Somebody once said "necessity is the mother of invention"... In my life I'm certain it's " laziness is the mother of invention"! Exelent setup you got there Pat. awesome video thanks man!
Pat, my first handgun was the 627-5. It’ll be passed down to my great grand kids. So great to see someone else that has it. It’s such a great, expertly crafted handgun; a work of art really. I’ll be making the speed loader holder you shared, great idea! -Blessings!
Nice custum wood dowel moonclip holder with rounds....I dig the set up....That loading and unloading tool is a nice piece to have to make it quicker and save the digits....Love the wheel gun...Good stuff...
I love those revolvers. I like them so much my logo is based on those moon clips. Never tried that loading tool, but I do have the Brownells demooner. Good idea on the storage.
This Past Friday, I finally got my 986 that I had Eli from TK work his magic on. Also got this Moon clip loading and unloading tools from TK what a pleasure to use. And I’m borrowing your idea with Ammo Box.
I use little fishing tackle box trays to store and transport moon clips. The trays fit in my medium size range bag and each one holds 24 moon clips. Factory 38s are about the longest that will fit in the ones I have. Each clip is protected from being bent, works great. Find you a tray that holds your ammo and then find a bag to fit the tray and you'll be set.
I should have shown this box in my range bag. It's pretty big and leaves room for other stuff. Keep in mind, as a RU-vidr, I have a tripod and whatnot with me too.
@@PatRMG, yep of course. You can get them in all sizes. I've only been running moon clips for about 2 years now in competitions, but the trays are my favorite setup so far. I buddy rigged up some pegs like yours, he digs it. The sloppiest I've seen are a husband and wife pair of sponsored wheel gunners who just throw theirs in a bag and roll with it. When you're as good as those 2, you can do what you want.
I'm a new subscriber and I'm glad I found your page. I bought a 627-5 today and this is right on time for me. The is a far better solution for speedy reloads than HKS (pretty crumby) or other Speed Loaders. There's always "The New York Reload"; pull a second revolver, lol.
@@PatRMG Has it ever happened to blow up the barrel of this revolver by inserting a bullet into the barrel without realizing it? Queria poder portar um deste no Brazil.
@@ricardoferreirapitsch761 are you talking about bullet jump or a squib load? I had one where only my primer ignited on my 629, (probably oil got into my powder). Fortunately it locked the gun up and I didn’t end up getting another cartridge behind it.
@@john-paulsilke893 Good afternoon. On the exploding drum, in any situation whatsoever. I thought it depended a lot on the brand, but I knew that the revolvers are designed to blow up the drum so as not to blow the sniper's hand.
@@ricardoferreirapitsch761 yes, usually the barrel blows off or the top of the cylinder goes left and right. (In either case the gun is garbage afterwards).
Very nice box idea, im going to start making one. I have the blue tool, but need the case removal tool. I have a S&W model 325 in 45. ACP, very accurate and light
I have a 627 V-Comp. Had one of the TK Custom moon clip loaders from shooting a 686+ PC. It is a 7 shot 686 with a cyclinder cut for moon clips. Turns out you can just buy a another mandrel for the TKC loader that allows you to load 625, 686+ and 627 moon clips. The different size mandrels are held on from the back with a screw. I have that exact same box for carrying moon clips. I just put a folded clean bar towel in the bottom and stack the moon clips bullets down. There is enough give in the towel they stay in place. Put another towel folded on top of those and I can have layer 2. A couple of years back moon clips were dirt cheap. So I bought a bunch. If one gets bent chuck it. They are impossible to fix. BMT makes a nice loader that is caliber and model specific but they don't give it away.
Just need the N frame 627, and you have the perfect setup. That ammo case is dope as heck brotha. Thanks for the tip. Ima get me some doves pretty soon! 😅
Havent tried mine with Starline brass yet, good to hear it works well since I have 4k casing in 10mm Magnum and .45. I did find the TK Custom Moon Clips dont work well with 10mm. Double tap. They fit way to loose!!!! They do however fit the RIMZ EZ poly moon clips.
@@PatRMG Sweet. It probably didn't make the news down there but our soy-boy prime minister trudeau banned pretty much all semi auto rifles yesterday, more than 1500 platforms effective immediately. Total BS
Be advised, there is a lot of ammo out there that won’t load into the TK clips...you’ll bend and break three to load one and probably bend that one the next time you use it. TK is GREAT with product returns, but I recommend the SpeedBeez 8 round clips (.38 special/.357 mag) and an Original Precision mooner (www.originalprecision.com/universal-moonclip-tool.html). If you’re running anything but pretty much super premium ammo, you’re going to bend/break these things. Know, too, that the SpeedBeez are pricey, but worth it.
I ran a variety of brass in these clips and had no problems. I've got some of the thicker steel ones that were picky, but these thinner ones took everything I had but the aluminum cased stuff.
I'm looking for an affordable gun, ether an auto or a revolver, but anything affordable is like gone. I'd like to get a Hi Point 45, but try finding one now.
