I saw a mechanic stick a split ring into the metal ceiling in our shop when it blew. We actually had to use a ladder to get it down. We had a cage in there the next day... LOL This was back in the late 70's

The US Navy fighter jets all have split rims like what you were talking about on all wheels... at least the ones we landed on the carriers... talk about punishment haha... I had the honor of piloting the ship during flight operations for 5-10 hours every day when underway and saw some pretty hard landings (usually by the rookies )🤦‍♂️, luckily none of them ever blew.

Im not familiar with 10x22 but i am experienced with 10x20 tubes. No major truck stop carries them. Pomps tire in Indianapolis has them for container chassis. I'd go with 5 hole Alcoa's for 11R22.5. Tubeless tires were just starting to be around in the early 70s.

Try Coker Tire. They sell all sorts of vintage tires and maybe they have or know who can get them if they dont.

Try calling the big wrecker service in Sealy, TX. He might have a tire lead for ya. He's got a shop full of really old flawless big rigs.

Back in the 70 - 80 KW stamped the serial number on the passenger side top flange, very rare to find a truck with bumper that matches truck serial number.

Using the correct terminology clarifies the wheel difference, lock 'ring' wheel is good & split 'rim' wheel is not.

great split ring tutorial. Probably why old truckers could change their own tires on the side of the road as opposed to now, where the whole wheel and tire need to be separated by tire guys

From a 2009 post on American Truck Historical Society (yes I know it doesn't help): STOP! I'm not sure that everyone is on the same page here. Goodyear does not make a 10x22 anymore. No US manufacturer does. They do make 10x20's but those do not fit on a 10x22 wheel. The only 10x22's available are the CEAT tire and maybe one other Chinese or Indian manufacturer. These tires are Bias Ply, not Radials. You can't get a NEW 10x22 Radial in the US. This is coming from multiple high volume well-respected commercial tire dealers and the Goodyear factory rep. I suppose that there is a chance that someone somewhere had a few NOS 10x22 Goodyear radials. We searched for over a year nationwide, though, and were given this same story by everyone, including the Goodyear rep. These CEAT 10x22 Bias Ply tires are absolutely as old-school as you can go. Just like 40 years ago, they are out-of-round, grossly out of balance from the factory and will absolutely beat you and your truck to death. They warp and develop flat spots in about 3 or 4 hours of sitting. At temperatures below 55 degrees, they will be so unflexible that it will take miles and miles of running before the sidewalls flex enough to remove the flat spots. The tires are absolutely unsafe and will rapidly shake your truck to pieces. I ordered and bought 4 of these CEAT tires exactly one year ago and it was the single biggest waste of money in my life, save the money I spent sending my first wife through charm school. The tires were over 24 ounces (pound and a half) out of balance fresh out of the mold. Even after balancing, they were so bad that they shook the truck out of the lane and even started tearing apart the fiberglass hood and hinges. Your kingpin and spring bushings will get beaten up faster than a guy wearing a Mack shirt in Spud Flats. Do yourself a HUGE favor and switch to 11R24.5's if you still want the tall rubber. I'm an absolute fan of original items, but this is one area where holding fast will do lasting damage. The only way I would use the 10x22's would be for a VERY low speed off-highway collector piece or something that will be on static display.

Yeah, I had two experiences with split rings and I won't work on them. I mount and dismount all my stuff.

Consider contacting KalTire and have them recap the rear tires with the Bandag tread, it's period correct and the Bandag actually last a long time and is quite durable. If you reach out to Bridgestone directly they may be able to get you squared up for period correct steering axle tires. Mismatching profiles (heights) is a no no as per the tire industry recommendations for tire safety. Mismatching can cause excessive internal tire wall heating leading to early tire failure (roadside crocodiles) tread and casing separation. Split rims (military rims developed by the British military during the second world war to allow for easier field changing) have a collapsing center rim portion, they are outlawed across Canada. She sure is coming along nicely, fans are a real help when your in a pinch.. Stay Safe & Cheers!

Specialty Tires of America will still build a 10.00x22 tire, but they're spendy and custom order. I ordered a set last year for a 69 A model. Get ready tho, they don't supply the lube when invoice you.

Military tires are 20x11, make custom tires? I found companies that do that. Also I found one thing amazon does not have 10x22 tires LOL

I have found a company from PA called Specialty tires of America who list a 10.00 22 "super transport" on their site as well as Coker tire and summit racing all list the same tire but nobody shows if they are in stock

Let me give you a word to the wise brother if you put those tires side-by-side the shorter one will get ate up in a matter of a couple of hundred miles ask me how I know

I already knew Indian summer but Canadian summer was kind of new to me. Heavy snowfall on May 19th feels/looks pretty weird. Especially because snow on trees with leaves is extremely rare (at least in Germany). The leaves modify themselves to a spoon shape so that they are able to carry the extra/heavy load. Great video Mark, I remember the widowmaker rims, when I first started trucking there were lots of them still on the road. I worked for a company in Swan hills in 1977 and when he bought a truck at an auction or anywhere if it had widowmaker rims on it they would get pulled off and new rims put on and the old rims were either taken over to the shop next door and run over with a D7 or holes were cut in them and made into fire pits but the did'nt live after Ken owned them. Love the new hood pull looks great see you on the next one.

Did you call Coker Tire? May have to call them direct, they had for my old 46 and my friends fire trucks... don't know about 10.00-22 but hopefully. My local guy can't get new but had 2 used ones on the shelf.

Sounds odd maybe worth looking in India as alot of there Tatra trucks still use split rim hubs and maybe have them tyre sizes more on hand

Maybe the real snow man truck had 10.00x20s which the 22.5 was a direct replacement for and a more common rim and tire. 10.00x22 was replaced by the 24.5.

Looks like you need to paint or powder coat the mounting bolts for that beautiful Kenworth logo to match the movie truck.

Thanks for bringing up those per-lux lights. I have a lifted truck and was looking for fog lights that could be put in the front bupper that can be aimed down, those would fit the bill. Some kc light covers would be good to keep on them when parked so rocks dont find there way into those lenses.
