I am still carrying the old SD and just saw this... Now, I also want that SD 2.0 hahahaha. But on the real, I want the SIG too! Oh, the temptation is strong.
I just got an SD9 2.0 my overall thoughts. It’s a great budget pistol. Accurate, trigger is night and day, good grip, sights are okay nothing special. But I like it overall.
I always liked the SD9 overall except the trigger, I'd be interested in picking up a spare pistol and this would be a great contender at that price point.
I just got the M&P bundle with range bag, two 15-round magazines, and two 23-round magazine backstrap and all. From Academy Sports for $473 here in STL Missouri.
Thank you for the video. Im now convinced to buy SD9 2.0. I have other expensive guns shadow system but this $299 Smith and Wesson shoots really good as I tested it from my friend.
I need another 9mm pistol like I need a third eye, but this pistol intrigues me. Extremely tempting. Very nice looking, affordable, and made in the U.S.A. I hope S&W sells zillions of 'em!
I bought an SD9 before I saw this video. I took out to the range. I shot 115, 124 & 147 ( fmj & hollow points ) and it shot great. My shots were a tight circle. No jams. I was pleased.
Nice review! I have an older standard M&P 9, purchased back in 2012, and it's been a great functioning and shooting semi-auto pistol. It's nice to see that Smith and Wesson improved the SD9 which will likely attract more buyers because to the price. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I just purchased and shot my new SD9 2.0 last week. Shot about 75 rounds. I also brought my Glock 19 Gen 5 with me which I’ve had for awhile. I actually enjoyed the SD9 better! Maybe because it was just different. Regardless, felt good in my hand and appeared fairly accurate as per my shooting placement!
Good comparison video. I prefer the M&P series over the Glock pistols. The Sd series pistols are a great option for the budget minded and they're just as reliable as some of the more expensive brands.
@@9770G you're being small minded. I didn't say that I hate Glock, quite the opposite actually. I have 3 Glock pistols and I like them, I just prefer M&P simply because they actually come duty ready unlike Glock.
One thing you forgot to mention is that the SD9 only comes with one magazine. I realize that helps keep the price down, but the competitors come with up to three.
I like the way the SD points and feels in my hand better then the M&P 2.0. I own a M&P just like yours and I had a SDVE and gave it to my nephew just recently as a first gun birthday gift and I loved that SDVE after 1000's of rounds with no malfunctions. I will now be purchasing the SD 2.0, I like it better than the M&P and the Glock the SD feels so much better in the hand which makes me shoot it more accurate and it conceals better then the M&Ps cus the grip is thinner. The SD's may be budget in price but not in quality its a very solid well made gun.
Thinking of getting one these to carry when I’m out of town. Something plain and simple when I got visit family. That way I can leave the expensive firearms at home.
I have a SD9VE. I upgraded the trigger. I also upgrade the Slide Bar and the Take Down Slide Lever to Stainless Steel. I love it. I don't need SD9 2.0. The SD9 2.0 Slide Bar and Take Down Slide Lever needs to be upgraded to Stainless Steel from NDZ Performance.
Thanks for the comparison!!! I have the M&P V1.0 and the old model SD9VE, I also have calipers. The M&P mag is 0.050" wider than the SD mag. Close inspection of the feeding angle looks like the magazines have the same angle. As far as grip angle, these two look to be the same. The big difference is the bottom of the grip and the M&P holds an extra round. Those differences mean that you aren't going to swap mags between them. While I did just pick up this SD9 VE, I'm going to be on the lookout for this new one.
While I was a huge fan of the SD9 VE a few years ago it’s tough for me to choose an SD9 2.0 where I can get a PSA Dagger with an optics cut and a threaded barrel for just a few bucks more. Again, I’m gonna check out the SD9 2.0 as jt looks like a solid carry gun. The only weakness the older SD9 VE had was the polymer guide rod that had some cycling issues.
I have seen 313 shipped for the 2.0 vs 419.00 plus tax with free shipping for the Dagger with suppressor height sights and an rmr cut. I already have both dogs in the fight, but I will get the 2.0 :(
I got my Dagger by buying the frame for $49 and the slide for $199. Obviously not including sales tax or transfer fee but that's generally the cheapest way to get it. I know slide prices are up now but they have sales all the time. BTW I'd still get the 2.0 haha @@jonbrown1341
The only time modifications matter is if they can reveal intent that a prosecutor could use against you in court. Keep the paperwork from gunsmith, my sd9ve is far better after modifications.
Just bought an SD 9 2.0 today. Trigger feels fine to me. I have other handguns, I just wanted one dedicated to just home defense. I have an extra headlight for it. I normally carry a 43X for EDC.
Excellent review.. Personally I think the SD9 is The better of the two and even though I can afford the m&p I would buy the SD9. Many years ago I had a Sigma which was a great gun but the trigger did suck. Other than that no complaints.
@@colt10mmsecurity68 I like to spend as little money as possible on something that will get the job done... I am guessing you are someone who feels the need to have the big name brands to impress other people.
@@propdoctor21564 Not exactly. I just realize that I can afford better quality and I don’t have to settle on cheap “Harbor Freight-like” stuff for my defensive needs. I figure if it’s a model and brand that not even police departments nor military would issue to troops, why on earth would anyone else settle for that junk themselves? I’ve said it before, skip three Saturday night dinners and you too can then afford to upgrade the additional cost for a better brand.
I got my M&P9 M2.0 Compact 4" inch 15+1 brand new for $350 right when the updated version came out. I wish I had the new trigger so bad rather than that ish hinged trigger, but still an amazing gun. Love it.