@@jamespugh what's a royal king? isn't that like a redundant name? Walmart sucks so bad going in there now... I don't wanna if I don't have to. they don't sell handguns any more anyway, least the one nearest me doesn't. While I prefer long guns or at least carbines for general use, they're unweildy for home defense and concealed or even open carry. One pawn shop had a relatively cheap 12 gauge, but the barrel must have been at least 4 feet long. I didn't look at it closely just too impractical for my present needs. I have a very old well used Colt 45, but it's getting long in the tooth, it really needs some shop time and new parts.. by the time I did all that, I'd have the price of a new one in it, at least. I know the Hi Point isn't the best, but it will do the job and fits my hand well. Shoulda bought it when I had the chance but I was tapped from putting tires on my Suv, when did tires get so damn expensive? I'll find something. heck a decent 38 Special revolver will do, if I can find one with the right grips or the right grips to fit it. Standard grips don't do it for my large hands. Hell I could even make grips for it as far as that goes.
He probably meant Rural King. They're local to me. Very nice farm/hardware/ gun store. Large with decent prices. I literally leave money at home when I go there because they have EVERYTHING.
Never saw those before. Would be cool to load night before you go to range and unload when you get home and reload. Any safety or performance issues with having extra metal in between🤙
I'm more of a speedloader guy. And I've never been a fan of the 627, mainly because of the barrel shape. But this whole system has me rethinking my philosophy. Guess ill just have to get an eight shot revolver and some TK custom tools. You know, in the name of objectivity lol
@@PatRMG it definitely stands 9ut. I guess when I got into guns I just imprinted on the sleeker, rounded profile of older guns. If I look at it long enough it really is a handsome revolver all its own
I’ve shot a 627 in 3 gun firing pudd loads. It was like shooting a .22lr. If you do go this way keep a few .38+P or .357 magnum rings handy for knock down targets. (The 929 is probably a better choice though but I had access to the 327 so that what I shot). I used to shoot with a couple of weird guys who were so good that it was a competition to them so they would buy a box of crap guns and show up cold with them to shoot. I’m not the greatest competition myself but they would offer other people their random guns, (always checked by a gunsmith for safety) and one time that 627 was in the box. I shot it in 3 events before the owner sold it for a mystery box of Norinco clones.
like a down home version of Tractor supply? I remember when most all hardware stores carried at least some guns. After all, in the rural life it's just a tool, like any other. Heck back in the day, prior to 68, I could go to the store and buy my own ammo, or even a 22 rifle. After 68, that all changed, but by then I was old enough to buy my ammo anyway, and could still buy a long gun, but like now you have to be 21 for a hand gun, I wasn't yet.
Rural King is better than Tractor Supply. I actually have the restraint to leave Tractor Supply spending less than $20. TS is child's play compared to RK.
@@PatRMG well might be a diff story if they had deals on guns and ammo. The ones around here don't carry guns and ammo. I can go in, look around and buy nothing,
I hope you get to experience a Rural King soon. They're magic. I bought some batteries for my boat, an oil change for my truck, oogled some guns. Then, bought a 5 dollar t shirt that fits just right.
@@PatRMG I just checked their online store. they're sold out of the Hi point 45 like everyone else. Don't go there any time soon, they have hammerless smith in 38. special on sale.
Haven't been carrying the 327 much, to be honest. I've carried it a little in a Wright Leather works outside waistband. It's a bit pricey but very comfortable.
.by the way, when Rural King has the Hi point 45s, they are at a wicked low price. they had them at 159.95 everyday price. Now, I know you're gonna say they're not good, but in fact they are, FOR THE MONEY. They're a bit rough to begin with, but 2 or 3 hundred rounds they get real sweet. If you have the knowledge and ability to take one apart and polish all the working parts, they get real sweet real fast. I got that from what I consider a reliable source, and yes they ARE MADE IN THE USA! decent gun cheap price, made in the USA, you really can't do better... for the money at least
@@PatRMG well they aren't sigs, but they aren't sig priced either. I like their 45 for one good reason, it fits my hand better than any other I've tried.
@@PatRMG a large frame revolver in 38 special and up would do. course, if I was made of money, my all time fave is the 50 DE. Talk about a gun that fits my hand... heavy sumgun tho. The Main character of 8 of my books carries one, (at least) but has it magnaported and uses light loads... mostly. Later in the books she goes to frangible rounds and also packs a replica of a Thompson, with full auto capability. She's perfectly legal to do so since her friend the President got her a Presidential investigator badge that trumps any other. As she takes down arms dealers, she not only takes the arms, but their money too, so they can never go back in business. She becomes one that really isn't about arrests, she's about true justice. As a former FBI agent, it's quite a transformation.
Hey man I just got mine and am new to the party but apparently it’s difficult to find holsters for these. If anybody has any recommendations I’d appreciate it, I have the 5 inch 627 Edit: it will be used for hiking.
