When I lived in Georgia I was in a Publix grocery store and the song "the way you do the things you do" was playing. EVERYONE was singing and dancing including the cashier. Motown will NEVER die.

Back in the day, when we knew the Temptations would be on Ed Sullivan, it was an event for me. They always brought it, their choreography was on point. Nothing better than their original lineup. Ruffin and Kendricks were stand outs.

Rodger Penzabene, lyricist of this song and “I Could Never Love Another,” wrote these songs after a breakup. He committed suicide a week after the release of “I Wish It Would Rain” on New Year’s Eve in 1967. He was 23.

To me, the Temptations were one of Motown's best artists. They just kept the hits coming, all of them classics. You might want to check out "Cloud 9", "My Girl," "Ungena Za Ulimwengu (Unite the World)" and "Superstar". Just outstanding music!

That’s David Ruffin in the lead singing. He was great but sadly had a drug problem. He died from a drug overdose and laid in the city morgue for days before he was even identified. Such a sad ending for a brilliant talent!! His brother Jimmy Ruffin had a hit song with “What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted”. 💔🎵

David Ruffin has a legendary Incredible Voice along with the lead singer in The Four tops(I forgot his name) and came out solo with a hit "What Becomes of a Broken Hearted." which I played the 45's single for weeks straight.....I love that song and love everything he sings...so much soul!!!!

The TEMPTING T's as we called them in the east. The choreography, costumes, manners and presentation was all part of the Motown grooming for all their acts. This is what made MT the history of the WORLD!!! The famous Charlie Atkins, was the choreographer for all the Yes, that is David Ruffin as lead on this. Smokey Robinson wrote most of the hits for his leads. He later was fired from the Temptations, when his ego got to big. He went solo and was quite successful. You should react to some of his solo numbers. His brother Jimmy Ruffin was also with Motown, his hit was, "WHAT BECOMES OF THE BROKEN HEARTED", good for a reaction. You should watch one of the many documentaries of the Motown history, legendary MAGIK!!!!

Hands down, my favorite Temptations song. It reminds me of when my cousin came back from Vietnam. This song was playing on the radio at the party we had for him. He was so happy to be home and loving on his family. There are so many emotions tied up in this song and man, David Ruffin leaves it all on the field in this one. What a great Motown hit!

I love the Temps and have their "Emperors Of Soul" box set. For some reason tho, their version of "Get Ready" was left out. Other songs to try out include "Ball Of Confusion", "Papa Was A Rolling Stone", "Just My Imagination", "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", "I Can't Get Next To You", "My Girl", & "The Way You Do The Things You Do".

Yes David Ruffin had a Great voice. But every single man of the four had a voice, in my opinion, as good if not Better, than his. David Ruffin started, or bulled his way, to lead singer three (3) years after the Temptations were already established. He was peeved, eventually, when they Would Not change the groups name to David Ruffin And The Temptations. I cheer and revere them for that decision. Mr. Williams and Mr. Kendricks were the founders of The Temptations. The four Temptations took Turns singing lead. They All had beautiful voices. Wonderful voices. They were so in sync with each other it was like watching Magic. Then David Ruffin came along. The brother of a friend of one of the Temptations. Who thought he was hot .......... Nope, Mr. Not Even Close! If you can, please listen to the songs sung by the Original Temptations. They Were Sensational!!

You know what I have to give an honorable mention to the Late Great Dennis Edwards - with all the comings and goings of David & Eddie he went from a temp to a lead and back to a temp several times. So he definitely took his lumps

Their Choreography was done by Cholly Atkins a former Tapdancing Professional. His former Partner Honi Coles used to manage The Apollo back in the day. This was his crowning achievement but due to his Ego, he got fired in 1968 and came back in 1974 with a Song called "Gonna Walk Away From Love." For the rest of his life, he would battle Drug Addiction and would die of a Drug Overdose. As for their "Moves" these guys would be the prototype for so many Groups that came after them. In the Miniseries about The Jackson Five Their Father Joe Jackson would make them watch them and see how "Professional" they were. Him, Jackie Wilson & James Brown were major influences on Michael Jackson. Michael would later pay for David's Funeral since his family were so destitute they didn't have Burial Insurance. They would later influence The "Original" New Edition. However Motown's Charm School's ripple effect would influence the next Generation. Lou Pearlman copied it with The Backstreet Boys & N'Sync, it was emulated with Popstars all over the world and even K-Pop.

The Temptin' Temptations! All good looking, 6'+ and could sing and dance! ...and Melvin Franklin with that baritone!!! That was my MAIN group growing up. 'LOVED the Four Tops too. You had to be able to sing back in the day! Check out David Ruffin's "I'm Gonna Walk Away from Love"

The lead on this song is David Ruffin. I love David Ruffin's voice, he was my favorite Temptation lead singer and Eddie Kendricks was second. This is probably my favorite Temptations song and I love most of them. I agree with you that they were the best group, not only from Motown, but all around when it came to harmonies and choreography!

I'm a senior from Windsor, the Canadian border city to Detroit and was weaned on Motown music. The sound of the Temptations, Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles etc. filled my household as a teenager and the songs were staples at all the high school dances. Motown ruled in the 1960s and our locsl radio station CKLW introduced many Motown artists and helped raise their profile. Hearing this song brings back fond memories.

There's another song by The Temptations that I highly recommend, it wasn't a big hit, but it was featured on The Temptations compilation albums, and the song is called "Sorry is a Sorry Word".

The Temps were possibly Motowns best known male group along with the Four Tops. They started off around 1960 as The Elgins. There US releases were issued on Motowns Gordy record label and in Europe and Canada on the Tamla Motown label. These were two seperate labels in the states. The band line up changed a number of times. David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks and later Damon Harris left to follow solo careers. In the 1970s the band was given to Norman Whitfield and released some of their best songs from Papa was A Rolling Stone, Masterpiece, and Law of the Land. These tracks were some 12 mins long on their albums and largely instrumental. As none of the group played an instrument it was questionable as to what Whitfield was trying to acheive with them. That aside they were a great band and I was lucy enough to see them live on several occassions. One of my fave songs was Memories from the Song For You Album.

Temptations were my favorite group from elementary through high school. I saw them live once at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood CA, in about 1969 or 1970.
