Boogie Nights is a fantastic study on the porn industry in the 70s/80s, the 70s/80s in general, people, fame, and relationships. It's a fantastic drama, and the performances (including Reynolds) are great.

I grew up during the 70s, and I always enjoyed watching this. Not just Burt Reynolds, Jackie Gleason, the action, and the comedy, but Jerry Reed and his awesome music. And, of course, who could forget good ol' Fred! Awesome reaction!!
For a long time down South this movie was considered a documentary. My dad put a CB radio in every car we ever had. He would collect them. When he passed we found probably something like two dozen, brand new, unused CB radios carefully tucked away in boxes in his closet. Lol The truck driver is played by Jerry Reed. Comedian Tim Wilson has a funny song called "I Married A Woman Who Talks Like Jerry Reed". When she wants him to take her out she tells him, "Son, you're gonna have to take me out and throw some groceries down my neck."
My Dad was a truck driver and had CBs in every one of his vehicles up to probably at least 2000. In fact, as a little kid, I remember he had a huge CB antenna mounted on our house. And I remember us watching this movie every time it came on television throughout the 70s and most of the 80s.
It wasn't just down south. All of my friends and I had Trans ams and loved movies by Burt and other southern actors during that time. Deliverance became huge in our lexicon whenever we went down the hudson in upstate NY. Same with Gator and Convoy going other places.
I've only seen the a scene or two from the original, when it used to air on T.V....I've sadly seen the remake way more (due to it coming out when I was 16). I'll 100% have to watch it on here. Thanks so much for the comment!
Just seen your channel come across my feed because of this movie! I was living 2 miles from Snowmans house in Jonesboro when this was filmed the summer of '76 & me & my dad got to see a lot of the filming around parts of north Georgia! We moved to Covington the next year where they started filming Dukes of Hazzard & I got to be in the 1st episode in '78 on the square when the General Lee is getting chased around the town square {RU-vid video Dukes Of Hazzard : Chase From 1st Episode} & I was lucky enough to be on the square again in 1981 when Burt landed his plane to get beer in Cannonball Run, I was one of the folks getting out of the way as the plane takes off {RU-vid video Cannonball Plane}! Burt built a mansion right outside of Covington & lived there for a few years in the early/mid '80s! He also filmed Gator 1976 down around Savannah & the Okefenokee Swamp, The Longest Yard 1974 at Reidsville prison near Vidalia {famous onions}, Deliverance around Tallulah Falls 1972 & Sharkey's Machine 1981 in downtown ATL! Jerry Reed {Snowman} sang all the songs & is also a Georgia boy born in ATL! The motorcycle cop that lands in the water is none other than Georgia boy Sonny Shroyer {Valdosta} who played Enos in Dukes of Hazzard ✌💖☮

I love you were in them/ did the same(just some years before)! I actually haven't seen Cannonball Run yet, so I tried to just briefly look over your comment (as to not get "spoilers"), but I saw you were "in the square" when he landed (I tried not to read more after that haha), but that's really cool!! Thats cool you did extra work, I stayed in Norcross a few years {2014-2018} with an old buddy of mine right near Eagle Rock studios as he did a lot of extra work there, I just cant handle the concrete jungle anymore as I am too much of a country boy since I grew up in small town Hazzard County {Covington} & had to get away from all the crazy folks but havent lived in Covington since 1998 because they got flooded with people because so many TV shows & movies were starting to get filmed there, mainly Heat of the Night! I was paid to have my 1978 Ttop Z28 in an episode of Heat in 1992 but watched every episode & never seen it so I guess it was left on the cutting room floor! There was a Cannonball Run II 1984 but was not filmed in Georgia 😄!
And he was Bear Bryant the football coach from Forrest Gump which you just mentioned. If you really want to see a young Sally Field she was only 18 when she starred in her first role in the title role on the TV series Gidget. Then she starred in The Flying Nun. It took her years to overcome those roles.

