I wanted a way of turning the compressor off remotely, as its mounted in rear of pajero/ montero where the kids 6 and 7 seats used to be. Never thought of pressure switch idea, i purchased a Wireless Remote 12V 24V 120A 200A Battery Switch Relay Control Disconnect from ebay about 30 AUD or 20 usd, i wired it to a twin core cable with anderson plugs on both ends as compressor had previously had an anderson connection. In between tyre inflation i can give it rest and let the air hose go slack by pressing the air trigger. These compresor units are sold in many different colors here in Australian camping stores and auto outlets. The hose and gauge that come with are not great i upgraded to flexzilla and a decent trigger and guage.

So mine works but after about 20-30 seconds after stopping airflow the compressor kicks on for 1-2 seconds and then cuts off and continues Is this normal? I assumed it would stay off completely until I engaged air flow. Or is it just losing pressure somewhere?

Anything below 70 the compressor will run. This is just to shutoff the compressor if there is a shutoff valve. You still need to watch your own pressure for the tire.

Covet, when you attached the M12x1.25 adapter to the compressor's air outlet, was this a smooth fit or did you get an 'unnatural' sensation of jamming after about 2.5 to 3 turns? I did, but with a little tape and pipe dope I got a good seal anyway. Everything works great after the update. Thanks for the great video. One recommendation to ease the somewhat 'fiddly' re-assemble step: Remove the baseplate before reattaching the cap with all the connections inside. This will give you more room to fit the cap behind the triangular chrome cover which extends down from the air outlet connection.

Great video. I just did the pressure switch mod and have a question, if you don't mind. Is it unusual for the fittings at the compressor to get pretty hot? I actually did the mod right after buying the compressor; so, I don't have a pre-mod comparison to see if it is hotter or just common. I set up a hose system where I can air up all four of my Jeep tires at once; so, the compressor runs a bit longer than if I were just airing up one tire at a time. Will the compressor still shut off if it overheats? Thanks again for your videos. They are very helpful and much appreciated.
@covetthecamper2289
@covetthecamper2289 3 года назад
Hi Tim, Yes, the fittings do get very hot. They do before the mod as well. That’s the main reason there’s a heat shield on the main handle. Mine actually runs much cooler now with the pressure switch mod because it’s not running the entire time.

@covetthecamper2289
@covetthecamper2289 3 года назад
If you’re letting the compressor run long enough to build pressure to the switch and it’s not shutting off at the pressure switch specified pressure, then you might have a faulty pressure switch. Take the switch out of the line, cap the T where the switch was and run compressor. If it shuts off at pressure, confirmed bad switch. You can verify by doing an ohm test on the switch.

What is the size of the black rubber hose? 1/4" NPT MALE on the end that threads into the brass tee but what size is the barbed end? That adapter for air outlet, virtually impossible to get here in Canada. I ordered from an unknown supplier. Lets hope it gets here. M12x1.25, super hard to find. I like the compressor. Very strong. I purchased it for my Class A motorhome. I need big pressures. Tires are cold rated at 110 psi, I run 88 psi. Ridiculous that it doesn't come with a pressure shut off. I used mine the first time and I had to let it run a little bit with the relief valve popping. Compressor was on the other side of Motorhome. I didn't like that at all, I don't think my neighbors at the park liked it either. I was actually quite surprised on how quiet the compressor runs minus the relief valve popping. HaHa. I am going to do a 110 - 140 switch as I need almost a 100 psi. Thanks for the great video.

No. The compressor will always turn on at zero psi initially then turn off at 100psi. But when you are airing up, it uses the air in the system down to 70psi. ie; It turns on at 70psi then off at 100psi when in use.

I did the same update with the parts listed and also wondered about the M12x1.25 thread. The adapter went into the female compressor outlet for about 3 turns and that was about it without applying a lot of torque. However, with tape and pipe dope I got a leak free seal at that depth. Just to check, I took the provided and removed black hose with the male fitting and also the adapter to a local hardware store and tested both against metric M12x1.25 female parts and got a smooth and perfect fit. So I guess, the M12x1.25 adaptor is the right part after all. My setup works great so far.
