The first SD9VE was my first 9mm. It was a really good first gun and I never had a single reliability issue with it. The trigger was really bad, but I think that actually helped me learn good fundamentals. This version looks like a step up.
I agree I actually liked the trigger when I first bought mine but after getting more into it I realized the beauty of a good trigger I just wish they would make a sd40 2.0 also optic ready because my sd40ve is super reliable and accurate imo
@@vicv7075 I just got it this past Thursday and it’s been raining ever since so I haven’t had a chance to live fire. Trigger pull seems solid enough on dry fire though I can’t see it being garbage but I’ll let you know
@@blackicekck9family379 I might wait it out for the SD40 2.0 I’m sure it’s coming. But I’ve wanted the G3C for so long. It was supposed to be my first gun but I always ended up going with something else once I got to the shop
@@RahRighteous any feed back would be great. I have the full size APX A1 and it’s pretty dang nice that’s why I’ve considered picking up the compact but a lot of reviews I’ve read mentioned the trigger being horrible. Hopefully it’s been fixed or they were lies so I can pick one up😂
I still have my sd9ve and sd40ve and they both came with 2 mags 13 years ago. 100% reliable and accurate. The S&W warranty is top notch. These days I’d prefer a dagger for $299 though.
I've always loved the SD line. Great pistol. It's the only glock clone I've ever liked. But like I'm always complaining about. They cut corners on the recoil spring. The 9mm and the .40 share a spring. For 40 its no big deal. But in 9mm it can causes ejection issues with weakly loaded 9mm. Id bet 90% of SDs that have issues would be resolved with the reduced power recoil spring that is sold online by a few companies. I have to be the only weirdo that actually liked the gen 1 trigger. Once you learn to stage it the pistol is a real tack driver. Great buy SPN.
I like what I see in the SD9 2.0. But I bought a SD9VE used a year ago. But I could not get liking the Trigger. I installed a Apex Trigger and upgrade the Slide Bar/Slide Lock to stainless steel. After the upgrades of my SD9VE. It is a pleasure to shoot. No malfunctions. Total cost of Gun and upgrades. About $390.00.
Back when they released the first versions of this..I had my first Glock 37 and a Taurus pt24 7..I almost bought that version smith countless times..maybe now..looks nice!
I had the original SD9 in black and grey a few years ago but sold it. I couldn’t get past the trigger but i’ll be damned if i say it didn’t go bang everytime i pulled it. May get this one as a backup/glove box gun 👌🏾
I had the first generation SD9. I love the build quality but I sold it for CZP10C. The build qualities about the same but that triggers just uncomparable. Hopefully this updated version is better.
The lack of a second mag kind of rubs me wrong, but you can actually get the 2.0 and 2 spare mags for less than the first generation, at least at my store, so I'm not that upset.
@@TTime685 Possibly, but I've noticed the SD VE guns go up in price about $150 on average since 2020, while Sig, Glock, and Taurus have actually come down in price slightly in that time. Really $300ish is where the SD series should have stayed.
For a truck/tackle/toolbox or the buy and hopento never need use, a decent option. Used hinge trigger m&p 2.0's and even 1.0's can be had for a little bit more and with better features. Side note: would it be worth trading in a standard glock 30 for the 30s? My lgs has a used 30s just wondering if its worth the switch
1st gen sd9ve was supposed to be my first gun. Till the guy at the gun counter convinced me to get the 1st gen M&P for just 20$ more I’m glad I got the m&p
We’re in the age of cheap throwaways that are actually reliable. That’s the way I see it. If I had no money and I needed a pistol, that SD would do just fine.
I’ve had one for years i don’t care about the trigger its not a problem this is a home defense gun and that’s all it fits my big hands well I put a sure fire lite on it because like ClintSmith says you want to see what you just put a hole in
I am strongly thinking of getting one. My grandfather had an original 90s sigma he hated it. But this gun has gotten more modern. I can’t stand Glocks mainly being from Massachusetts and the unobtainable prices on them as it’s hard to get a newer Glock legally in MA.
Im really hoping they make the 2.0 in 40, I'm kind of holding out for it. Then again im also considering going to revolvers entirely, my EDC had been the EC9s for the last 3 years. Only about 1000 rounds through it and its giving me issues. Between that and my experience with the DB380 I'm strongly considering going to revolvers 100%, never thought Id be the "6 for sure beat 12 maybes" guy but im getting close. Perhaps I need a Glock!
@spnfirearms I'm really considering it, I had the 42 for a while but I could not pocket carry that thing. It just looked like a brick in my pocket. Now I kind of regret selling that. My other semi auto is a Taurus G3C and now I'm like if I can't trust my ruger to work how the hell can I trust a Taurus? Ruger thinks it might be the magazines so they sent me replacements. Should be going to the range soon, if it works ill be thrilled. If I have to replace my mags every 2 years then so be it.