To expound on that, the US Forest Ranger and State Trooper/Police hat was a U.S. Army calvary hat that was adopted by both bodies. Since Truckers dealt with State Troopers/State Police that wore those hats, its just a meme to call them "Mounties" or "Smokey Bear". Source: I lived at Grand Canyon for a while, and it's kinda of a big deal for a US Forest Ranger to earn their hat.
I saw this in '77 at 6 yro. Burt Reynold's & the Bandit were cultural icons.😅 "Cannonball Run" was great too, with a legendary cast. But then again, most anything with Reynolds in it is a gem. I actually got to see him work when i lived on South Beach, Miami in the 90's filming "The Crew" with Richard Dreyfuss. It was a trip! Also, Snowman, the legendary guitar picker who wrote S&B theme song, Jerry Reed, just happens to be entombed at my family cemetery, Woodlawn in Nashville. ...Oh, there's a good Reed flick co-staring Walter Matheau & Robin Williams called "The Survivors" you may wanna add to your list? Same, I saw it in 77 at the age of six as well. I played Eastbound and Down so much on the record player that I'm sure at some point my parents probably wanted to hide it. Who knows, maybe they did. Don't remember what happened to it.
This is such an iconic movie. I love it when young people watch this. Cops use to where the same hat Smokey the Bear wore, that drill sergeant hat or campaign hat whatever you want to call it. So glad you're back.
Smokeys got their name from Smokey the Bear, our fire prevention mascot from back in the day, and he wore the same type of hat that many troopers wear.

Smokey is a term used by CB radio operators to refer to police, Angel. I grew up in the 70s, and CBers had a language all their own when they were on the air.
Jerry Reed who played Snowman was also a county singer. He did all the songs for this movie. Also Burt Reynolds and Sally Field were dating in real life when this movie was made.
Good film to react to. It's Hal Needham's first film as a director, but he started out as a stuntman (doubled for his friend Burt on previous films) and stunt coordinator. He came up with the story/treatment with Robert Levy and gave it to some screenwriters. It was illegal to transfer Coors across state lines at the time. This is Sally Field's big break as an actress, but she had some TV sitcoms, including Gidget, The Flying Nun and The Girl With Something Extra, before this. Sally later won an Emmy for the TV movie "Sybil" and two Oscars for lead actress for the films "Norma Rae" and "Places In The Heart". This was famed TV comedian Jackie Gleason's ("The Honeymooners") comeback. He based his character on memories of Burt's dad. He should have earned an Oscar nomination for this. "The Dukes Of Hazzard" TV series was inspired by this film. This was on the way to be the highest grossing movie of 1977, but a small movie called "Star Wars" beat it up to the punch. The car company Pontiac sold a LOT of Trans-Ams after this film hit theaters.
There's a ton of young and old Burt to discover! Young - Gator & White Lightning (both referenced in Archer), Malone (similar plot to Roadhouse, but earlier), Sharky's Machine, and Cannonball Run are some of my faves. Older Burt - Burt had a career resurgence after appearing in Boogie Nights and Striptease (where he's hilarious even without his mustache), but is especially funny in The Crew (or what if the Goodfellas retired?)
The only really bad movie that he's in that I recommend people avoid is the Dukes of Hazzard reboot. That movie was a slap in the face of all of the fans and those who worked on the original show.
The South made a big comeback culturally in the late ‘70s, after the “rural purge” of rural/western/Southern TV shows in the early ‘70s (mostly on CBS) and the rise of dark rural-themed movies around that time (“Deliverance” [also starring Burt Reynolds], “Walking Tall,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” and Clint Eastwood’s noirish westerns). Then Robert Altman’s “Nashville” came out in ’75, CB radio culture caught fire, and country music got BIG, from John Denver in the mid-70s to Kenny Rogers circa 1980, leading into the whole “Urban Cowboy” craze briefly in the early ‘80s. The "Dukes of Hazzard" and "Dallas" (ironically on CBS) led the TV renaissance. Rodeos also became more popular, as Glen Campbell celebrated in “Rhinestone Cowboy.” Another film in the “Smokey” vein you might like is “The Electric Horseman” with Robert Redford and Jane Fonda---similar setup: country guy and city slicker who team up against the baddies, with the rodeo world as the backdrop.
This movie started the CB (Citizens Band) radio craze in the late 70's. I had them in 2 cars myself. Even the Manufacturers got into it and you could get one in your New Car from the factory for a few years into the 80's. 10-4 Good Buddy! Now everyone has cell phones but it's not the same.
I've done a bit of research on the subject of the original diablo sandwich... Well, it didn't really exist until Gleason made it up for that scene. Sure, maybe someone, somewhere, at some time, gave a sandwich such a name, but it wasn't well-known or recorded. The restaurant used in the film, Old Hickory House, did end up making such a sandwich after the success of the film. Their version was basically minced pork doused in Texas Pete hotsauce. While I am inclined to accept their recipe as the original, my own diablo sandwich creation would be different. There are many recipes out there. I consider the basic requirements to be: 1) Smoked, loose red meat, such as pork or beef. NO CHICKEN! 2) Chili sauce with or without whole chilis. 3) Served on a toasted bun of substance, not plain sandwich bread. This concludes my sandwich talk. 😁

