Smokey the Bear Dies - Decades TV Network 

When I was a little girl I met Smokey bear in school.i though he was wounderful.and we learned about him and about forest fires and he gave all of us kids two books which I still have one of them ,the book about the true story of Smokey bear I have no ideal what had happen to it .I do know I would had never got rid of it.what I had learned from Smokey as a kid I always remembered and had cherished and still loved that big bear today.its sad to hear the original Smokey is gone,he had to go through so much agony and pain when he was found on that burnt tree injured. I'm glad he was rescued and saved and had a chance at a long life after what he had went through as a bear cub.today is supposed to be his 75th birthday,happy birthday Smokey we all love you!

Definitely something that will never go out of style. I'm from New Mexico so he was a big part of history class. So sad though because of the devastating record breaking amount of acres burned in 2020 here in Oregon. Over a million acres...all because people can't be mindful and responsible. One of the fires that consumed 12 acres of Oregon City was started in an abandoned building. Be safe everyone, "Only you can prevent wildfires."

His living conditions at the zoo were cruel. Cement and bars. What horrible people did this to him? He should have been set free in another forest. Awful he had to live like a prisoner instead of in freedom.

My kids and I visited his grave today at the museum in Capitan, New Mexico. I was only four years old when he died, but I remember his death being discussed.

I was a small boy in 1976 and I remember that I cried. When when Smokey died.

I cried when I read the true story of Smokey the Bear. But he is living proof of triumph over tragedy, and a message to all. Rip smokey. And did anyone notice on the television show emergency! That one of the firefighters had a poster of smokey in his locker? I think it was John Gage.

When my sister and I were kids my mother used to take us to the zoo in D.C. Back then the rules were different. Smokey was in an enclosure that was a concrete pad with metal bars. You could actually get this bear to play rolly polly a hand gesture game. When he would do this we would feed him marshmallows. This was something you could do in the early 70s along with feeding other animals at the zoo.

I did not even know smokey the bear is a real life bear !! Wow. His story of survival is nothing short of amazing.
