Whenever Smokey was in town he would eat at my Great Grandmothers cafe, she was really fond of him. They sent eachother Christmas cards for years, I still have them.
Gunnery Sgt Hartman I listen to Jay at least once a day...great trip down memory lane, and he is just so genuine and great comments, I ALWAYS have a smile on my face when I check out his reactions
@@sherlockhemlock5655 for real. Too many others are not authentic and miss the genuine essence of a song. He gives the songs his attention and I appreciate revisiting these much loved songs with him.
Smokey wrote this gorgeous song. Definitely one of the greatest songs in music history. Linda Ronstadt did a cover, just as good. Actually Smokey and her did a duet. Big fan of Smokey.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again - sharp-dressed men, tight harmonies, a powerful lead vocal, and of course the choreography! It was a golden age of music.
They have a lot of songs I Second that Emotion! You Really Got a Hold on Me (the Beatles did a great cover of this!). Mickey’s Monkey. Goin to a Go Go. Shop Around
You hit the nail on the head. Tracks of My Tears and Tears of a clown were performed as Smokeys wife left the group and we always heard she left him too.
I'm loving all of these Motown reactions! It's my favorite kind of music. I saw Smokey in concert in August 2018 and got the chance to meet him in December 2019
This song reminds me of my grandson. When he was 8mths old. His mom n daddy has broke up and hadn't seen each other for cple of wks mhe held the baby and when he opened his eyes I saw tears run down his daddies face. So this song so heartfelt brings it back. Smoky has soul in his voice.
Smokey & The Miracles got to #9 in the UK in 1969 with this song but their follow up single "The Tears of A Clown" got to #1 in 1970 both sides of the pond . It was another 11 years before Smokey hit the top spot again with his solo track "Being with You" in 1981. The Miracles hit the #1 spot both sides of the pond in 1976 with "Love Machine". I wore this single out on the decks, The Tracks of My tears at the time was the most requested record for the slow dancing sessions. Great song, love it.
I’m 74 and first heard Smokey I was 12 yrs old. Bee n in love with him all these years. I’ve been to every concert since I was old enough to drive to the venue over 20 times . Never been disappointed. I remember one night in Lake Tahoe, 5 of us bribed the host with a 100 bucks to sit right in front of the stage. Omg he leaned over and kissed my cousin Mary. He was singing being with you in Spanish. Of course he picked the most beautiful Mexican girl.. Mary! I’m so glad she had this memory, she had lupus and passed away a 42
I was blessed to meet my Brother in Christ Smokey Robinson at University of Texas at Austin concert in 1986 backstage . He is a beautiful person , beautiful soul . He will lead worship in Heaven !
Had my 1965 Chevrolet Corvair, 4 speed on the floor with the gear shift knob I made in plastics shop. Almost forgot about the 8 track player in the glove box playing the Miracles or Temptations or the Four Tops. Oh the memories!!!
I was fifteen in 65 when this came out.At that time,Motown dominated top 40 radio. It seemed that a day could not pass without hearing Motown. This song stood out.It was a favorite 45rpm at any basement party. You can't slow dance to the beatles.I love them. But you really want something like this. The music was,and is,universal.I am white. All of us loved this.
• 25 Miles, Stop Her On Sight (Edwin Starr) • Hunter Gets Captured by the Game (The Marvelettes) • Everybody Needs Love (Gladys + Pips) • Beauty’s Only Skin Deep (The Temptations) • I’ll Try Something New (The Miracles) • Tune Up (Jr. Walker) - this is an instrumental • Love Woke Me Up This Morning (Marvin & Tammi) • Fingertips Part 2 (Little Stevie Wonder)
Smokey Robinson seemed to have a talent for creating songs that turned into classics. THIS one certainly did! I like what you said; that we don't always know what's going on inside someone. They may LOOK one way, but actually feeling like crying on the inside. That's SO true. This is one of my favorite by them. WONDERFUL reaction.
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles were another Motown act that churned out hit after hit after hit - and they were all unbelievably good! You might want to check out: "The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage", "You've Really Got a Hold on Me" and "My Girl has Gone". Awesome music!
This song was written by Smokey Robinson, my father Pete Moore-who was one of The Miracles and Marv Tarplin-guitarist for the group. Love, Love, Love this song
I love this wonderful song and Smokeys voice is so beautiful and smooth, another one that I have never wanted to hear a cover of. Your reactions to these classic songs are awesome Jayvee, you go with the music and you understand how hard they worked so they were great in the studio and on stage. I wonder if any of the so called stars of today could do what they did and did with enormous skill. Take care and stay safe please my friends love hugs and peace to you all Mary-Ellen UK
Love this song. Reminds of when my daughter break up. Her partner hadn't see. Their baby son for cple wks when his daddy held him again tears ran down his face as the bay opened his eyes n said '' Daddy. Heart breaking.
Another great song and one of my favs. You might also want to check out Linda Rondstadt's cover. Also great(pretty much anything Linda sings Is fantastic).
Yes you must listen to Johnny Mathis he was a favorite of mine as a youngster, and was thrilled to see him live in Vegas a few years back💕 still had the beautiful smooth voice..
All I can say is...Bring back that Motown Sound...being a kid back in the 60's, I thought it would always be around, never dreamed it would be gone so fast.
just imagine one of those back up vocalists at a bar after the show, sidling up to a likely looking target and whispering, "hey, baby. if you've been waiting for a miracle, here i am."