Smokey and the Bandit (1977) Breaker breaker 1-9. this is Shadowstrike calling Angel Eyes. What's your 20, over? Just a heads up, I picked up a smokey outside of Tallapoosa, and I'm hauling ass East on the 20. Come on back? Don't know if I can make it back in time with all this beer and champagne, but there is one thing I'll make sure to head your way proper, and that's these facts: •Hal Needham was better known in the film industry as a stunt man, and while in Georgia working as Burt Reynolds' stunt double in Gator (1976), the driver captain on the set bought some Coors beer from California, and put a few cases in Needham's hotel room. After he noticed that the maid kept stealing beers from the fridge, he remembered a 1974 TIME magazine article that said Coors couldn't legally be sold outside of 11 western and southwestern U.S. states, because the beer was not pasteurized and needed constant refrigeration. He then realized that "bootlegging Coors would make a good plotline for a movie." When Needham originally wrote the initial screenplay, he hired Jerry Reed to play the Bandit. But studios weren't really interested, and when Needham told Burt Reynolds about the film, Reynolds decided he wanted to do it, and the studio immediately greenlit it with Reed re-cast as the Snowman. Reed eventually took the lead in Smokey and the Bandit 3. •Jerry Reed wrote the big songs that were used in the movie and when he told Needham that he wanted to remix Eastbound and Down, cuz he thought it needed done polishing, but Needham immediately told him to not touch the song because it was perfect as is. There was some attempted studio interference before release because they didn't like the initial score with the banjos and wanted it replaced with a more orchestral soundtrack but Needham fought back and demanded that the original score replaced back into the film, restoring its auditory character. •Fred was specifically chosen because of his lack of direction in obeying commands. So Fred, swimming around and acting like he did throughout the film, was not a stunt. He just did whatever the hell he wanted to, and they worked with it. •Needham originally wanted to use five Trans Ams while making the movie but only ended up with three, which he made count, as by the end of production, none of the cars were in working order with one of the cars being heavily damaged during the jump into the football game, where it lost control and almost hit the extras in the stands. They did have a fourth that didn't even work at all, but they mocked up the body to look as pristine as possible for up close shots. When he came back to do Smokey and the Bandit 2, Needham asked for 10 Trans Ams and 55 Sheriff's vehicles, which the studio gave with zero hesitation. •Majority of the film was shot in Jonesboro, GA. In fact, Snowman's house and the warehouse where they go to pick up the beer (AKA Texarkana) were actually within a half mile of each other. Also, the three Georgia State Troopers that were featured during the final Chase were actual Georgia State Troopers who agreed to be in the film. •This movie is one of a handful of pictures that Burt Reynolds made with his 1970s girlfriend Sally Field. In every movie they made together, Field played Reynolds' girlfriend. Along with this one, they also appeared together in Hooper (1978), Smokey and the Bandit II (1980), and The End (1978). Both Reynolds and Fields said that they were not really given a lot of dialogue and were encouraged to improvise a lot of their scenes, which worked exceptionally well given that the two were already dating and already had great chemistry with each other. •Buford T. Justice was the name of a real Florida Highway Patrolman known to Burt Reynolds' father, who was once Chief of Police of Jupiter, Florida. Originally, it was just going to be Sheriff Justice by himself, but Jackie Gleason insisted that he works better off of a straight man, and Needham made the Junior Justice character. •So similar to how Saturday Night Fever nurtured the Disco craze, Smokey and the Bandit nurtured the CB radio craze, making it more commonplace in the late 70s/ early 80s •Hal Needham was originally given a budget of around $5 million dollars to make this film, which a third of it went towards Reynolds salary and even when the studios attempted to cut the budget midway through filming, his gamble paid off big time as Smokey and the Bandit was the second highest grossing film of 1977 after a little movie called... Star Wars. •In the restaurant, Sheriff Justice orders a "Diablo sandwich, " which is like a "Sloppy Joe" but spicier. There are regional differences, but it is usually made with ground beef, taco spices, hot sauce, canned corn, and diced tomato. In some places jalapeño peppers are added. It is usually served on a hamburger bun. I have made my own version of it, and yes, it's so much better! And I always pair mine with a Dr Pepper. So my question to you is, what would you pair yours with? Well that about does it on this one, Angel Eyes, and even though I'd love to stay see if we get along, it looks like I got me a trail of smokies and I need some go-go juice, so I'm putting the pedal to the metal and I'll see you on the flip side, Darlin' 10-4!