The SD9VE was my first pistol. I ended up getting the Galloway Precision Boudica Flat Faced Trigger and reduced power spring kit in it, made a huge difference..... But man the SD9 2.0 seems to be everything I wanted the original to be. When the Equalizer came out I was like man those slide serations would look awesome on the SD9.... And check it out! What I didn't expect was the trigger upgrades. I did not expect them to upgrade the trigger because I figured they wouldn't jeopardize the M&P sales.... But I am happy to see it. I gotta pick one up.
I have the sw9ve, it was the first pistol i bought 20 yrs ago. Damn i feel old saying that. I shot it as recent as about 6 months ago, still has never given me a problem with so many rds thru i lost count yrs ago. I think ill pick up this new version as the original has clearly passed the test of time for me.
My carry Weapon was a Glock 19, i saw the SD9 2.0 and Bought It. Took it to the Range, Ran 300 rounds through it fresh out of the Box, No Problems at all. Great gun. I put the Glock up and now the SD9 2.0 is now my Carry weapon. Just ran better to me
If I could legally purchase one here in CO, I would - just to have it. Unfortunately, we have a ridiculous 15 round mag capacity limit. If S&W offered it in 15 rounds, I'd be happy to own one.
@@armeddefenderI know you've done a review on the SDVE's, I guess you don't still have the previous model. I would think the older mags would work in the new model. I know that's a big leap for some but changing the mags wouldn't make sense from a manufacturer point of view. Just my ¢.02.
I just sold my sd9ve last month to get the bul armory cherokee ..shot it for the first time yesterday at the range... I dont really care for it...going to get rid of it to get the sd9 2.0..
I've had a M&P 2.0 for years, it has been my favorite pistol since I bought it. I picked up a SD 9 2.0 a couple of days ago based purely on price alone. I am anxious to see how it compares to my M&P.
I had the Shield Plus, and the gripping was aggressive that it felt like sandpaper. To me, it was miserable to grip even with my calluses. The grip texturing is nicer on the SD. I had to put a Hogue on the Smith so that could carry IWB without wearing my skin raw.
Do you know the dimension of the rear sights (and forward sights) dovetail cut out? It looks like it's smaller than the usual M&P9 2.0, so I guess I won't be able to use sights not made specifically for the Competitor. The reason for this is I am looking for some rear sights with fiber installed
I recently bought the MP9 2.0, it listed for $589 yet got it on clearance for $389. The pistol feels great in my hand but different, of course, from my Shield Plus due to longer barrel.
I had 2 gripes with the SD9 1.0. the trigger and the take down lever. The take down lever I had to use my fingernails and was a PITA. I replaced the trigger with a flat face one and extended take down grip. What are your thoughts on the take down grips on the 2.0?
If S&W was smart, they'd add a 2.0 in 40 S&W to the lineup. S&W is missing out, they won't sell parts. They could offer 357 Sig barrels to go in the SD40. They could offer build options on their website for folks who want better sights. They should offer an optic cut. S&W probably doesn't care, because they ship thousands of SD series every month. It's a loss leader item for them, meant to attract a first time buyer who might otherwise buy a Taurus or a Ruger. They want that buyer to reach for an M&P when they want and can afford something better. It's escaped them that upgrading something yourself is fun, many people do it just like they customize vehicles. They SHOULD have made the mags interchangeable from the get -go. That might've enticed me to get an M&P , same with the barrels, how hard could it have been? So, they've made minor changes to the slide, improved the trigger to steal sales from Apex, Galloway Precision, and MCarbo.
I have an sd9 with the light attached… unfortunately I can’t find a ccw holster for my model with a light (some without the light) I have found some for the mp with light… do you think they would interchange in a holster considering size is so similar?
Did smith and wesson found a fix yet on the sd9 2.0 triggers failure to fire.I really like it and I'm interested at this budget gun than the Taurus G3C.
They will require the LCI in California. The handgun roster infringement is still in place minus the micro stamping requirement.I used a Low profile LCI from Apex trigger. They also make a delete package.
Can't afford? I think the question is value for the money. I noticed the SD9 comes with one magazine. My opinion you need at least two for me three. IF, the MP9 has the typical two you must add $30 plus to the real price on the SD9. Interchangeable mags? In double stack I have 10, 12, 15 and 17-no 16. Putting a bigger mag into a smaller pistol requires a spacer to fit well they are not cheap and some are not even made. Far as S&W I am a fan. I own six pistols and five are S&W. Not brand loyalty it is all opinion but my opinion in each choice was value for the money. Pistols do seem to multiply. Ammo-most talk about 500 rounds to break it in. That is minimum $250 for target ammo. Plus a couple of boxes of far more expensive defense ammo.
The OG SDVE is just a thinner lighter 2.0 with a better slide/serrations/release the STOCK trigger is fine don’t call it trainer glock for nothing 😂just stipple sights and lights, folks shouldn’t even touch a glock till they’ve mastered a oem SD9 but still one of the best carry compacts out I EDC both SD9VE/🛡+TS most comfy EDCs out especially download SD to 10/12rd EDC in 🏖,and the old version will be under $300 new also fits Mp9 full size light holsters(tlr1 👑),smith is as low as you go never ♉️only get the G2C will eat all HPs the G3/3Cs are finicky
What do you mean they are 'not in competition with each other'?? They are almost neck to neck with each other and I actually prefer the S & W. Size, dimensions, specs, reliability and reputation are almost identical. SMH
