Smith & Wesson M&P Safety Removal and Frame Plug Install 

My first M&P acquired today., I did a search for this procedure and this was the first video, exactly what I needed. Thank you!

This helps move more units for shops. The safety versions are always cheaper so this is a nice option to have! Great video!

Good video! I have a M&P 10 and a 45 I've been meaning to remove those safeties from both. Got around to it today. They must have change some in design though. The ones I have didn't have a spring on the safety lever, I spent time looking around for it, figured it poped off or something, but the 2nd gun I didn't see one either. I put in the plugs and went to try to put in the firing block, but the back side of the plugs were in the way. I found the only way to get the plugs in was to put the block in about 70/80% of the way for the side with the thicker plug, that allowed enough room, and around 80/90% for the thin one.

Took me 20-25 minutes. Had some issues to get the block back. But after some patience it worked. Thnx for the instructions.

As far as the sear housing group not seating properly, I had the same problem reasembling my compact. I finally figured out that the cross pin that holds the sear in place had backed out approx 1/16 of an inch preventing the unit from going all the way down.

Great video. I just picked up the M&P 9c with the safety because it was one sale. The lever is ridiculously too big! I’m glad they figured that out and didn’t put that on the Shield. Anyhow, great video and thanks

Good video 👍. I am searching for the oversized grip safety that is on the ez380 pro. The regular ex 380 needs a taller grip safety to improve reliability. Sometimes when working from the holster and a perfect grip is not acquired it will not fire. If you have any information on this I would appreciate it. Thanks and have a good one

Anyone else hate that the manual safety is so low that your thumb flicks it upward to safe while firing? Why does my cheap Taurus know where to properly place a thumb safety that doesn’t interfere with functionality? This is the ONLY handgun I’ve had this issue with as far as a thumb safety is concerned

I greatly appreciate the instruction. Didn't work for me though. For whatever reason, my frame has an indentation around the hole for the safety on the left side. Plug is all sloppy and sticks out way to far.

A giant flat head is not the tool I would used to pry against the locking block, that's a good way to mar up the polymer frame. Plastic pry tool for sure

I wonder if this procedure will work with the Internal hammer Shield EZ. It appears to have the same frame pin setup. No time like the present to give it a try.

I wrote to S&W and they wrote me back saying, "we do not carry any plugs to allow for that type of conversion. We do not recommend this." Is there a different place I can purchase the plugs?

I put a drop of oil on the sear block and it popped right in.

know this is an older video, but does the plug prevent that silver pin from moving out and prevent malfunctioning.

Is it possible to put the safety back on once it has been removed? Asking because S&W says I would void the warranty if I remove the safety.

My right plug is too fat to insert, left is good. Can the GS file it down for fit,?

Is this similar as the 9mm version? I just picked up one and I want to change the trigger to and Apex kit which is what my 2 pistols already have and remove the saftey.

Thanks for the great video. What are the minimum essential tools for the plug installation. My dealer removed the safety for me a month ago and I just received the plugs. I also want to perform a DIY trigger job on a 686 with a spring kit and need to tools for that, of course. Suggestions appreciated!

Curious ... why remove the thumb safety, as there isn't a trigger safety like on a Glock ...

Question for you.. I bought a used M&P full-sized 40 without a manual safety sometime back, and paid a guy to add a manual safety. He did so, but there's no spring tension on it. He moved before I could get it back to him to get resolved. My question is about the spring on the trigger block that provides the needed tension. This is such a really small part (literally) that the black color and the darkened backdrop of the gun makes video of it really tough to discern.. Is that needed part available for replacement, and what is the proper name for it so I can obtain what I need to have a normally functioning manual safety? Thanks..

I am going to be doing the opposite and installing the frame safety.

Just called Smith and Wesson customer service, what a letdown. Had the same issue with the thumb safety as everyone else but was told if I wanted the frame plugs I would have to pay ten dollars plus shipping for them. I asked about the warranty and was told I could send it back and they would check it out. Does it make sense to pay for. shipping and repairs .

Like a fool, I watched the video and now I ruined my gun. I have no idea how this thing goes together or where to go for help. WARNING: if you are removing the safety from an EZ model like the Shield EZ 9mm DO NOT remove the safety detent spring and pin those are needed to keep the metal in the socket. IF you leave that out it can fall out of place then it WILL NOT FIRE!!!!!!

Hey guys, I have a 2nd job doing armed security, and I was wondering if I delete my safety off my SW Compact, will it leave me prone to getting in trouble legally if I ever used the gun, vs if I left the safety on it? I’ve been looking for the information but haven’t had too much luck finding an answer. I hear you just have to buy the gun without a safety in the first place, which is rediculous. This is a duty gun, so any input from anyone would be appreciated.

I cannot for the life of me get the sear housing block back into the pistol. Trigger bar is in place. Plugs are properly installed. I wish I bought a Glock. This thing is a piece of shit!

That thumb saftey is right in the way when cocking it. It is very annoying and prefer my firearms with only the trigger safteys.