Jackie Gleason was a comedic legend before this movie. It just introduced him to another generation. He and Burt became great friends. This movie came out during the CB craze so most of the nation understood the lingo.

Little Enos is singer/songwriter Paul Williams. Big Enos is comedian Pat McCormick. Cledus is singer/songwriter Jerry Reed. This movie was made entirely in Georgia. You can see a really young Sally Field in the TV series Gidget and the Flying Nun.
In the mid '60s, while in High School. When the new model of cars came out, all the boys would learn how to Identify each one. So, if we saw one, while riding on the bus, we could call it out. When CB's were big, the truckers had their own language/slang. Bert & Sally became huge friend from working on this movie. The Sheriff is the great Jackie Gleason. I recommend that you watch "The Blues Brothers"
The songs in this movie were sung by the man who played Cletus. He is a very famous country singer and played this same character in all three of the bandit movies.
Principal photography of the film began on August 30, 1976.[13] The movie was primarily filmed in Georgia, in the cities of McDonough, Jonesboro, and Lithonia. The scenes set in Texarkana were filmed in Jonesboro and the surrounding area and many of the chase scenes were filmed in the surrounding areas on Highway 54 between Fayetteville and Jonesboro for a majority of the driving scenes, Mundy's Mill Road, Main Street in Jonesboro, Georgia State Route 400, I-85 (Pleasant Hill exit) and in McDonough. However, the scene where they drive through the Shell gas station was filmed in Ojai, California, on the corner of Ojai Avenue and El Paseo Road. Much of the surrounding scene comes from that immediate vicinity. The scene featuring the racetrack was filmed at Lakewood Speedway at the old Lakewood Fairgrounds on Atlanta's south side. The roller coaster in the movie was the Greyhound. It had not been used for some time and was repainted for the film. It was destroyed in Smokey and the Bandit II and in a flashback scene in Part 3.[14] The area around Helen, Georgia, was used for some locations. The scene where Sheriff Justice's car has the door knocked off by a passing semi-truck was shot on Georgia State Route 75, 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Helen. My wife grew up living in the Henry and Clayton County areas, so I have heard ad nauseum about all the places this film was made over the nearly 27 years I have been with her. For instance, the Coors warehouse that is supposed to be in Texarkana was actually a business that her step dad worked at in Jonesboro. The location for the bridge jump is now near a 4 lane highway surrounded by subdivisions that is near the cemetery where the same man is now buried. And finally, the scene where Bandit loses the cop in the town square and breaks the 4th wall looking at the camera was actually filmed in downtown McDonough. Her family moved to where I was living near extended family in south central Kentucky (Somerset, about 80 miles south of Lexington) in the early 90s for a job change for her step dad who passed away in 2005. We still live in that same town even though we are planning on moving back to Georgia or Florida after are nearly adult sons finish high school or maybe after they graduate college and get established in their adult lives.

