On this episode I continue with the ongoing restoration of this 1979 Kenworth W900A truck to turn it into a tribute movie truck to the one used in the 1977 classic movie Smokey and the Bandit with Burt Reynolds, Jerry Reed and Jackie Gleason. If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s no excuse “You dumb cowboy, you know trukin’ Coors beer east of Texas is bootleggin”
The cold winter weather is finally starting to break, so I’m back at it again. I continue working on finishing up the driveline and discovered a surprise with the rear yoke. Then I finally start tackling adding new air tanks and replacing the old rotten air-lines and brake relays. As always, I ended up discovering more parts that were needed to finish, but then again, any progress is progress.
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions and support!
Keep in mind, I know a little about a lot but not an expert in anything … just doing the best I can, learning as I go ... I do all my own stunts
Enjoy watching the progress of this Kenworth W900A project, the ongoing Peterbilt 359 restoration and the upcoming #IronDuke Kenworth K100 cabover I’m planning to build up like the one used in the 70’s trucking movie High Ballin’ with Jerry Reed and Peter Fonda.

You should road trip LBL down to Montana and get Ian Odden to paint it! I love the job he did on Welker Farms International.

Air lines/hoses on "big trucks" are the same as brake lines/hoses on a passenger car and imo is just one of those things you are penny wise and pound foolish to cheap out on. I worked on everything from tricycles to bulldozers and everything in between and if I replaced one hydraulic brake line on a car or light truck or an air line on a truck with air brakes because it failed except from physical damage they all got replaced the same rule applied when replacing coolant hoses or fan belts.

Peerless trailers uses a similar aluminium T in some of their plumbing. They rot away. Try to put a gasket, even a layer of duct tape, between the aluminium and steel to make them last longer. Stainless bolts too.

Speaking of project Snowman have seen the trucks that Paul Sagehorn rebuilt the 1974 Kenworth W-925 from Movin on and I believe a 1979 Kenworth K-100 at the Kenworth Ohio plant from BJ and the Bear witch had BJ and the Bear #5 welded on the 5 th wheel plate. I remember watching these tv programs as a kind and on the poster in your garage of the General Lee... I enjoy watching your rebuilds. grate work👍

A tip I learned when taking u-joints out with a press like that is to tap on the yoke around where the stuck u-joint cap is while pressing it out and it helps relive tension in the steel.

Love your videos, have watched them all. Been a long haul trucker for the best part of my adult life. Out of it now though. With these relays you are replacing, that corrosion, as you stated was from moisture. I drained my tanks every day when ever I pulled over for a few hours. Just to get rid of any excess water in the tanks. Regardless of dryers, or not. Might help you. Keep on Truckin friend. Australia.

I'm watching this Series for the THIRD time!! I realize I'm not in the same league as you and many others here..... I'm a retired Auto Mechanic, worked on the "small stuff". But not only do I find your Videos entertaining... but very valuable and fascinating information!! 😎👌 I build 1/14th Scale RC Semis. I'm finishing a 1980 Kenworth W900B, mostly replicating Cletus Snow's Famous Rig from " Smokey and the Bandit". Basically, the Tractor from "Smokey II", in the Dark Brown/Black and Gold theme from " Smokey I". I pride myself on a high level of detail and accuracy in my Models.... YOUR Videos have given me SO much invaluable information, on things that my peers don't bother with, or can't do. Particularly the "intricate mess" of Air Hoses, Servos, Tanks and Brake Hardware. Your Videos are so very helpful, and I'm extremely appreciative!! You'd be amazed at how many period/Brand correct parts are available in small Scale! Even highly detailed Interiors!! 😎🍻🍻 The only thing I can't find so far, are 10 Hole Buds Pilot Aluminum Wheels... THANK YOU for the information and very detailed Video and explanation of what everything is, and what it does!!! My next project will be a Kenny Cabover. Your next Rig will be a huge help there!

glad to hear the garage is getting the green light, i started with a 40 x 60, then added on extra 20 x 60 for a paint booth. Putting together the building can be a whole playlist itself, i have built 3 "red iron" buildings now. helpful hints, rent the equipment to lift beams and get a manlift and call in every friend favor you have to put wall sections up. but you will love it when your done.

Hopefully you are sitting down when you price out the new shop. Lumber and steel prices are stupid right now. The overall price could be nearly double what they were a year ago based on what I’m hearing. Unfortunately not a good year for building projects.

I'd suggest you to go to your blue Peterbilt truck then open the hood, then take a tape measure the distance from the hood to the rear of the truck What you will then realize is that if you new shop is only going to be 40 foot deep you will have very little room in front or in the rear of the truck. I suggest that you go at least 45 feet or better yet 50 feet. I made that very same mistake when I built my shop & years later I even bought a different truck with 10 inches more wheelbase making it tighter yet.

Love watching your videos from Australia where we think of Canada as our nthern cousin. Roughly the same size . English origins (& some french in your case) . Modern democracies. Mineral rich in the north. Except your north is minus 40C and our north can be close to plus 50C. I cannot understand our you can work in even minus 15C. Mind you working in 45C plus is also a tough gig.

I'm eagerly looking forward for the next video and the building of your shop. By the way: Will 40 feet deep be enough?