@@dkthegamer23 9mm hollows and 45 hollows literally the same. Why has the fbi and military switched over to 9mm then? What about special forces and swat? L bozo
I love lines on the top strap of the slide, ala ppq. Amazing they did that on a budget gun. Memory pads are worthless. I have a bunch of different pistols so I just shoot with my thumbs in the air. Works fine. Only time I don't is when I shoot my 1911. In which case my thumb rides the safety.
I still have my original sigma I bought in 2004 , I've got over 5k rounds it's never jambed and it could be better with a different trigger but I paid 179.99 at KY sports unlimited I still have my original recipe and case they used to come with 2 mags I wouldn't part with it for a new Glock.
I also want to get a SD9VE not a 9mm fan but they are still required has being part of a Tool box , like my 40 , and larger caliber pistols for up close if needed and 9mm and lower for back up, it's like having a 9mm or 10 mm wrenches, right tool for the job 🤔 but both are required for a tool box ☑️
If you ever buy another budget gun you should review the beretta apx centurion. Or the a1 compact. I know I’m a fanboy but it was 300-350 dollars and it’s my most reliable piece 🤷♂️
That trigger reset is something that needs to be addressed Breaking in the gun will not change the trigger reset that is way too long and needs to be corrected.
Had the new Gen 4 DB380, 3 trips back to the factory they gave me a refund on the 4th trip. I loved everything about it except for it being unreliable. I really wanted it to work out and believe me I tried. Had it been reliable I'd say it's what the Glock 42 should have been. I now have the LCP I should have gotten in the first place. How the DB380 costs more than the original LCP right now is beyond me.
@@magnum_0710 that’s really upsetting because the DB380 is lighter and smaller than the LCP, it’s almost like a 32ACP. How heavy was the recoil spring compared to the LCP? The DB9 recoil spring is heavy “for reasons” but I was hoping the DB380 was lighter. The LCP is cheap because Ruger is trying to get rid of inventory, once it’s gone it will be discontinued like the LCP 2. I like the LCP Max but I like the thinner grip.
@chrisp1601 the recoil spring is different but I wouldn't say heavier, listen I loved everything about the DB380 and I tried everything I could to make it work. I spent enough money on ammo to buy 2 LCPs and that's not including what I paid for it originally. Neither I or Diamondback could get it to work. I had the Gen 3 first, trigger bar bent after 300 rounds, they sent it back but it looked like the bent part was cut off. When I asked about it they decided to replace it with the Gen 4. Surprisingly the Gen 3 was more reliable even the Gen 4 was supposed to be the more reliable version
I made the mistake of buying this particular pistol. The polymer frame is made of very hard plastic that has a shiny appearance to it. The trigger is really bad. Overall the pistol feels really cheap. It's definitely a low priced 9mm pistol that will serve the purpose for someone who can't or does not want to spend several hundred dollars for something better.
It’s ran flawlessly so far s and the trigger is only “really bad” to straight up trigger snobs. If you can’t shoot this pistol good then idk if you should own one. Go watch my live shooting review, it’s a tack driver
Please take it from personal experience, don't waste your money on a Kahr firearm. What I'm about to tell you is NOT an exaggeration. I bought a Kahr 9mm. I really liked the way it felt in my hands. I had three mags for it. I couldn't get through 1 mag without 2, 3 or more malfunctions. Kahr said there was a break in period. No problem except I was far past the 250 round break in that Kahr recommended. I polished the feed ramp and got it to run a mag or two, but then right back to jamming up. I traded it for a Springfield XDM in 45acp at the same shop I bought the Kahr from. I don't, nor will I ever own a Kahr firearm. Just thought I'd share my experience with Kahr.
I remember I had the SD40 VE the first version and it was junk what failure to feed every other round sent it back said they fixed it but they did not it did the same thing ended up selling it I will never ever get one of these again I think they are junk buyers beware especially of the first version
I’d Stick to the OG SD just leave it STOCK internally stipple the grip/finger rest/trigger pad/half-underguard, sights n lights and shoot it till something breaks if it ever does 😂,and really stick too old hinge triggered SW’s are tanks (SD9VE/2.0s MP9/40/🛡/🛡+ too) there’s absolutely nothing wrong with those triggers folks need to learn to shoot shouldnt even be allowed to touch a glock till they mastered a stock SD dont call them trainer glocks for nothing 🎯😎🧐,the OG SD9VE factory trigger is fine wears in perfect safe for noobs/falls/grapples,the SD9VE/G19 are lightest EDC compacts out especially downloaded 10/12rd EDC,till this day SD9/🛡+TS best comfy budget combo but never ♉️🚮 the SD is as Low as you ever go for reliable hollow eater new$350 max/used $250 max 2 mags
Better stoeger 9 compact less price $50.00 rebate and beretta apx 1 compact same price $100.00 rebate i choose beretta apx 1 compact same price with beretta hardcase and 2 quality magazines not one, two
Save a little bit more and get a beretta apx a1 for anyone that wants a great budget gun. I have shot 4 and all have been flawless with no problems. These smith and wessons are a bit garbage