Highway patrolmen are called Smokeys because their hats, in many states, are the type worn by the cartoon character Smokey the Bear ("Only you can prevent forest fires!"). The style was originally called the "Montana Pinch." They're also worn by forest rangers and by drill sergeants in the Army and in the Marine Corps. Buford T. Justice wears Stetson's Open Road hat. They've been made since the 1920s, and were worn by Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Lyndon B. Johnson.
This was my favorite movie ever since my Grandpa showed it to me when I was 10. Jerry Reed (snowman) wrote and sings all of the songs in this movie. Another fun fact: Little Enos is played by the legendary songwriter singer Paul Williams. He wrote hits like "Rainy days and Mondays" and "We've only just begun" both made popular by the Carpenters. He also wrote the Grammy award winning song "Evergreen" for Barbara Streisand.

Sally Field and Burt Reynolds were together in real life for 7 years. Near the end of his life Reynolds admitted that she was the one that got away. He never stopped loving her.
Those CB radios were fun times, we all had em in our vehicles , back then the speed limit on the hwy was 55! Basically that was nationwide, so cb radios were essential if you wanted to get anywhere quicker especially the truckers and avoid tickets, thanks
Burt Reynolds was basically the Ryan Reynolds of the 70s and 80s. He loved to break the 4th wall and he had the same kind of charming witty personality.
Smokey or smokey bear name for police most references highway patrol and their hats that were shaped like the hat Smokey the Bear mascot wore in the anti-forest fire campaigns. 39:13 is a perfect example of the hat. Diablo sandwitch is a spicy sloppy joe. The part where they drove through the football game was not supposed to happen that way. Reynold was riding with the stunt driver playing Fields for the shot. "The stunt double was supposed to jump a wall with the car, go around the game, and then jump another wall. But that’s not what happened. The stunt driver is just driving and then just panicked,” Reynolds recalled. “I’ve never seen this happen before with stunt people.” Then the car headed straight for the field full of kids instead." Luckily no one was hurt, and when Reynolds went to apologize to parents they were are polite and gracious and the kids were just excited and thought it was fun.
Hi Angel, loved the reaction this was one of my favourite movies as a kid and the beginning of a life long crush on Sally Field. Hooper (1978) is the movie I liked the most that Burt Reynolds is in where he plays a Hollywood stuntman that realises he is coming to the end of his career.
Smokey and the Bandit 2 is worth watching. Part 3 is still fun, but a little different. There were also several "Bandit" made for TV movies in the 90s with someone else playing Bandit. If you skip these you are not missing much. For more essential Burt Reynolds films, I would highly suggest both "Cannonball Run" films, and the films "Deliverance" and "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"
Strangely there is a whole genre of trucker movies, so if you're into big rigs, there's plenty to discover - Convoy is probably the most iconic behind Smokey & The Bandit, and a fine place to start.
If you like movies with Southern sheriffs be sure to watch James Bond: Live And Let Die and The Man With The Golden Gun, the same sheriff appears in both films as comedy relief. He appears in Louisiana in "Live And Let Die" and Thailand (on vacation) in The Man With The Golden Gun. LALD also features Jane Seymour and Yaphet Kotto. TMWTGG features Christopher Lee and Hervé Villechaize (the little person from the classic Fantasy Island TV show.)
GSP still has pretty much the same paint job. I see em all the time down here in mid GA. I had that Trans Am when I was about 19 except mine was blue. Wish I still had it. It’d be a goldmine now.
Jackie Gleason as the Sheriff from Texas Buford T justice mostly known for The Honeymooners the TV series mid 1950s comedy. The Flintstones were stereotyped after The Honeymooners. Iove the bandit's firebird. Apparently there were four modified 1976 Pontiac Trans Ams provided for the movie. Unfortunately by the time filming ended, three had been wrecked and the last could barely run. Random suggestion Short Circuit from 1986 If you haven't seen it. Its a sentimental favorite from my 80's childhood. The physical appearance if Disney's Wall-E was particularly inspired by Short Circuit's main character. Of course also watch WALL-E if you haven't seen it. A completely different suggestion is the fantastic James Cameron movie The Abyss from 1989. However definitely watch the Special Edition/director's cut.
If you like Burt, and you like Cars, You'll LOVE 'The Cannonball Run"... It's got a 70's "Who's Who" in the Cast Line up! I was on a Destroyer in the Navy in the 80's, and after Each Underway Replenishment at Sea, as we pulled away from the Supply Ship, the Captain would play "Eastbound and Down" over the PA and all across the Ship.
Snowman was played by the legendary Jerry Reed. He was a country singer with several number 1 hits. The father and son were played by comedic actor Pat Mccormick and singer/songwriter Paul Williams. Burton Reynolds had a country song on the radio called Let's Do Something Cheap and Superficial referenced in Smokey and the Bandit 2. The sherif is played by Jackie Gleason one of the greatest comics of all time. Us older folks recognize him from The Honeymooners. Google these people. You may find them interesting.
Sally Field got her start in the late 60s in the Gidget (Girl Midget) movies, after which she starred in The Flying Nun TV series. For a while she was typecast as a "sweet" young woman. Sally had to work very hard to break that. She ended up winning an Oscar for Norma Rae. Buford T. Justice is the actual name of a Florida sheriff Reynolds father knew. Jackie Gleason (famous comedian and actor from the 50s/60s) coined the term "sumbitch," which was enthusiastically picked up all across the south after the movie. The movie caused huge run on '77 Firebird Trans Ams. They were virtually impossible to find for a while. Snowman was played by Jerry Reed, a legendary country artist (RIP). He wrote all the songs in the movie.

