In this video Eric takes one of his recent acquisitions from Moss Pawn and Gun to the range for a little fun. The E-Series 1911s from Smith and Wesson are different from standard models in that they feature a lightweight Scandium frame and round butt with full front and rear checkering, making them a great option for a single stack 45ACP carry gun. Stay tuned, much more on the way.

Eric, I'm glad you liked it. It's been my EDC since I retired from 33 years of Army service last year. It's a tac driver, and functions flawlessly. I run Hornady 220 grain Critical Duty. Enjoy!

I purchased one of these back in 2012. The weight of it is great, solid build quality and the trigger is really nice. I'd highly recommend picking up one of these if you're in the market for a nice, decently priced 4.25 barreled 1911.

I have had this same gun in the all black version...never had a hiccup and always runs. I chaned out my sights to 10-8 fiber optic front with u-notch rear, but the gun itself is amazing and really comfortable for EDC.

I love mine, the only complaint I had was the gritty, and heavy to operate safety. It was gritty because the surface where the plunger met the safety was rough and not anywhere near smooth, and heavy due to the angle of the lobe that the plunger has to overcome. I used some fine grit paper and a Dremel and solved both of those issues. After doing that, the safety is smooth and easier to manipulate (Much more like my Kimber) The factory trigger is great, the extractor has been flawless in feeding and ejecting rounds (300 fired so far) Its a work of art, and that light frame and shorter barrel are really nice. Even shooting +P 230 Gr Federal HST it is really manageable.

Hey Eric and Chad, why don't you guys think about making a 1911 from an 80% frame and make multiple video series of you guys completing the frame (decking the top, rails, barrel seat, pin holes) and putting all of the parts together to have a very cool DIY 1911? I'm in the middle of my 80% 1911 right now and I'd love to see my favorite you tube gun channel do one from an 80%! I'm sure you guys have a lot on your plate and lots of plans, but think about it!

Definitely snappier than a full-sized but of the other 1911's I own its quickly become my favorite for its size, light weight, great sights... If you'd be willing to put out another $400 over a vanilla Ruger, Remington, Springfield...they'd be dollars well-spent.

Since you say you don't know what to say about a 1911 you are reviewing, let me suggest a few things: 1. How long is the barrel? 2. Is it a series 70 or 80? 3. What is the trigger pull weight? 4. How much does the gun weigh?

I own the full size 5" Barrel E-Series. Purchased it 2019. LOVE it. Two criticisms. 1) Those Slide serations SUCK!! Forget getting any good grip if your hand is the least bit moist. Give me the old school sharp serations. These not only look stupid but are very shallow and very smooth. Two features that make slide serrations USELESS 2) The factory sights were way too small. No big deal, I purchased Dawson Precision Fiber Optics front and rear. $75 and made in USA!! They were easy to swap out and Dawson has installation instructions right here on RU-vid. The vids are a good 20 minutes long as well and explain every step in great detail!! The wood grips are beautiful but made the gun too "fat" for my hands. I have Hogue rubbers on all my other 1911's so I simply slapped a pair on the S&W and it's perfect I myself got rid of the recoil spring guide rod. It made field stripping difficult. It also prevents "press checks" I simply purchased a stainless Steel end cap from numerich ( total $17 ) as well as a the small, conventional 1911 spring guide. Other than the external extractor (which is a fantastic feature) and Titanium firing pin, S&W built this gun to traditional 1911 dimensions so the swap required no modifications of either part. The gun lost NO accuracy nor function without the useless guide rod. This is NOT a series 80 instead S&W uses a very light titanium firing pin to avoid problems with assholes that drop a 1911 in condition one from ten feet onto a hard surface. The pistol is a tack driver. I like the heavy but CRISP trigger. It almost feels like a 2 stage trigger. I know a lot of people will not believe me but fresh out of the box, I gave it a quick clean & lube before shooting it. I have NOT experienced one FFTF or FFTE. I LOVE the external extractor as well. I use PMC brass 230 grain copper jacket and also Selloit & Bellier. I also fired some Red Army Standard (Tulla) 230 grain, copper jacketed STEEL case. The gun performed just as well. The Tulla performs well BUT is very filthy. Not a problem as Slip 2000 works great

Up there in cost with a Kimber, but much better quality. Kimber has some real issues with QC to this day. To their credit, they can generally get the gun running if it has issues, but at that cost, it shouldnt have those issues. My E-Series eats anything I can throw at it from hot 175gr handloads, personal defense rounds, to the crappiest ball ammo I can find. Outstanding and underrated gun. Think of it more as a factory custom, and less of a production line gun.

It's probably like the caution warning on IMI ammo. "Don't give ammo to your kids and pets" "Don't put it in a gun that wasn't made for this ammo" "Don't throw it in fire" "We are not responsible for any damage caused to human or to objects with this ammo" and some other silly things every gunowner should know. They just want to get sure that you can't sue them when you're five year old son shot your dog with the ammo and rifle he found under your bed.

It's a shame that the Performance Center 'commander' similar to this 1911 DOESN'T have Night sights, considering it's also made for concealed carry. Not sure what S&W was thinking at the time. Great Review IV8888! Keep the 1911's coming! Wouldn't mind a review of the SIG Sauer 1911 Fastback Nightmare Carry! As a comparison! Fingers crossed.
