irish accents (they would have to since its named after an irish island ard skellig)
honestly I've really just wanted Aeolus from Greek mythology for the longest time. I think it be really cool to have a wind God and I feel like they could even do something or each one of his four abilities represent a different direction of wind (north east south west)
But that was it though. He was only deitified by the people because of his military accomplishments. That's when the Chinese people acknowledged him as a god. I'm not trying to be disrespectful of him being a god, I'm just pointing that he wasn't a god a start. Now with Hercules being a demigod that's a bit different since he made a choice to be mortal but the people still deitified him because of his feets.
What's up with the comments of "Hirez copying Gnar's abilities?" It's annoying. LoL players should read Setanta's lore before whining. Is this how they always act around? Going to each Moba's video Saying that they copied from Riot's 'originality?' That's so childish. Grow up and deal with it. This is coming from someone who plays both Smite and LoL.
Rosenkreutz It's especially ironic when you consider every Hero LoL started out with was stolen from the old DOTA "Hero suggestion" forums after their admin shut the site down and went to LoL's freshly formed dev team or just straight up copies of Hero's that had existed since the early days of Dota Allstars WC3 maps.
Jake Watkins too bad paladins started the development before overwatch; too bad they did jetpack fighter and another game that now doesn't exist anymore that wasn't copied from anything; too bad smite is unique in the genre of moba and you can't say he copied dota just because it is a moba -.-"
Still feel like he needs protections on leap or mitigation on berserk still good counter for Morgan's invisibility as well as some counter engagement with his ult