Great reaction to a great movie. Thank you for sharing. You probably know but maybe not that the Sheriff is played by Jackie Gleason, one of the biggest stars on TV in the black and white era. It's his show that's on TV in Back to the Future. Thanks again this was a fun one. ✌️

Some of these are great and some are ridiculous: Deliverance, Hooper, The Cannonball Run, Sharky's Machine, and Boogie Nights to name a few Burt movies.
This movie is a true classic, it also increased the sales of the Tran Am models in the late 70's, but one thing I have noticed is if you watch close enough, the firs time he runs from a cop on the way to Texas and arrives at the lace to get the beer, one of his headlights is out, it doesn't make any difference to the story, it's jus tone of those things that you can't unsee once you see it, but it's still a great movie
The opening theme song is talking about US 41 going over the Cumberland Plateau "Monteagle" between Chattanooga an Nashville. This was filmed at the time they were building I-24. I-24 is still dangerous, but nothing like US-41 is. Jerry Reed was big in country music an burned a lot of bridges in the industry by making this movie. Going from music to acting is normal now but not then. So it really hurt his music career. This was filmed just before Dukes of hazzard. Bo Duke is in a background scene an Enos was the motorcycle cop. It was all filmed in Georgia, around Atlanta. Around the same time, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia with Dennis Quaid, Kristy McNichol, an an about to be famous Mark Hamill, was being filmed in the Northwest Ga Mountains.
The lingo that they are using is part of the whole CB radio craze that we had in the 70's. A smokey was police or state police, a choke and puke is a restaurant and breaker/breaker was what you said when you wanted to know if anyone was listening on the CB channel. Evil Kenevil is for a motorcycle policeman(named after the famous motorcycle stuntman who was famous in the 70's for jumping the grand canyon and the large fountain at Cesar's Palace in Los Vegas) a rocking chair was when you were hidden in between 3 big rig's.There is a book that has all of the CB lingo in it that you could buy when you bought your CB.
There is a video where Burt Reynolds is getting some kind of lifetime award. Roomful of schmoozing celebs of the time. Burt is standing, of course. Suddenly, Jackie Gleason appears in full on Bufird T Justice costume (except the gun) and persona. Gleason chews the scenery clear across the room, maintaining a Buford monolog every step. Burt and the rest are in hysterics, Gleason never breaks character, and never once looks at Burt, instead maintaining the "searching for the Bandit" act.
My all time favourite movie. Since i saw this movie as a kid i wanted that 6.6litre trans am. We didn’t get many american cars in the uk back then. I loved your reaction to this one. Burt and Sally actually got together in real life for a while. Another movie with Burt and Sally is Hooper, Burt plays a stuntman, please react to Hooper.
